The Advanced Front Air Bag system
has multistage driver and front pas-
senger air bags. This system provides
output appropriate to several factors,
including the severity and type of col-
lision as determined by the Occupant
Restraint Controller (ORC), which
may receive information from the
front impact sensors.
The first stage inflator is triggered
immediately during an impact that
requires air bag deployment. This low
output is used in less severe collisions.
A higher energy output is used for
more severe collisions.
WARNING!
No objects should be placed over or
near the air bag on the instrument
panel, because any such objects
could cause harm if the vehicle is in
a collision severe enough to cause
the air bag to inflate.

Do not put anything on or around
the air bag covers or attempt to
open them manually. You may
damage the air bags and you could
be injured because the air bags
may no longer be functional. The
protective covers for the air bag
cushions are designed to open only
when the air bags are inflating. Do not drill, cut or tamper with the knee bolster in any way.
Do not mount any accessories to
the knee bolster such as alarm
lights, stereos, citizen band radios,
etc.

Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air
Bags (SAB) may provide enhanced
protection to help protect an occupant
during a side impact. The SAB is
marked with an air bag label sewn
into the outboard side of the front
seats.

Air Bag Deployment Sensors
And ControlsOccupant Restraint Controller
(ORC)TheORC is part of a regulated safety
system required for this vehicle.
The ORC determines if deployment of
the front and/or side air bags in a
frontal or side collision is required.
Based on the impact sensor's signals,
a central electronic ORC deploys the
Advanced Front Air Bags, Supple-
mental Seat-Mounted Side Air Bags
(SAB), and front seat belt pretension-
ers, as required, depending on several
factors, including the severity and
type of impact.
Advanced Front Air Bags are designed
to provide additional protection by
supplementing the seat belts in cer-
tain frontal collisions depending on
several factors, including the severity
and type of collision. Advanced Front
Air Bags are not expected to reduce
the risk of injury in rear, side, or roll-
over collisions.
The Advanced Front Air Bags will not
deploy in all frontal collisions, includ-
ing some that may produce substantial
vehicle damage — for example, some
pole collisions, truck underrides, and
angle offset collisions. On the other
hand, depending on the type and loca-
tion of impact, Advanced Front Air
Bags may deploy in crashes with little
vehicle front-end damage but that
produce a severe initial deceleration.The side air bags will not deploy in all
side collisions. Side air bag deploy-
ment will depend on the severity and
type of collision.
Because air bag sensors measure ve-
hicle deceleration over time, vehicle
speed and damage by themselves are
not good indicators of whether or not
an air bag should have deployed.
Seat belts are necessary for your pro-
tection in all collisions, and also are
needed to help keep you in position,
away from an inflating air bag.
The ORC monitors the readiness of
the electronic parts of the air bag sys-
tem whenever the ignition switch is in
the START or ON/RUN position. If the key is in the OFF position, in the
ACC position, or not in the ignition,
the air bag system is not on and the air
bags will not inflate.
The ORC contains a backup power
supply system that may deploy the air
bags even if the battery loses power or
it becomes disconnected prior to
deployment.
Also, the ORC turns on the
Air Bag Warning Light in
the instrument panel for
approximately four to eight
seconds for a self-check when the ig-
nition is first turned on. After the self-
check, the Air Bag Warning Light will
turn off. If the ORC detects a mal-
function in any part of the system, it
turns on the Air Bag Warning Light,
either momentarily or continuously. A
single chime will sound if the light
comes on again after initial startup.
It also includes diagnostics that will
illuminate the instrument cluster Air
Bag Warning Light if a malfunction is
noted that could affect the air bag
system. The diagnostics also record
the nature of the malfunction.

