5-2. Steps to take in an emergency

Warning lightWarning light/Details
SRS warning lightMalfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system;
• The front passenger occupant classification system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system.

ABS warning lightMalfunction in:
•The ABS; or
• The brake assist system.
Slip indicator light
Malfunction in:
•The VSC;
• The active traction control system;
The indicator will blink when the system listed above or
below is operational. (→ P. 3 3 7 )
• The downhill assist control system
*;
• The hill-start assist control system
*; or
• Crawl Control system*.
(Flashing)
“PCS” warning light*
Indicates a malfunction in the pre-collision system.
The warning light will operate as follows, even when the sys-
tem is not malfunctioning:
• The light will flash quickly when the system is operating.

• The light will turn on when the pre-crash braking is dis- abled. ( →P. 3 4 4 )
• The light will turn on when the system cannot temporarily be used. ( →P. 7 0 7 )

If the vehicle becomes stuck
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle becomes
stuck in mud, dirt, or snow:
Stop the engine. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever
to P.
Remove the mud, snow, or sand from around the stuck tire.
Place wood, stones or some other material to help provide
traction under the tires.
Restart the engine.
Lock the center differential. (→ P. 323)
Release the parking brake and shift the shift lever to the D or R
position and carefully apply the accelerator to free the vehicle.
Turn off TRAC and VSC if these functions are hampering your
attempts to free the vehicle. ( →P. 3 3 8 )
