The Blind Spot Monitor function uses radar sensors to detect vehicles that are
traveling in an adjacent lane in the area
that is not reflected in the outside rear
view mirror (the blind spot), and advises the driver of the vehicles existence via
the outside rear view mirror indicator.
The areas that vehicles can be detected in are outlined below.
The range of the detection area
extends to:
Approximately 11.5 ft. (3.5 m) from
the side of the vehicle
The first 1.6 ft. (0.5 m) from the side of
the vehicle is not in the detection area
Approximately 9.8 ft. (3 m) from the
rear bumper
Approximately 3.3 ft. (1 m) forward
of the rear bumper

CAUTION
■Cautions regarding the use of the system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking care to
observe your surroundings.
The Blind Spot Monitor function is a supp lementary function which alerts the driver
that a vehicle is present in the blind spot. Do not overly rely on the Blind Spot Monitor
function. The function cannot judg e if it is safe to change lanes, therefore over reliance
could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
According to conditions, the system may not function correctly. Therefore the driver’s
own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.

CAUTION
■Cautions regarding the use of the system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking care to
observe your surroundings.
The Rear Cross Traffic Alert function is only an assist and is not a replacement for care-
ful driving. Driver must be careful when backing up, even when using the Rear Cross
Traffic Alert function. The driver’s own visual confirmation of behind you and your vehi-
cle is necessary and be sure there are no pe destrians, other vehicles etc. before back-
ing up. Failure to do so could cause death or serious injury.
According to conditions, the system may not function correctly. Therefore the driver’s

CAUTION
■Limitations of the pre-collision system
The driver is solely responsible for safe
driving. Always drive safely, taking care to
observe your surroundings.
Do not use the pre-collision system instea d of normal braking operations under any
circumstances. This system will not prevent collisions or lessen damage or injuries in all
cases. Do not overly rely on this system. Failu re to do so may cause an accident, result-
ing in death or serious injury.
This system has been designed to help av oid and reduce the impact of collisions. How-
ever, the system operates differently depending on the situation ( P. 365, 366). As a
result, the same level of performance may no t be expected in all cases. Also, the pre-
collision brakes may not operate if the driver is depressing the brake pedal or turning
the steering wheel, as the system will dete rmine such conditions as collision avoidance
operations.
■Cautions regarding the assist contents of the system
By means of alarms and brake control, the pre- collision system is intended to assist the
driver in avoiding collisions through the process of LOOK-JUDGE-ACT. There are
limits to the degree of assistance the system can provide, so please keep in mind the
following important points.
●Assisting the driver in watching the road
The pre-collision system is only able to detect obstacles directly in front of the vehicle,
and only within a limited range. It is not a mechanism that allows careless or inatten-
tive driving, and it is not a system that can assist the driver in low-visibility conditions. It
is still necessary for the driver to pay cl ose attention to the vehicle’s surroundings.
●Assisting the driver in making correct judgment
When attempting to estimate the possibility of a collision, the only data available to
the pre-collision system is that from obstacle s it has detected directly in front of the
vehicle. Therefore, it is absolutely necess ary for the driver to remain vigilant and to
determine whether or not there is a possib ility of collision in any given situation.
●Assisting the driver in taking action
The pre-collision system’s braking assist feat ure is designed to help reduce the sever-
ity of a collision, and so only acts when the system has judged that a collision is
unavoidable. This system is not capable of automatically avoiding a collision or bring-
ing the vehicle to a stop safely without appropriate operations performed by the
driver. For this reason, when encountering a dangerous situation the driver must take
direct and immediate action in order to ensure the safety of all involved.

GX460_OM_OM60M73U_(U)4-6. Driving tips
When driving your vehicle off-road, please observe the following precautions to
ensure your driving enjoyment and to help prevent the closure of areas to off-
road vehicles:
●Drive your vehicle only in areas where off-road vehicles are permitted to
travel.
●Respect private property. Get owner’s permission before entering private
property.
●Do not enter areas that are closed. Honor gates, barriers and signs that
restrict travel.
●Stay on established roads. When co
nditions are wet, driving techniques
should be changed or travel delayed to prevent damage to roads.

CAUTION
■Off-road driving precautions
Always observe the following precautions to minimize the risk of death, serious injury
or damage to your vehicle:
●Drive carefully when off the road. Do not take unnecessary risks by driving in danger-
ous places.
●Do not grip the steering wheel spokes when driving off-road. A bad bump could jerk
the wheel and injure your hands. Keep both hands and especially your thumbs on the
outside of the rim.
●Always check your brakes for effectivenes s immediately after driving in sand, mud,
water or snow.
●After driving through tall grass, mud, rock, sand, rivers, etc., check that there is no
grass, bush, paper, rags, stone, sand, etc. adhering or trapped on the underbody.
Clear off any such matter from the underbody. If the vehicle is used with these materi-
als trapped or adhering to the underb ody, a breakdown or fire could occur.
●When driving off-road or in rugged terrai n, do not drive at excessive speeds, jump,
make sharp turns, strike objects, etc. This may cause loss of control or vehicle rollover
causing death or serious injury. You are also risking expensive damage to your vehi-
cle’s suspension and chassis.

Interior features
■Registering air conditioning settings to electronic keys
●Unlocking the vehicle using an electronic key and turning the engine switch to
IGNITION ON mode will recall that key’s registered air conditioning settings.
●When the engine switch is turned off, the current air conditioning settings will automat-
ically be registered to the electronic key that was used to unlock the vehicle.
The system may not operate correctly if more th an one electronic key is in the vicinity or
if the smart access system with push-button start is used to unlock a passenger door.
Settings for the electronic key and the corresponding door can be changed.
Contact your Lexus dealer.
■Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically accordin g to the temperature setting and the ambi-
ent conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until warm or cool air is ready to flow immediately
after the “AUTO” button is pressed.
■When the outside temperature exceeds 75 F (24 C) and the air conditioning system
is on
●In order to reduce the air conditioning po wer consumption, the air conditioning system
may switch to recirculated air mode automatically.
This may also reduce fuel consumption.
●Recirculated air mode is selected as a defaul t mode when the engine switch is turned to
IGNITION ON mode.
●It is possible to switch to outside air mode at any time by pressing or
.
■Fogging up of the windows
●The windows will easily fog up when the humidity in the vehicle is high. Touching “A/C”
on will dehumidify the air from the outl ets and defog the windshield effectively.
●If you turn “A/C” off, the windows may fog up more easily.
●The windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
■Outside/recirculated air mode
●When driving on dusty roads such as tunnels or in heavy traffic, set the outside/recircu-
lated air mode button to the recirculated ai r mode. This is effective in preventing out-
side air from entering the vehicle interior. During cooling operation, setting the
recirculated air mode will also cool the vehicle interior effectively.
●Outside/recirculated air mode may automa tically switch depending on the tempera-
ture setting or the inside temperature.
