QSituations in which the curve speed
reduction function may not operate
In situations such as the following, the curve
speed reduction function may not operate:
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
a gentle curve.
OWhen the accelerator pedal is being
depressed.
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
an extremely short curve.
QBrake operation
A brake operation sound may be heard and
the brake pedal response may change, but
these are not malfunctions.
QWarning messages and buzzers for
dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range
Warning messages and buzzers are used to
indicate a system malfunction or to inform
the driver of the need for caution while driv-
ing. If a warning message is shown on the
multi-information displa y, read the message
and follow the instructions. ( P.180, 374)
QWhen the sensor may not be correctly
detecting the vehicle ahead
In the case of the following and depending
on the conditions, operate the brake pedal
when deceleration of the system is insuffi-
cient or operate the accelerator pedal
when acceleration is required.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect these types of vehicles, the approach
warning ( P.210) may not be activated.
OVehicles that cut in suddenly
OVehicles traveling at low speeds
OVehicles that are not moving in the same
lane
OVehicles with small rear ends (trailers
with no load on board, etc.)
OMotorcycles traveling in the same lane
OWhen water or snow thrown up by the
surrounding vehicles hinders the detect-
ing of the sensor
OWhen your vehicle is pointing upwards
(caused by a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, etc.)
OPreceding vehicle has an extremely high
ground clearance
QConditions under wh ich the vehicle-to-
vehicle distance control mode may not
function correctly
In the case of the following conditions,
operate the brake pedal (or accelerator
pedal, depending on the situation) as nec-
essary.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect vehicles ahead, the system may not
operate properly.
OWhen the road curves or when the lanes
are narrow
OWhen steering wheel operation or your
position in the lane is unstable

Outside rear view mirror indicators
When a vehicle is detected in a blind spot
of the outside rear view mirrors or
approaching rapidly from behind into a
blind spot, the outside rear view mirror
indicator on the detected side will illumi-
nate. If the turn signal lever is operated
toward the detected side, the outside rear
view mirror indicator will flash.
BSM indicator
When the Blind Spot Monitor is turned on,
the indicator comes on.
1 Press or of the meter con-
trol switches, select .
2 Press or of the meter con-
trol switches, select “BSM”, and
then press “OK”.
QOutside rear view mirror indicator visi-
bility
In strong sunlight, the outside rear view mir-
ror indicator may be difficult to see.
QWhen “Blind Spot Monitor Unavailable”
is shown on the multi-information dis-
play
Ice, snow, mud, etc., may be attached to the
rear bumper around the sensors. ( P.215)
Remove the ice, snow, mud, etc., attached
to the rear bumper around the sensors to
return the function to normal. Additionally,
the sensors may not operate normally when
driving in extremely hot or cold environ-
ments.
QCustomization
Some functions can be customized. (Cus-
tomizable features:  P.421)
Turning the Blind Spot Monitor
on/off

WARNING
QTo ensure the system can operate
properly
Blind Spot Monitor sensors are installed
behind the left and right sides of the rear
bumper respectively. Observe the fol-
lowing to ensure the Blind Spot Monitor
can function correctly.
OKeep the sensors and the surrounding
areas on the rear bumper clean at all
times.
If a sensor or its surrounding area on
the rear bumper is dirty or covered
with snow, the Blind Spot Monitor may
not operate and a warning message
(  P.215) will be displayed. In this situ-
ation, clear off the dirt or snow and
drive the vehicle with the operation
conditions of the BSM function
(  P.217) satisfied for approximately
10 minutes. If the warning message
does not disappear, have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer.
ODo not subject a sensor or its sur-
rounding area on the rear bumper to a
strong impact.
If a sensor is move d even slightly off
position, the system may malfunction
and vehicles may not be detected cor-
rectly.
In the following situations, have your
vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer.
• A sensor or its surrounding area is subject to a strong impact.
• If the surrounding area of a sensor is scratched or dented, or part of them
has become disconnected.
ODo not disassemble the sensor.

