ENGINE COOLANT
TEMPERATURE GAUGE
Normal range
The gauge indicates the engine coolant temperature when
the ignition switch is on. The engine operating
temperature will vary with changes in weather and engine
load.
If the needle points to the red zone or higher, stop your vehicle
and allow the engine to cool.Your vehicle may overheat during severe operating conditions,
such as:
Driving up a long hill on a hot day.
Reducing speed or stopping after high speed driving.
Idling for a long period with the air conditioning on in
stop-and-go traffic.
Towing a trailer.

CAUTION
If either of the following conditions occurs, immediately
stop your vehicle at a safe place and contact your Lexus
dealer.
The light does not turn off even after the parking
brake is released while the engine is running.
In this case, the brakes may not work properly and
your stopping distance will become longer. Depress
the brake pedal firmly and bring the vehicle to an
immediate stop.
The brake system warning light remains on together
with the ABSº warning light.
In this case, not only the anti-lock brake system will
fail but also the vehicle will become extremely
unstable during braking.
(b) Driver's Seat Belt Reminder Light and Buzzer
This light and buzzer remind you to buckle up the driver's seat
belt.
Once the ignition key is turned to ONº or STARTº, the
reminder light and buzzer come on if the driver's seat belt is not
fastened. Unless the driver fastens the belt, the light stays on
and the buzzer stops after about 4 to 8 seconds.
(c) Front Passenger's Seat Belt Reminder Light
This light reminds you to buckle up the front passenger's seat
belt.
Once the ignition key is turned to the ONº position, the
reminder light flashes if a front passenger sits in the front
passenger seat and does not fasten the seat belt.
If luggage or other load is placed on the front passenger seat,
depending on its weight, the reminder light may come on.
(d) SRS Warning Light
This light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the
ONº position. It goes off after about 6 seconds. This
means the SRS airbags and front seat belt pretensioners
are operating properly.
This warning light system monitors the airbag sensor
assembly, front airbag sensors, side and curtain shield airbag
sensor assemblies, curtain shield airbag sensor assemblies,
driver's seat position sensor, driver's seat belt buckle switch,
front passenger occupant classification system, AIRBAG
OFFº indicator light, AIRBAG ONº indicator light, front
passenger's seat belt buckle switch, front seat belt
pretensioner assemblies, inflators, warning light,
interconnecting wiring and power sources.

(e) Discharge Warning Light
This light warns that the battery is being discharged. If it comes on while you are driving, stop the vehicle, turn off the
engine, and check for the cause. Look first at the engine drive
belt.
If it is loose or broken, the generator will not charge the
battery properly.
If the belt is O.K., there is a problem somewhere in the
charging system.
The engine ignition will continue to operate, however, until the
battery is discharged. Turn off the air conditioning, blower,
radio, etc., and drive directly to the nearest Lexus dealer or
repair shop.
NOTICE
Do not continue driving if the engine drive belt is broken

FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT
CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
Your vehicle is equipped with a front passenger occupant
classification system. This system detects the conditions
1 Ð 4 in the table shown below, and based on these
conditions activates or deactivates the airbags. The
system monitors the weight and load on the front
passenger seat, and the seat belt buckle switch in
determining conditions correctly, do not do any of the
following.
Put a heavy load in the seatback pocket.
Attach a seatback table to the front passenger seat
seatback of the front passenger seat.
Put weight on the front passenger by putting your hands or
feet on the front passenger seat seatback from the rear
passenger seat.
The AIRBAG OFFº indicator light will be illuminated
when the ignition switch is in the ONº position and a child
restraint system is in the front passenger seat (see
table-condition 2). This indicates that in the event of a
severe frontal or passenger's side impact, the front
passenger airbag and side airbag on the front passenger
seat are deactivated and will not deploy.
If an adult sits in the front passenger seat, the AIRBAG OFFº
indicator light may also be illuminated if the following occurs.
A rear passenger lifts the front passenger seat cushion with
their legs.
Objects are placed under the front passenger seat.
The front passenger seat seatback is in contact with the rear
seat.

*1: The system judges a person of adult size as an adult. When a smaller adult sits in the front passenger seat, the system may
recognize him/her as a child depending on his/her physique and posture.

as an adult depending on his/her physique or posture.
*
3: Never install a rear-facing child restraint system on the front passenger seat. A forward-facing child restraint system should
only be installed on the front passenger seat when it is unavoidable. (See Child restraint systemº on page 158 as for installing
the child restraint system.)