WARNING!
Ignoring the Air Bag Warning Light
in your instrument panel could
mean you won't have the air bags to
protect you in a collision. If the light
does not come on as a bulb check
when the ignition is first turned on,
stays on after you start the vehicle,
or if it comes on as you drive, have
an authorized dealer service the air
bag system immediately.
Driver And Passenger Advanced
Front Air Bag Inflator Units
The Driver and Passenger Advanced
Front Air Bag Inflator Units are lo-
cated in the center of the steering
wheel and on the right side of the
instrument panel. When the ORC de-
tects a collision requiring the Ad-
vanced Front Air Bags, it signals the
inflator units. A large quantity of non-
toxic gas is generated to inflate the
Advanced Front Air Bags. Different
air bag inflation rates are possible,
based on several factors, including the collision type and severity. The steer-
ing wheel hub trim cover and the up-
per right side of the instrument panel
separate and fold out of the way as the
air bags inflate to their full size. The
air bags fully inflate in about 50 to
70 milliseconds. This is about half of
the time it takes to blink your eyes.
The air bags then quickly deflate
while helping to restrain the driver
and front passenger.
The Advanced Front Air Bag gas is
vented through the vent holes in the
sides of the air bag. In this way, the air
bags do not interfere with your con-
trol of the vehicle.
Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side
Air Bag (SAB) Inflator Units
The Supplemental Seat-Mounted
Side Air Bags (SAB) are designed to
activate only in certain side collisions.
The ORC determines if a side collision
requires the side air bags to inflate,
based on the severity and type of col-
lision.Based on the severity and type of col-
lision, the side air bag inflator on the
crash side of the vehicle may be trig-
gered, releasing a quantity of non-
toxic gas. The inflating SAB exits
through the seat seam into the space
between the occupant and the door.
The SAB fully inflate in about 10 mil-
liseconds. The side air bag moves at a
very high speed and with such a high
force that it could injure you if you are
not seated properly, or if items are
positioned in the area where the side
air bag inflates. This especially ap-
plies to children.
Front And Side Impact Sensors
In front and side impacts, impact sen-
sors can aid the ORC in determining
appropriate response to impact
events.

EMERGENCY BYPASS MODE
(TO RAISE THE TOP ONLY)This procedure is only to be used to
raise the top when the top cannot be
returned to the UP (raised) position by
pressing the POWER TOP switch or is
in a position in which the vehicle can-
not be driven. Please follow these
emergency bypass instructions to re-
turn the top to the UP (raised) posi-
tion.Press the POWER TOP switch in the
Top Up direction five times within two
seconds and hold the switch in the
Top Up position for a minimum of two
minutes.CAUTION!
Once this procedure has beencompleted and the top is in the
UP (raised) position, see your au-
thorized dealer.
DO NOT exceed 64 km/h.

Using the Emergency Bypass Mode could potentially damage
the convertible top and should
only be used to raise the power
top to the UP (raised) position
when the normal top operation is
not functioning.
If damage starts to occur while in the
Emergency Bypass Mode, immedi-
ately release the power top switch and
see your authorized dealer.
NOTE: This procedure may take
more time to fully raise and close
the power top. It is not uncommon
to see delays of up to 30 seconds
before operation begins.
MIRRORS
AUTOMATIC DIMMING
MIRROR
A two-point pivot system allows for
horizontal and vertical adjustment of
the mirror. Adjust the mirror to center
on the view through the rear window. This mirror automatically adjusts for
headlight glare from vehicles behind
you. You can turn the feature on or off
by pressing the button at the base of
the mirror. A light to the left of the
button will illuminate to indicate
when the dimming feature is acti-
vated. The sensor to the right of the
button does not illuminate.
NOTE: This feature is disabled
when the vehicle is moving in re-
verse.

25. Tire Pressure Monitoring Tell-
tale LightEach tire, including the
spare (if provided), should
be checked monthly when
cold and inflated to the in-
flation pressure recommended by the
vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle
placard or tire inflation pressure la-
bel. (If your vehicle has tires of a
different size than the size indicated
on the vehicle placard or tire inflation
pressure label, you should determine
the proper tire inflation pressure for
those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your ve-
hicle has been equipped with a Tire
Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
that illuminates a low tire pressure
telltale when one or more of your tires
is significantly under-inflated. Ac-
cordingly, when the low tire pressure
telltale illuminates, you should stop
and check your tires as soon as pos-
sible, and inflate them to the proper
pressure. Driving on a significantly
under-inflated tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel effi-
ciency and tire tread life, and may
affect the vehicle’s handling and stop-
ping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a
substitute for proper tire mainte-
nance, and it is the driver’s responsi-
bility to maintain correct tire pres-
sure, even if under-inflation has not
reached the level to trigger illumina-
tion of the TPMS low tire pressure
telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped
with a TPMS malfunction indicator to
indicate when the system is not oper-
ating properly. The TPMS malfunc-
tion indicator is combined with the
low tire pressure telltale. When the
system detects a malfunction, the tell-
tale will flash for approximately one
minute and then remain continuously
illuminated. This sequence will con-
tinue upon subsequent vehicle start-
ups as long as the malfunction exists.
When the malfunction indicator is il-
luminated, the system may not be
able to detect or signal low tire pres-
sure as intended. TPMS malfunctionsmay occur for a variety of reasons,
including the installation of replace-
ment or alternate tires or wheels on
the vehicle that prevent the TPMS
from functioning properly. Always
check the TPMS malfunction telltale
after replacing one or more tires or
wheels on your vehicle, to ensure that
the replacement or alternate tires and
wheels allow the TPMS to continue to
function properly.
CAUTION!
The TPMS has been optimized for
the original equipment tires and
wheels. TPMS pressures and warn-
ing have been established for the
tire size equipped on your vehicle.
Undesirable system operation or
sensor damage may result when us-
ing replacement equipment that is
not of the same size, type, and/or
style. Aftermarket wheels can cause
sensor damage. Do not use tire seal-
ant from a can or balance beads if
your vehicle is equipped with a
TPMS, as damage to the sensors
may result.

