108KNOWING YOUR CAR
Under no circumstances should aftermarket
operations be carried out involving steering
system or steering column modifications (e.g.
installation of anti-theft device). This could nega-
tively affect performance and safety, invalidate the
warranty, cause serious safety problems and also
result in vehicle non-compliance with type-ap-
proval requirements.
Before servicing the car, switch off the engine
and remove the key from the ignition device
to activate the steering lock. This is especially
important when the car wheels are not touching the
ground. If this is not possible (i.e. if the key must be
kept in the MAR position or the engine must be kept
running), remove the main electric power steering
system fuse.On some versions, with the CITY function ac-
tivated, the SPORT function is not available.
To activate the SPORT function, deactivate the
CITY function and vice versa, because they are rec-
iprocally incompatible.
IMPORTANT The function i s activated about 5 s econds
after the S PORT button is pressed.
IMPORTANT The s teering may become stiffer during
parking manoeuvres including a great deal of s teering.
This is normal and caus ed by the system preventing the
electric control motor overheating. No repair s are needed.
The power s teering system will s tart working normall y
again the next time the car i s u sed.

ADVANCED ESP SYSTEM
(ELECTRONIC STABILITY
PROGRAM)
This is an electronic system controlling car s tability in the
event of ty re grip loss, helping to maintain directional con-
trol.
The Advanced E SP system is therefore particularly use-
ful when road surface grip condition s change.
With the Advanced E SP system as well as the ASR (trac-
tion control with intervention on the brake s and the en-
gine) plus the HILL HOLDER (device for hill starts with-
out us ing the brakes ) and also MSR (adjus tment of engine
braking force with gear down shift), HBA (automatic in-
creas e in braking pressure during emergency braking),
ABS (preventing the wheel s from locking and slipping on
all road s urfaces during s harp braking and D ST (appli-
cation of force on the steering wheel for steering correc-
tion) functions are all available. S
Y STEM INTERVENTION
This is s ignalled b y the blinking of the á warning light on
the ins trument panel, to inform the driver that the car i s
in critical s tability and grip condition s.
S witching the system on
The Advanced ES P system comes on automaticall y when
the vehicle is started and cannot be turned off.
Fault indications
In the event of a failur

e, the Advanced ES P system will be
automaticall y s witched off and á warning light will ap-
pear cons tantly in the ins trument panel along with a me s-
s age on the reconfigurable multifunction di splay . The LED
on the AS R OFF button will als o light up (see “Instrument
panel warning light s” chapter). In thi s cas e, go to a Lan-
cia Dealers hip.
The performance of the Advanced ESP sys-
tem should not encourage the driver to take
unnecessary risks. Driving style must always
be adapted to road conditions, visibility and traf-
fic. The driver is ultimately responsible for road
safety.

TTCSYSTEM (Electronic self-lockin g differential)
THIS IS a system, which i s an integral part of the AS R,
that intervenes on entering bends giving drive torque to
the outer wheel and braking the inner wheel.
In this way the effect of a self-locking differential is s im-
ulated, increasing the sportine ss of the car and improv-
ing cornering. ABS

This system, which is an integral part of the braking sys-
tem, prevents one or more wheel s from locking and slip-
ping in all road surface conditions , irrespective of the in-
tens ity of the braking action, en suring that the vehicle can
be controlled even during emergenc y braking.
The EBD system (Electronic Braking Force Di stribution)
completes the system allowing the brake force to be di s-
tributed between the front and rear wheel s.
IMPORTANT To get the maximum efficienc y of the brak-
ing system, a bedding-in period of about 500 km i s need-
ed: during thi s period it is better to avoid sharp, r
epeat-
ed and prolonged braking.

EBD failure
This is s ignalled by the >andxwarning light s on the
ins trument panel coming on, together with a me ssage on
the reconfigurable multifunction di splay . In this case, the
rear wheels may s uddenly lock and the vehicle ma y s werve
when braking s harply.
Therefore, drive very cautiously to the neares t Lancia
Dealers hip to have the system checked.
If only xwarning light on the instrument
panel comes on, with a message in the re-
configurable multifunction display, stop the
car immediately and contact the nearest Lancia
Dealership. Leakage of hydraulic fluid from the
braking system will compromise the operation of
the braking system, whether it is of the convention-
al type or with ABS.
FAULT INDIC AT I O NS
ABS failure
This is s ignalled by the >warning light in the in strument
panel coming on together with a message in the recon-
figurable multifunction di splay . In this case, the braking
system will still be effective, although without the extra
capacity offered by the ABS. Drive carefully to the near-
e st Lancia Dealer ship to have the system checked.

IMPORTANT The steering may become slightly stiff fol-
lowing parking manoeuvres involving a lot of steering.
This is normal and is caused by a system to prevent the
motor from overheating. No servicing is required. The
power steering system will s tart working normall y again
the next time the car is used.TPMS SYSTEM
(Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)
(for vers ions/markets , where provided)
The car may be equipped with a TPMS (Tyre Pre ssure
Monitoring System). This system compris es a radio fre-
quency transmitter fitted to each wheel (on the wheel rim
ins ide the ty re), which i s able to send information on the
t y re inflation pressure of each wheel to the control unit.
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THE TPMS
The fault indication s are not s tored and will therefore
not be dis played after the engine ha s been s witched off
and then on again. If the fault condition s pers is t, the con-
trol unit will s end the relative indication s to the ins tru-
ment panel only after the car ha s been in motion for a
s hort time.
Before starting any servicing operation, stop
the engine and remove the key from the ig-
nition switch to operate the steering lock, par-
ticularly when the wheels do not touch the ground.
If this is not possible (i.e. if the key must be kept
in the MAR position or the engine must be kept run-
ning), remove the main electric power steering sys-
tem fuse.