QIf “Parking Assist Unavailable” is dis-
played on the multi-information display
OWater may be continuously flowing over
the sensor surface, such as in a heavy
rain. When the system determines that it
is normal, the system will return to nor-
mal.
OInitialization may not have been per-
formed after a 12-volt battery terminal
was disconnected and reconnected. Ini-
tialize the system. (P.225)
If this message continues to be displayed
even after initialization, have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer.
QIf a 12-volt battery terminal has been
disconnected and reconnected
The system needs to be initialized. To initial-
ize the system, drive the vehicle straight
ahead for 5 seconds or more at a speed of
approximately 22 mph (35 km/h) or more.
Additionally, for vehicles with the Parking
Support Brake function, turn the steering
wheel fully to the left and right with the vehi-
cle stopped.
QSensor detection information
OThe sensor’s detection areas are limited
to the areas around the vehicle’s front
and rear bumpers.
OThe following situations may occur
during use.
• Depending on the shape of the object and other factors, the detection distance
may shorten, or detection may be impos-
sible.
• There will be a short delay between
object detection and display. Even at low
speeds, there is a possibility that the
object will come within the sensor’s
detection areas before the display is
shown and the warning beep sounds.
• It might be difficult to hear the buzzer due
to the volume of the audio system or air
flow noise of the air conditioning system.
• It may be difficult to hear the buzzer if buzzers for other systems are sounding.
QObjects which the system may not prop-
erly detect
The shape of the object may prevent the
sensor from detecting it. Pay particular
attention to the following objects:
OWires, fences, ropes, etc.
OCotton, snow and other materials that
absorb sound waves
OSharply-angled objects
OLow objects
OTall objects with upper sections project-
ing outwards in the direction of your vehi-
cle
People may not be detected if they are
wearing certain types of clothing.
QSituations in which the system may not
operate properly
Certain vehicle conditions and the sur-
rounding environment may affect the ability
of a sensor to correctly detect objects. Par-
ticular instances where this may occur are
listed below.
OThere is dirt, snow or ice on a sensor.
(Cleaning the sensors will resolve this
problem.)
OA sensor is frozen. (Thawing the area will
resolve this problem.)
In especially cold weather, if a sensor is
frozen the sensor display may be dis-
played abnormally, or objects, such as a
wall, may not be detected.
OWhen a sensor or the area around a sen-
sor is extremely hot or cold.
OOn an extremely bumpy road, on an
incline, on gravel, or on grass.
OWhen vehicle horns, vehicle detectors,
motorcycle engines, air brakes of large
vehicles, the clearance sonar of other
vehicles or other devices which produce
ultrasonic waves are near the vehicle.
OA sensor is coated with a sheet of spray
or heavy rain.
OIf objects draw too close to the sensor.
OWhen a pedestrian is wearing clothing

that does not reflect ultrasonic waves (ex.
skirts with gathers or frills).
OWhen objects that are not perpendicular
to the ground, not perpendicular to the
vehicle traveling direction, uneven, or
waving are in the detection range.
OStrong wind is blowing.
OWhen driving in inclement weather such
as fog, snow or a sandstorm.
OWhen an object that cannot be detected
is between the vehicle and a detected
object.
OIf an object such as a vehicle, motorcycle,
bicycle or pedestrian cuts in front of the
vehicle or runs out from the side of the
vehicle.
OIf the orientation of a sensor has been
changed due to a collision or other
impact.
OWhen equipment that may obstruct a
sensor is installed, such as a towing eye-
let, bumper protector (an additional trim
strip, etc.), bicycle carrier, or snow plow.
OIf the front of the vehicle is raised or low-
ered due to the carried load.
OIf the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable
manner, such as when the vehicle has
been in an accident or is malfunctioning.
OWhen tire chains, a compact spare tire or
an emergency tire puncture repair kit are
used.
QSituations in which the system may
operate even if there is no possibility of a
collision
In some situations, such as the following, the
system may operate even though there is
no possibility of a collision.
OWhen driving on a narrow road.
OWhen driving toward a banner, flag, low- hanging branch or boom barrier (such as
those used at railroad crossings, toll
gates and parking lots).
OWhen there is a rut or hole in the surface
of the road.
OWhen driving on a metal cover (grating),
such as those used for drainage ditches.
OWhen driving up or down a steep slope.
OIf a sensor is hit by a large amount of
water, such as when driving on a flooded
road.
OThere is dirt, snow, water drops or ice on
a sensor. (Cleaning the sensors will
resolve this problem.)
OA sensor is coated with a sheet of spray
or heavy rain.
OWhen driving in inclement weather such
as fog, snow or a sandstorm.
OWhen strong winds are blowing.
OWhen vehicle horns, vehicle detectors,
motorcycle engines, air brakes of large
vehicles, the clearance sonar of other
vehicles or other devices which produce
ultrasonic waves are near the vehicle.
OIf the front of the vehicle is raised or low-
ered due to the carried load.
OIf the orientation of a sensor has been
changed due to a collision or other
impact.
OThe vehicle is approaching a tall or
curved curb.
ODriving close to columns (H-shaped steel
beams, etc.) in multi-story parking
garages, construction sites, etc.
OIf the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable
manner, such as when the vehicle has
been in an accident or is malfunctioning.
OOn an extremely bumpy road, on an
incline, on gravel, or on grass.