Engine power may also be reduced to
help the vehicle maintain the desired
path. ESC uses sensors in the vehicle
to determine the vehicle path in-
tended by the driver and compares it
to the actual path of the vehicle. When
the actual path does not match the
intended path, ESC applies the brake
of the appropriate wheel to assist in
counteracting the oversteer or under-
steer condition.
Over-steer - when the vehicle isturning more than appropriate for
the steering wheel position.
Under-steer - when the vehicle is turning less than appropriate for
the steering wheel position.WARNING!
The Electronic Stability Control
(ESC) cannot prevent the natural
laws of physics from acting on the
vehicle, nor can it increase the trac-
tion afforded by prevailing road
conditions. ESC cannot prevent ac-
cidents, including those resulting

from excessive speed in turns, driv-
ing on very slippery surfaces, or
hydroplaning. ESC also cannot
prevent accidents resulting from
loss of vehicle control due to inap-
propriate driver input for the con-
ditions. Only a safe, attentive, and
skillful driver can prevent acci-
dents. The capabilities of an ESC
equipped vehicle must never be ex-
ploited in a reckless or dangerous
manner which could jeopardize the
user’s safety or the safety of others.
ESC Operating Modes
All ESC equipped vehicles can choose
the following ESC operating modes:
ESC On
This is the normal operating mode for
ESC. Whenever the vehicle is started
the ESC system will be in this mode.
This mode should be used for almost
all driving situations. ESC should
only be turned to “Partial Off” for
specific reasons as noted below. Partial ESC Mode
This mode is entered by momentarily
pressing the “ESC Off” switch (located
in the lower switch bank below the
heater/air conditioning controls). When
in “Partial Off” mode, the TCS portion
of ESC, except for the limited slip fea-
ture described in the TCS section, has
been disabled and the “ESC Activation/
Malfunction Indicator Light” will be il-
luminated. All other stability features of
ESC function normally, with the excep-
tion of engine power reduction. This
mode is intended to be used if the ve-
hicle is in deep snow, sand, or gravel
conditions and more wheel spin than
ESC would normally allow is required
to gain traction.

how to properly inflate the vehicle’s
tires. The tire pressure will also in-
crease as the vehicle is driven - this is
normal and there should be no adjust-
ment for this increased pressure.
The TPM System will warn the driver
of a low tire pressure if the tire pres-
sure falls below the low-pressure
warning limit for any reason, includ-
ing low temperature effects and natu-
ral pressure loss through the tire.
The TPM System will continue to
warn the driver of low tire pressure as
long as the condition exists, and will
not turn off until the tire pressure is at
or above the recommended cold plac-
ard pressure. Once the low tire pres-
sure warning (Tire Pressure Monitor-
ing Telltale Light) illuminates, you
must increase the tire pressure to the
recommended cold placard pressure
in order for the “Tire Pressure Moni-
toring Telltale Light” to turn off. The
system will automatically update and
the “Tire Pressure Monitoring TelltaleLight” will turn off once the system
receives the updated tire pressures.
The vehicle may need to be driven for
up to 20 minutes above 24 km/h in
order for the TPMS to receive this
information.
For example, your vehicle may have a
recommended cold (parked for more
than three hours) placard pressure of
207 kPa. If the ambient temperature
is 20°C and the measured tire pres-
sure is 186 kPa, a temperature drop to
7°C will decrease the tire pressure to
approximately 158 kPa. This tire
pressure is sufficiently low enough to
turn ON the “Tire Pressure Monitor-
ing Telltale Light.” Driving the ve-
hicle may cause the tire pressure to
rise to approximately 186 kPa, but
the “Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale
Light” will still be ON. In this situa-
tion, the “Tire Pressure Monitoring
Telltale Light” will turn OFF only
after the tires are inflated to the vehi-
cle’s recommended cold placard pres-
sure value.
CAUTION!
The TPMS has been optimized for

hicle. Undesirable system opera-
tion or sensor damage may result
when using replacement equip-
ment that is not of the same size,
type, and/or style. Aftermarket
wheels can cause sensor damage.
Do not use aftermarket tire seal-
ants or balance beads if your ve-
hicle is equipped with a TPMS, as
damage to the sensors may result. After inspecting or adjusting the
tire pressure, always reinstall the
valve stem cap. This will prevent
moisture and dirt from entering
the valve stem, which could dam-
age the Tire Pressure Monitoring
Sensor.