FUEL FILLER CAP fig. 86
To refuel, press flap A to relea se it and acce ss the fuel tank
cap. The flap i s locked with the central locking on.
Undo cap B which has a device C retaining it to the flap so
it cannot be los t. The sealing may cause a slight pressure
increas e in the tank. A little breathing off, while slackening
the cap i s abs olutely normal.
When refuelling, attach the cap to the device in side the flap
a s s hown in the figure.
fig. 86L0E0060m
For diesel engines, only use diesel fuel for
motor vehicles in accordance with EN590 Eu-
ropean specifications. The use of other prod-
ucts or mixtures may damage the engine beyond re-
pair and consequently invalidate the warranty, due
to the damage caused. If you accidentally refuel with
another type of fuel, do not start the engine, and
drain the tank. If the engine has run, even for a very
short time, you will need to have the entire fuel sup-
ply system emptied in addition to the tank.
FILLING THE TANK
To fill the tank completel y, top-up twice after the fir st click
of the fuel s upply gun. Further top-up s could caus e fail-
ures in the fuel s upply system.
Do not bring naked flames or lit cigarettes
near the fuel tank filler: fire risk. Keep your
face away from the fuel filler to prevent
breathing in harmful vapours.

SEAT BELTS
USING THE SEAT BELTS fig. 1
The seat belt should be worn keeping the torso straight
and rested against the backrest.
To fasten the seat belts, hold the tongue A and insert it in-
to the buckle B, until it clicks into place. If the seat belt
jams during removal, let it rewind for a short stretch, then
pull it out again without jerking. The retractor may lock when the car is parked on a steep
slope: this is normal. Furthermore, the retractor mecha-
nism locks the belt if it is pulled sharply or in the event
of sudden braking, collisions and high-speed bends. The
rear seat is fitted with inertia seat belts with three anchor
points and a retractor.
The rear seat belts must be used as shown in the diagram
in fig. 2.
Never press button C when travelling.
Remember that, in the event of a violent col-
lision, back-seat passengers not wearing seat
belts represent a serious danger to the front-
seat passengers as well as to themselves.
fig. 1L0E0061m
To unfasten the seat belts, press button C. Guide the seat
belt with your hand while it is rewinding, to prevent it
from twisting. Through the retractor, the seat belt auto-
matically adapts to the body of the occupant wearing it,
allowing freedom of movement.

IMPORTANT After putting the seats back to their trav-
elling position, restore the seat belt position to make them
ready for use.
IMPORTANT If the rear seat is being moved and this caus-
es the middle seat belt to lock temporarily, normal con-
ditions can be restored simply by moving the seat towards
the back of the car.
fig. 2L0E0062m
SBR SYSTEM
The car is provided with the SBR (Seat Belt Reminder)
system, which warns the driver and the front passenger
if the seat belt is not fastened, as follows:
❍warning light
<turns on constantly and continuous
activation of the acoustic signal for the first 6 seconds;
❍ warning light
<flashes and the acoustic signal sounds
intermittently for the next 96 seconds.
For long-term deactivation of the SBR system, contact a
Lancia Dealership.
The SBR system can be reactivated at any time through
the display Setup Menu (see chapter “1”).

184STARTING AND DRIVING
STARTING THE ENGINE
The car is fitted with an electronic engine lock device: if
the engine fails to start, see the “Lancia CODE system”
paragraph in chapter 1.
In the first period of use, we recommend
avoiding excessive stress for the car (for in-
stance excessive accelerations, extended trav-
el at maximum speed, sudden braking etc.).
With engine off, do not leave the key in the ig-
nition switch on MAR to prevent draining the
battery.
It is dangerous to let the engine run in en-
closed spaces. The engine takes in oxygen and
releases carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide
and other toxic gases.
Remember that the brake servo and electri-
cal power steering system are not operational
until the engine is started, therefore a greater
effort will be required to press the brake pedal or
turn the steering wheel.

HANDBRAKE
The handbrake lever is located between the front seats.
Pull the lever upwards to operate the handbrake, until the
car is braked.
The car should be braked after a few clicks
of the lever; if it is not, contact a Lancia Deal-
ership to have it adjusted.
When the handbrake is on and the ignition key is at MAR,
the instrument panel xwarning light will come on.
Proceed as follows to release the handbrake:
❍ slightly lift the lever and press release button A - fig. 1;
❍ keep button A pressed and lower the lever. The x
warning light on the instrument panel turns off.
Press the brake pedal when carrying out this operation
to prevent the car from moving accidentally.
PARKING
Proceed as follows:
❍ stop the engine and engage the handbrake;
❍ engage a gear (on a slope, engage first gear if the car
is facing uphill or reverse if it is facing downhill) and
leave the wheels steered.
Block the wheels with a wedge or a stone if the car is
parked on a steep slope.
Do not leave the ignition key on MAR to avoid draining
the battery. Always remove the key when you leave the
car.
Never leave children unattended in the car. Always remove
the ignition key when leaving the car and take it out with
you.