vehicle by utilizing the trunk space and
rear seat area.

Ensure that the armrest door is closed. In
the event of sudden braking, items stored
in the trunk may be thrown forward into
the cabin, resulting in injury.
Coat hooks

QItems that should not be hanged
Do not hang coat hangers or other hard
or sharp objects on the hook. If the SRS
curtain shield airbags deploy, these items
may become projectiles, causing death
or serious injury.

Interior featuresQBefore programming HomeLink®
During programming, it is possible
that garage doors, gates, or other
devices may operate. For this rea-
son, make sure that people and
objects are clear of the garage door
or other devices to prevent injury or
other potential harm.
 It is recommended that a new bat-
tery be placed in the remote control
transmitter for more accurate pro-
gramming.
 Garage door opener motors manu-
factured after 1995 may be
equipped with rolling code protec-
tion. If this is the case, you may need
a stepladder or other sturdy, safe
device to reach the “Learn” or
“Smart” button on the garage door
opener motor.
QProgramming HomeLink®
Steps 1 through 3 must be performed
within 60 seconds, otherwise the indi-
cator light will stop flashing and pro-
gramming will not be able to be
completed.
1 Press and release the HomeLink

button you want to program and
check that the HomeLink

The OBD system determines that a
problem exists somewhere in the emis-
sion control system. Your vehicle may
not pass the I/M test and may need to
be repaired. Contact your Lexus
dealer to service the vehicle.
When the 12-volt battery is discon-
nected or discharged
Readiness codes that are set during
ordinary driving are erased.
Also, depending on your driving
habits, the readiness codes may not
be completely set.
 When the fuel tank cap is loose
The malfunction indicator lamp
comes on indicating a temporary
malfunction and your vehicle may
not pass the I/M test. The error code in the OBD system will
not be cleared unless the vehicle is
driven 40 or more times.
Contact your Lexus dealer to prepare
the vehicle for re-testing.
Emission inspection and
maintenance (I/M) pro-
grams
Some states have vehicle emission
inspection programs which include
OBD (On Board Diagnostics)
checks. The OBD system monitors
the operation of the emission con-
trol system.

QIf the coolant level drops within a short
time of replenishing
Visually check the radiator, hoses,
engine/power control unit coolant reser-
voir caps, drain cock and water pump.
If you cannot find a leak, have your Lexus
dealer test the cap and check for leaks in
the cooling system.
Check the radiator and condenser and
clear away any foreign objects.
If either of the above parts is extremely
dirty or you are not sure of their condi-
tion, have your vehicle inspected by
your Lexus dealer.

WARNING
QWhen the hybrid system is hot
Do not remove the engine/power con-
trol unit coolant reservoir caps or the
radiator cap. ( P.398)
The cooling system may be under pres-
sure and may spray hot coolant if the cap
is removed, causing serious injuries, such
as burns.
NOTICE
QWhen adding coolant
Coolant is neither plain water nor
straight antifreeze. The correct mixture
of water and antifreeze must be used to
provide proper lubrication, corrosion
protection and cooling. Be sure to read
the antifreeze or coolant label.
QIf you spill coolant
Be sure to wash it off with water to pre-
vent it from damaging parts or paint.
