■General precautions while driving
Driving under the influence: Never drive your vehicle when under the influence of
alcohol or drugs that have impaired your ability to operate your vehicle. Alcohol and
certain drugs delay reaction time, impair judgment and reduce coordination, which
could lead to an accident that could result in death or serious injury.
Defensive driving: Always drive defensively. Anticipate mistakes that other drivers or
pedestrians might make and be ready to avoid accidents.
Driver distraction: Always give your full atte ntion to driving. Anything that distracts the
driver, such as adjusting controls, talking on a cellular phone or reading can result in a
collision with resulting death or serious injury to you, your occupants or others.
■General precaution regarding children’s safety
Never leave children unattended in the vehicl e, and never allow children to have or use
the key.
Children may be able to start the vehicle or sh ift the vehicle into neutral. There is also a
danger that children may injure themselves by playing with the windows, the moon
roof, or other features of the vehicle. In addition, heat build-up or extremely cold tem-
peratures inside the vehicle can be fatal to children.

Safety information for children
● It is recommended that children sit in the rear seats to avoid accidental con-
tact with the shift lever, wiper switch etc.
● Use the rear door child-protector lock or the window lock switch to avoid
children opening the door while drivin g or operating the power window acci-
dentally. ( P. 163, 214)
● Do not let small children operate equipment which may catch or pinch body
parts, such as the power window, hood, trunk, seats etc.
Observe the following precautions when children are in the vehicle.
Use a child restraint system appropriate for the child, until the child becomes
large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat belt.

For safety and security
Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarm: ● Unlock the doors or open the trunk using the entry function or wireless
remote control.
● Turn the engine switch to ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode, or start
the engine. (The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a few seconds.)
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
■Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure of the follow- ing:
●Nobody is in the vehicle.
●The windows and moon roof (if equipped) are closed before the alarm is set.
●No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.

◆Smart entry & start system (vehicles with entry function)
Carry the electronic key to enable this function.Grip the handle to unlock the doors.
Make sure to touch the sensor on the
back of the handle.
The doors cannot be unlocked for 3
seconds after the doors are locked.
Touch the lock sensor (the inden-
tation on the upper part of the
door handle) to lock the doors.
Check that the door is securely locked.

WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failing to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■When using the wireless remote control and operating the power windows or moon
roof (if equipped)
Operate the power window or moon roof afte r checking to make sure that there is no
possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the window or
moon roof. Also, do not allow children to oper ate the wireless remote control. It is pos-
sible for children and other passengers to get caught in the power window or moon roof.
■Jam protection function
●Never try jamming any part of your body to activate the jam protection function
intentionally.
●The jam protection function may not work if something gets caught just before the
window or moon roof fully closes.

Power windows
The power windows can be opened and closed using the switches.
Operating the switch moves the windows as follows:Closing
One-touch closing *
Opening
One-touch opening *
* : To stop the window partway, operate the
switch in the opposite direction.
Press the switch to lock the passenger
window switches. The indicator will come on.
Use this switch to prevent children from
accidentally opening or closing a pas-
senger window.
■The power windows can be operated when
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■Operating the power windows after turning the engine off
The power windows can be operated for approximately 45 seconds even after the
engine switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off. They can not, however, be
operated once either front door is opened.
■Jam protection function
If an object becomes jammed between the window and the window frame while the win-
dow is closing, window movement is stop ped and the window is opened slightly.
■Catch protection function
If an object becomes caught between the door and window while th e window is opening,
window movement is stopped.
