Windshield washers (front)
In the O (Off) position, pull the lever
gently toward you to spray washer flu‐ id on the windshield and to run the wip‐
ers 1-3 cycles.
Use this function when the windshield
is dirty.
The spray and wiper operation will con‐ tinue until you release the lever.
If the washer does not work, check the
washer fluid level. If the fluid level is
not sufficient, you will need to add ap‐ propriate non-abrasive windshield
washer fluid to the washer reservoir.
The reservoir filler neck is located in
the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side.
CAUTION
To prevent possible damage to thewasher pump, do not operate thewasher when the fluid reservoir isempty.
WARNING
Do not use the washer in freezingtemperatures without first warmingthe windshield with the defrosters;the washer solution could freeze onthe windshield and obscure your vi‐sion.
CAUTION
•To prevent possible damage to thewipers or windshield, do not oper‐ate the wipers when the wind‐shield is dry.
•To prevent damage to the wiperblades, do not use gasoline, kero‐sene, paint thinner, or other sol‐vents on or near them.

Engine exhaust fumes can be extremely dangerous. If, at any time, you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open thewindows immediately.•Do not inhale exhaust fumes.Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyx‐iation.
•Be sure the exhaust system does not leak.The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose. If youhear a change in the sound of the exhaust or if you drive over something that strikes the underneath side of the vehicle,have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
•Do not run the engine in an enclosed area.Letting the engine idle in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a hazardous practice. Never run the engine inyour garage any longer than it takes to start the engine and back the vehicle out.
•Avoid idling the engine for prolonged periods with people inside the vehicle.If it is necessary to idle the engine for a prolonged period with people inside the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an openarea with the air intake set at "Fresh" and fan operating at one of the higher speeds so fresh air is drawn into the interi‐or.
If you must drive with the tailgate/trunk open because you are carrying objects that make this necessary:1.Close all windows.
2.Open side vents.
3.Set the air intake control at "Fresh", the air flow control at "Floor" or "Face" and the fan at one of the higher speeds.
To assure proper operation of the ventilation system, be sure the ventilation air intakes located just in front of the wind‐shield are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves or other obstructions.

BEFORE DRIVING
Before entering vehicle
• Be sure that all windows, outsidemirror(s), and outside lights are clean.
• Check the condition of the tires.
• Check under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
• Be sure there are no obstacles behind you if you intend to back up.
Necessary inspections
Fluid levels, such as engine oil, engine
coolant, brake fluid, and washer fluid should be checked on a regular basis,
with the exact interval depending on
the fluid. Further details are provided in L

NOTICE
If difficulty is experienced turning
the ignition switch to the ACC posi‐
tion, turn the key while turning the
steering wheel right and left to re‐
lease the tension.
ON
The warning lights can be checked be‐
fore the engine is started. This is the normal running position after the en‐
gine is started.
Do not leave the ignition switch ON if
the engine is not running to prevent battery discharge.
START
Turn the ignition switch to the START
position to start the engine. The engine will crank until you release the key;
then it returns to the ON position. The
brake warning light can be checked in this position.
WARNING

•Never turn the ignition switch toLOCK or ACC while the vehicle ismoving. This would result in loss ofdirectional control and brakingfunction, which could cause an ac‐cident.

ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON (IF EQUIPPED)
Illuminated ENGINE START/STOP
button
Whenever the front door is opened, the
ENGINE START/STOP button will illumi‐ nate for your convenience. The light will
go off after about 30 seconds when the
door is closed. It will also go off imme‐
diately when the theft-alarm system is
armed.

With manual transaxle
To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or ve‐
hicle power (ON position), stop the vehicle then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
With automatic transaxle
To turn off the engine (START/RUN po‐
sition) or vehicle power (ON position),
press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in the P (Park) posi‐
tion. When you press the ENGINE
START/STOP button without the shift lever in the P (Park) position, the EN‐
GINE START/STOP button will not
change to the OFF position but to the ACC position.
Also, the steering wheel locks when the
ENGINE START/STOP button is in the
OFF position to protect you against theft. It locks when the door is opened.
Not illuminated
Vehicles equipped with anti-theftsteering column lock
The steering wheel locks when the en‐ gine start/stop button is in the OFF po‐
sition to protect you against theft. It
locks when the door is opened.
If the steering wheel is not locked prop‐ erly when you open the driver's door,
the warning chime will sound. If the
problem is not solved, have the system checked by a professional workshop.
Kia recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.
In addition, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position after the
driver's door is opened, the steering
wheel will not lock and the warning chime will sound. In such a situation,
close the door. Then the steering wheel
will lock and the warning chime will stop.
NOTICE
If the steering wheel doesn't unlock
properly, the ENGINE START/STOP
button will not work. Press the EN‐

