The 12-volt battery is located on the
right-hand side of the trunk.
QBefore recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery pro-
duces hydrogen gas which is flammable
and explosive. Therefore, observe the fol-
lowing precautions before recharging:
OIf recharging with the 12-volt battery
installed on the vehicle, be sure to dis-
connect the ground cable.
OMake sure the power switch on the char-
ger is off when connecting and discon-
necting the charger cables to the 12-volt
battery.
QAfter recharging/reconnecting the 12-
volt battery
OThe hybrid system may not start.
Follow the procedure below to initialize the
system.
1 Shift the shift lever to P.
2 Open and close any of the doors.
3 Restart the hybrid system.
OUnlocking the doors using the smart
access system with push-button start may
not be possible immediately after recon-
necting the 12-volt battery. If this hap-
pens, use the wireless remote control or
the mechanical key to lock/unlock the
doors.
OStart the hybrid system with the power
switch in ACCESSORY mode. The

QDo not use any fluid other than
washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine anti-
freeze instead of washer fluid.
Doing so may cause streaking on the
vehicle’s painted surfaces, as well as
damaging the pump leading to problems
of the washer fluid not spraying.
QDiluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as neces-
sary.
Refer to the freezing temperatures listed
on the label of the washer fluid bottle.

When trouble arises
When replacing tires on a vehicle with
wheel lock nuts, use the following pro-
cedures to remove and install the
wheel lock nuts. The wheel lock key is
stored in the tray inside the luggage
compartment. Always return the wheel
lock key to its original position after
use, so that it does not get lost.
QRemoval
For ease of removal, the wheel lock nut
should always be the first one loos-
ened.
1 Place the wheel lock key on top of
the wheel lock nut, turning until the
wheel lock key and wheel lock nut
patterns engage. 2
Place the wheel nut wrench on the
wheel lock key, and while applying
pressure on the wheel lock key,
loosen the wheel lock nut.
QInstallation
For ease of installation, the wheel lock
nut should always be the last one tight-
ened.
1 By hand, Install a wheel lock nut on
the wheel to be installed.
2 Place the wheel lock key on top of
the wheel lock nut, turning until the
wheel lock key and wheel lock nut
patterns engage.
3 Place the wheel nut wrench on the
wheel lock key, and while applying
pressure on the wheel lock key,
tighten the wheel lock nut to the
recommended torque.
1 Open the trunk.
2 Pull the lever upwards when lifting
the luggage mat up.
WARNING
ODo not raise the vehicle while some-
one is inside.
OWhen raising the vehicle, do not put an
object on or under the jack.
ODo not raise the vehicle to a height
greater than that required to replace
the tire.
OUse a jack stand if it is necessary to get
under the vehicle.
OWhen lowering the vehicle, make sure
that there is no-one near the vehicle. If
there are people nearby, warn them
vocally before lowering.
Wheel lock nut (if equipped)
NOTICE
Do not use an impact wrench. Using an
impact wrench may cause permanent
damage to wheel lock nut and wheel lock
key. If in doubt about wheel lock applica-
tion, contact your Lexus dealer.

Remove the cover inside the trunk and
pull the lever.
If you lose your keys
New genuine mechanical keys can
be made by your Lexus dealer using
another mechanical key and the
key number stamped on your key
number plate. Keep the plate in a
safe place such as your wallet, not in
the vehicle.
NOTICE
QWhen an electronic key is lost
If the electronic key remains lost, the risk
of vehicle theft increases significantly.
Visit your Lexus dealer immediately with
all remaining electr onic keys and the
card key (if equipped) that were pro-
vided with your vehicle.
If the fuel filler door cannot
be opened
If the fuel filler door opener switch
cannot be operated, contact your
Lexus dealer to service the vehicle.
In case where refueling is urgently
necessary, the following proce-
dure can be used to open the fuel
filler door.
Opening the fuel filler door
NOTICE
QWhen opening the fuel filler door
manually
ODo not open the fuel filler door manu-
ally except in an emergency. Fuel may
overflow.
OUsing the lever to open the fuel filler
door may not allow for an adequate
reduction in fuel ta nk pressure before
refueling. To prevent fuel from spilling
out, turn the cap slowly when remov-
ing it.
ODuring refueling, fuel may spill out
from the filler opening due to air being
discharged from inside the fuel tank.
Therefore, fill the fuel tank carefully
and slowly.

QWhen the electronic key does not work
properly
OMake sure that the smart access system
with push-button start has not been deac-
tivated using the Remote Touch or at
your Lexus dealer. If it is off, turn the func-
tion on.
OCheck if battery-saving mode is set. If it is
set, cancel the function. (P.117)
Use the mechanical key ( P.102) in
order to perform the following opera-
tions:
QUnlocking the door
1 Pull the driver’s door handle and
insert the mechanical key.
2 Unlock the door.
3 Remove the key, return the handle,
and then pull the handle again.
QLocking the door
1 With the door open, push down the
inside lock button.
2 Close the door.
QOpening the trunk
Turn the mechanical key clockwise to

operate properly
If communication between the
electronic key and vehicle is inter-
rupted ( P.117) or the electronic
key cannot be used because the
battery is depleted, the smart
access system with push-button
start and wireless remote control
cannot be used. In such cases, the
doors and trunk can be opened and
the hybrid system can be started by
following the procedure below.

QIn case of a smart access system with
push-button start malfunction or
other key-related problems
Take your vehicle with all the electronic
keys provided with your vehicle (includ-
ing the card key) to your Lexus dealer as
soon as possible.
