7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When trouble arises
Follow the procedure below to restart
the engine after the system is activated.
1 Turn the engine switch to ACCES-
SORY mode or turn it off.
2 Restart the engine.
Fuel pump shut off system
(LC500)
To minimize the risk of fuel leakage
when the engine stalls or when an
airbag inflates upon collision, the
fuel pump shut off system stops the
supply of fuel to the engine.
Restarting the engine
NOTICE
■Before starting the engine
Inspect the ground under the vehicle. If you find that fuel has leaked onto the ground, the fuel system has been dam-
aged and is in need of repair. Do not restart the engine.

The remaining charge for the hybrid battery (tr action battery) is low. As the hybrid battery
(traction battery) cannot be charged when the sh ift position is in N, when stopping the vehi- cle for a long period of time, shift the shift position to P.
■If “Traction Battery needs to be Protected Shift into P to Restart” is shown (LC500h)
The remaining charge for the hybrid battery (tr action battery) is low, because the shift posi- tion has been shifted to N for a long period of time. When moving the vehicle, shift the shift position to P and restart the hybrid system.
■If “Shift to P Before Exiting Vehicle” is shown
The driver’s door is opened without turning the engine switch <power switch> to off with the
shift position in any position other than P. Shift the shift position to P.
■If “Shift Is in N Release Accele rator Before Shifting” is shown
The accelerator pedal has been depressed when the shift position is in N. Release the accel-
erator pedal and shift the shift position to D or R.
■If “Depress Brake when Vehicle Is Stoppe d Hybrid System May Overheat” is shown (LC500h)
The message may be displayed when the accelerator pedal is depressed to hold the vehicle while the vehicle is stopped on an uphill etc. The hybrid system may overheat. Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.
■If “Shift system malfunction Driving unavailable” is shown

■If a message that indicates the need for the shift lever operation is shown
To prevent the shift lever from being operated incorrectly or the vehicle from moving unex- pectedly, a message that requires shifting the shift lever may be shown on the multi-informa-
tion display. In that case, follow the instru ction of the message and shift the shift lever.
■If “Front Camera Unavailable” or “Front Camera Vision Blocked Clean and Demist Windshield” is shown
The following systems may be suspended un til the problem shown in the message is resolved.

■If “Warming Up Maximum Vehicle Speed: 110km/h” is shown (LC500h)
The transmission is being warmed up and the ve hicle is unable to be driven over 110 km/h (65 mph). Wait until the transmission warms up.
■If “Stop the vehicle in a safe place Shift to P position” is shown (LC500h)
There may be a malfunction in the hybrid system or the shift position may be shifted to N for a long time. Immediately stop the vehicle and contact any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■If “Oil Maintenance Required Soon” is shown (LC500h)
The engine oil is scheduled to be changed. Check the engine oil, and change if necessary.
After changing the engine oil, the message should be reset. ( P.321)
■If “Engine Oil Level Low Add or Replace” is shown
The engine oil level is low. Check the level of engine oil, and add if necessary. This message
may appear if the vehicle is stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to a level surface and check to see if the message disappears.
■If a message that indicates the need for referring to Owner’s Manual is shown

●LC500h: If “Aux Battery Low” is shown, observe the following.
• If the message disappears in a few minutes*
Keep the hybrid system operating for more than approximately 15 minutes to charge the 12-volt battery.
• If the message does not disappear Refer to “If the 12-volt battery is discharged” ( P.392) to start the hybrid system*: It is displayed for approximately 6 seconds.
●If “Battery low” is shown, the 12-volt battery charge is insufficient. Recharge or replace the 12-volt battery.
●LC500h: If “Maintenance Required for Traction battery Cooling Parts” is shown, the fil- ters may be clogged, the air intake vents may be blocked, or there may be a gap in the
duct. Therefore, perform the following correction procedure. • If the air intake vents and filters of the hybrid battery (traction battery) are dirty, perform the procedure on P.309 to clean them.

WARNING
■After recharging the 12-volt battery
Have the 12-volt battery inspected at any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer as soon as possible. If the 12-volt battery is deteriorating, continued use may cause the 12-volt battery to emit a
malodorous gas, which may be detri- mental to the health of passengers.
■When exchanging the 12-volt battery
After exchanging, securely attach the exhaust hose and exhaust hole plug to
the exhaust hole of the exchanged 12- volt battery. If not properly installed, gases (hydrogen) may leak into the vehi-
cle interior, and there is the possible dan- ger of the gas igniting and exploding.
NOTICE
■When handling jumper cables
When connecting the jumper cables, ensure that they do not become entan-gled in the cooling fan or engine drive
belt.
■To prevent damaging the vehicle
The exclusive jump starting terminal is to be used when charging the 12-volt bat-tery from another vehicle in an emer-
gency. It cannot be used to jump start another vehicle.
If your vehi cle overheats
(LC500)
The following may indicate that
your vehicle is overheating.
 The engine coolant temperature
gauge ( P.88) is in the red zone
or a loss of engine power is expe-
rienced. (For example, the vehicle
speed does not increase.)
 “Engine Coolant Temp High” is
shown on the multi-information
display.
 Steam comes out from under the
hood.