your safety, start the engine with the

Starting and stopping the engine forturbocharger intercooler
1. Do not race or accelerate the en‐ gine immediately after starting.
If the engine is cold, idle for several
seconds before sufficient lubrica‐
tion is ensured in the turbocharger
unit.
2. After high speed or extended driv‐ ing, requiring a heavy engine load,
idle the engine about 1 minute be‐
fore turning it off.
This idle time will allow the turbo‐
charger to cool prior to shutting off
the engine.
CAUTION
Do not turn off the engine immedi‐ately after it has been subjected to aheavy load. Doing so may cause se‐vere damage to the engine or turbo‐charger unit.
• Even if the smart key is in the vehicle, if it is far away from you, the engine
may not start. • When the ENGINE START/STOP but‐
ton is in the ACC position or above, ifany door is opened, the system
checks for the smart key. If the
smart key is not in the vehicle, the

The engine will also restart

-The fan speed of manual climate con‐
trol system is set above the 3rd posi‐
tion when the air conditioning is on.
- The fan speed of automatic climate
control system is set above the 6th

passed with the climate control sys‐
tem on.
- When the defroster is on.
- The brake vacuum pressure is low.
- The battery charging status is low.
- The vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h.
The green AUTO STOP indicator (

seconds.
Condition of ISG system
operation
The ISG system will operate under
the following condition:
- The driver’s seat belt is fastened. -
The driver’s door and hood are closed.
- The brake vacuum pressure is ade‐
quate.
- The battery is sufficiently charged.
- The outside temperature is more
than -2°C (28.4°F).
- The outside temperature is under
32°C (89.6°F).
- The engine coolant temperature is
not too low.
NOTICE
•If the ISG system does not meet
that operation condition, the ISG
system is deactivated. The light on
the ISG OFF button will illuminate.
•If the light comes on continuously,
please check the operation condi‐
tion.
ISG system deactivation
• If you want to deactivate the ISG system, press the ISG OFF button.
The light on the ISG OFF button will il‐ luminate.

Transaxle ranges
The indicator in the instrument cluster
displays the shift lever position when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
P (Park)
Always come to a complete stop before
shifting into P (Park). This position
locks the transaxle and prevents the drive wheels from rotating.
WARNING
•Shifting into P (Park) while the ve‐hicle is in motion will cause thedrive wheels to lock which willcause you to lose control of thevehicle.
•Do not use the P (Park) position inplace of the parking brake. Alwaysmake sure the shift lever is latch‐ed in the P (Park) position and setthe parking brake fully.
•Never leave a child unattended in avehicle.
CAUTION
The transaxle may be damaged ifyou shift into P (Park) while the ve‐hicle is in motion.
R (Reverse)
Use this position to drive the vehicle
backward.

BRAKE SYSTEM
Power brakes
Your vehicle has power-assisted brakesthat adjust automatically through nor‐
mal usage.
In the event that the power-assisted
brakes lose power because of a stalled engine or some other reason, you can
still stop your vehicle by applying
greater force to the brake pedal than you normally would. The stopping dis‐
tance, however, will be longer.
When the engine is not running, the re‐
serve brake power is partially depleted each time the brake pedal is applied. Do
not pump the brake pedal when the
power assist has been interrupted.
Pump the brake pedal only when nec‐ essary to maintain steering control on
slippery surfaces.

•Do not drive with your foot restingon the brake pedal. This will createabnormal high brake tempera‐tures, excessive brake lining andpad wear, and increased stoppingdistances.
•When descending a long or steephill, shift to a lower gear and avoidcontinuous application of thebrakes. Continuous brake applica‐tion will cause the brakes to over‐heat and could result in a tempo‐rary loss of braking performance.
•Wet brakes may impair the vehi‐cle’s ability to safely slow down;the vehicle may also pull to oneside when the brakes are applied.Applying the brakes lightly will in‐dicate whether they have been af‐fected in this way. Always testyour brakes in this fashion afterdriving through deep water. To drythe brakes, apply them lightlywhile maintaining a safe forwardspeed until brake performance re‐turns to normal.

•Always, confirm the position ofthe brake and accelerator pedalbefore driving. If you don't checkthe position of the accelerator andbrake pedal before driving, youmay depress the accelerator in‐stead of the brake pedal. It maycause a serious accident.
In the event of brake failure
If service brakes fail to operate while
the vehicle is in motion, you can make an emergency stop with the parking
brake. The stopping distance, however,
will be much greater than normal.
WARNING
nParking brake
Applying the parking brake while thevehicle is moving at normal speedscan cause a sudden loss of control ofthe vehicle. If you must use theparking brake to stop the vehicle,use great caution in applying thebrake.
