Air Conditioner Filter
Clean or r eplace at specified inter-

Axle Shaf t Boots
Check the axle shaf t boots and
clamps for cr acks, deterior ation and
damage. R eplace any damaged par ts
and, if neces sary, r epack the gr ease.

Check the suspension and steering
link age ball joints for loosenes s and
damage. Check all dust co ver s for

Body Inspection
V isually check for corr osion, scratch-
es and other damage. Check ou ter
body panels, inner panels of the hood
and door s, and underneath the v ehi-
cle. Apply touch-up paint to any chips
and scr atches or ha ve them r epaired
b y a qualified technician.
Br ake Fluid
R eplace using fluid t ype specified
in y our O wner’s Manual. A qualified

Br ake Lines and Hoses

with a r eplaceable oil-filter element
and oil-filter cap O-ring; r eplace both

Engine V alve Clear ance
(IS F, S C)
Inspect for e xces sive lif ter noise and
engine vibr ation and adjust if neces-
sar y. (All other models ar e equipped
with hy draulic v alve lash adjuster s that
r equir e no periodic clear ance inspec-
tion or adjustment.)
Exhaust Pipes and Mountings
V isually inspect the e xhaust pipes,
muf fler and hanger s for cracks,
deterior ation and damage. St art
the engine and listen car efully for
any e xhaust leak age. Tighten connec-
tions and r eplace par ts as neces sary.
F uel Lines and Connections, F uel

V isually inspect for corr osion, dam-

P ow er S teering Fluid
When inspecting, visually check the
po wer steering fluid le vel on the see-
thr ough r eservoir . A dd fluid as neces-
sar y. F or fluid specifications, r efer to
y our O wner's Manual.
R ack and Pinion As sembly
Inspect the r ack and pinion as sembly
for signs of leak age, damage and
loose electrical connections. T ighten
connections and if y ou discover any
leak age or damage, ha ve it r epair ed
immediately b y a qualified technician.
R oad T est
While driving the v ehicle, check for
pr oper oper ation of engine, tr ansmis-
sion, br akes and steering. Also check
for abnormal noise or vibr ation from

Spark Plugs
R
eplace at specified inter val. A quali-
fied technician should per form this
oper ation. T o ensur e optimum engine
per formance on ES 3 50, replace only
with D enso FK20HR11 plugs or
equiv alent.
S teering Link age and Boo ts
W ith the v ehicle stopped, check for
e xces sive fr eeplay in the steering
wheel. Inspect the link age for bending
and damage and the dust boots for
deterior ation, cracks and damage.
R eplace any damaged par ts. A quali-
fied technician should per form these
oper ations.
T iming Belt (S C)
R eplace e ver y 90 ,000 miles or
1 08 months. A qualified technician
should per form this oper ation.
T iming Chain (ES, G S, IS, LS)
The ES, G S, IS and LS ar e equipped
with a timing chain that r equires no
periodic inspection.
T ir e R otation
T ir es should be r otated accor ding
to the instructions in y our Owner’s
Manual. When r otating tir es, check
pr es sur e and check for damage and
une ven w ear. If the spar e is not rotat-
ed, check the condition and pr essur e
of the spar e. T
ir e-P res sur e W arning Sensor s
A tir e-pressur e sensor is mounted on
each full-siz e wheel. These sensor s
do not r equire periodic maintenance.
When a sensor ’s long-life lithium bat-
ter y becomes dischar ged, the battery
should be r eplaced by a qualified
technician follo wing procedures in
L exus ser vice and r epair publications.
T ransfer Case/T ransmis sion
Inspect each tr ansfer case/transmis-
sion component for signs of leak age.
If y ou disco ver any leak age, have it
r epair ed immediately b y a qualified
technician.
Note: The tr ansfer case/transmis sion
and tr ansmis sion fluid ar e a complete-
ly sealed unit. Ther efore, periodic
checks and r eplacement of the tr ans-
mis sion fluid ar e not required, and
ther e is no dipstick on the tr ansmis-
sion. Any r epairs that r equire adding
or r eplacing fluid should be per -
formed b y a qualified technician fol -
lo wing pr ocedures in Lexus ser vice