NOTE:
The TPMS is not intended to re-
place normal tire care and main-
tenance, or to provide warning of
a tire failure or condition. The TPMS should not be used asa tire pressure gauge while ad-
justing your tire pressure.
Driving on a significantly under-
inflated tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead to tire fail-
ure. Under-inflation also reduces
fuel efficiency and tire tread life,
and may affect the vehicle’s han-
dling and stopping ability.The TPMS is not a substitute for
proper tire maintenance, and it is
the driver’s responsibility to
maintain correct tire pressure us-
ing an accurate tire pressure
gauge, even if under-inflation has
not reached the level to trigger il-
lumination of the “Tire Pressure
Monitoring Telltale Light.” Seasonal temperature changes will affect tire pressure, and the
TPMS will monitor the actual
tire pressure in the tire. PREMIUM SYSTEM
The Tire Pressure Monitor System
(TPMS) uses wireless technology with
wheel rim mounted electronic sensors
to monitor tire pressure levels. Sen-
sors, mounted to each wheel as part of
the valve stem, transmit tire pressure
readings to the Receiver Module.
NOTE: It is particularly impor-
tant for you to check the tire pres-
sure in all of the tires on your ve-
hicle monthly and to maintain the
proper pressure.
The TPMS consists of the following
components:
1. Receiver Module
2. Four Tire Pressure Monitoring
Sensors
3. Three Trigger Modules (mounted
in three of the four wheel-wells)
4. Various Tire Pressure Monitoring
System Messages, which display in
the Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC)
5.
Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale
Light
Tire Pressure Monitoring Low
Pressure Warnings
The “Tire Pressure Monitoring
Telltale Light” will illuminate
in the instrument cluster and a
chime will sound when tire pressure is
low in one or more of the four active
road tires. In addition, the Electronic
Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)
will display a “Inflate Tire to XX”
message for a minimum of five sec-
onds and a graphic showing the pres-
sure values of each tire with the low
tire pressure values flashing. The rec-
ommended cold placard pressure in-
flation value is the pressure value dis-
played in the “Inflate Tire to XX”
message displayed in the EVIC.
Should this occur, you should stop as
soon as possible, and inflate all tires
with low pressure (those flashing in
the EVIC graphic) to the vehicle’s rec-
ommended cold placard pressure
value. Once the system receives the
updated tire pressures, the system will
automatically update, the “Inflate
Tire to XX” message will no longer be
displayed, the graphic display in the
EVIC will stop flashing, and the “Tire

Pressure Monitoring Telltale Light”
will turn off. The vehicle may need to
be driven for up to 20 minutes above
24 km/h in order for the TPMS to
receive this information.
Check TPMS WarningWhen a system fault is detected, a chime
will sound and the “Tire Pressure Moni-
toring Telltale Light” will flash on and
off for 75 seconds and then remain on
solid. In addition, the EVIC will display
a "CHECK TPM SYSTEM" message for
a minimum of five seconds and then
display dashes (- -) in place of the pres-
sure value to indicate which sensor is
not being received.If the ignition key is cycled, this se-
quence will repeat, providing the sys-
tem fault still exists. If the system
fault no longer exists, the “Tire Pres-
sure Monitoring Telltale Light” will
no longer flash, and the "CHECK
TPM SYSTEM" message will no lon-
ger display, and a pressure value willdisplay in place of the dashes. A sys-
tem fault can occur due to any of the
following:
1. Jamming due to electronic devices
or driving next to facilities emitting
the same Radio Frequencies as the
TPM sensors.
2. Installing some form of aftermar-
ket window tinting that affects radio
wave signals.
3. Lots of snow or ice around the
wheels or wheel housings.
4. Using tire chains on the vehicle.
5. Using wheels/tires not equipped
with TPM sensors.
The EVIC will also display a
"CHECK TPM SYSTEM" message
for a minimum of five seconds when a
system fault related to an incorrect
sensor location fault is detected. In
this case, the "CHECK TPM SYS-
TEM" message is then followed with a
graphic display with pressure values
still shown. This indicates that thepressure values are still being received
from the TPM sensors but they may
not be located in the correct vehicle
position. The system still needs to be
serviced as long as the "CHECK TPM
SYSTEM" message is displayed.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
All engines are designed to meet all
emissions regulations and provide ex-
cellent fuel economy and performance
when using high quality unleaded
gasoline with a minimum research oc-
tane rating of 91.
Light spark knock at low engine
speeds is not harmful to your engine.
However, continued heavy spark
knock at high speeds can cause dam-
age and immediate service is required.
Poor quality gasoline can cause prob-
lems such as hard starting, stalling,
and hesitations. If you experience
these symptoms, try another brand of
gasoline before considering service for
the vehicle.
