Fuel and Emission
Fuel-Filler Flap and Cap
WARNING
When removing the fuel-fi ller cap,
loosen the cap slightly and wait for any
hissing to stop, then remove it:
Fuel spray is dangerous. Fuel can
burn skin and eyes and cause illness
if ingested. Fuel spray is released
when there is pressure in the fuel tank
and the fuel-fi ller cap is removed too
quickly.
Before refuelling, stop the engine, and
always keep sparks and fl ames away
from the fi ller neck:
Fuel vapour is dangerous. It could be
ignited by sparks or fl ames causing
serious burns and injuries.
Additionally, use of the incorrect fuel-
fi ller cap or not using a fuel-fi ller cap
may result in a fuel leak, which could
result in serious burns or death in an
accident.
Do not continue refuelling after
the fuel pump nozzle shuts off
automatically:
Continuing to add fuel after the fuel
pump nozzle has shut off automatically
is dangerous because overfi lling the
fuel tank may cause fuel overfl ow or
leakage. Fuel overfl ow and leakage
could damage the vehicle and if the
fuel ignites it could cause a fi re and
explosion resulting in serious injury or
death.
CAUTION
Always use only a designated Mazda
fuel-fi ller cap or an approved equivalent,
available at an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer. The wrong cap can result in
a serious malfunction of the fuel and
emission control systems.
Fuel-Filler Flap
To open, pull the remote fuel-fi ller fl ap
release.
To close, press the fuel-fi ller fl ap until it
locks securely.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
CAUTION
  Each tyre, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold
and infl ated to the infl ation pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the
vehicle placard or tyre infl ation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tyres of a different
size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tyre infl ation pressure label, you
should determine the proper tyre infl ation pressure for those tyres.)
 As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tyre pressure
monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tyre pressure telltale when one or
more of your tyres is signifi cantly under-infl ated. Accordingly, when the low tyre
pressure telltale illuminates, you should stop and check your tyres as soon as possible,
and infl ate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a signifi cantly under-infl ated tyre
causes the tyre to overheat and can lead to tyre failure. Under-infl ation also reduces
fuel effi ciency and tyre tread life, and may affect the vehicle's handling and stopping
ability.
 Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tyre maintenance, and it is the
driver's responsibility to maintain correct tyre pressure, even if under-infl ation has not
reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tyre pressure telltale.
 Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate
when the system is not operating properly.
 The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tyre pressure telltale.
When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will fl ash for approximately
one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue
upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the
malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal
low tyre pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons,
including the installation of replacement or alternate tyres or wheels on the vehicle that
prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction
telltale after replacing one or more tyres or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the
replacement or alternate tyres and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function
properly.
  To avoid false readings, the system samples for a little while before indicating a
problem. As a result it will not instantaneously register a rapid tyre defl ation or blow
out.

e) Driving in mountainous conditions continually

Once the fl exible maintenance is selected, the vehicle calculates the remaining oil life based on engine operating
conditions and lets you know when an oil change is due by illuminating the wrench indicator light in the
instrument cluster.
Replace the engine oil and fi lter when message/wrench indicator light is ON. And they must be changed at least
once a year or within 20,000 km (12,500 miles) since last engine oil and fi lter change.
The system must be reset whenever replacing the engine oil regardless of the message/wrench indicator light
display.

and better fuel economy, always maintain
recommended tyre infl ation pressures and
stay within the recommended load limits
and weight distribution.
WARNING
Using Different Tyre Types:
Driving your vehicle with different
types of tyres is dangerous. It could
cause poor handling and poor braking;
leading to loss of control.
Except for the limited use of the
temporary spare tyre, use only the same
type tyres (radial, bias-belted, bias-type)
on all four wheels.
Using Wrong-Sized Tyres:
Using any other tyre size than what
is specifi ed for the vehicle (page 9-9 )
is dangerous. It could seriously affect
ride, handling, ground clearance,
tyre clearance, and speedometer
calibration. This could cause you to
have an accident. Use only tyres that
are the correct size specifi ed for the
vehicle.

Tyre Infl ation Pressure
WARNING
Always infl ate the tyres to the correct
pressure:
Overinfl ation or underinfl ation of tyres
is dangerous. Adverse handling or
unexpected tyre failure could result in
a serious accident.
Refer to Tyres on page 9-9 .
Use only a Mazda-genuine tyre valve
cap:
Use of a non-genuine part is dangerous
as the correct tyre air pressure cannot
be maintained if the tyre valve becomes
damaged. If the vehicle is driven under
this condition, the tyre air pressure
will decrease which could result in a
serious accident. Do not use any part
for the tyre valve cap that is not a
Mazda-genuine part.
Inspect all tyre pressures monthly
(including the spare
* ) when the tyres are
cold. Maintain recommended pressures for
the best ride, handling, and minimum tyre
wear.
Refer to the specifi cation charts (page
9-9 ).
(With tyre pressure monitoring system)
After adjusting the tyre pressure,
initialization of the tyre pressure
monitoring system is necessary to make
the system operate normally.
Refer to Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
Initialization on page 4-166 .
NOTE

 Always check tyre pressure when
tyres are cold.
  Warm tyres normally exceed
recommended pressures. Do not
release air from warm tyres to adjust
the pressure.
  Underinfl ation can cause reduced
fuel economy, uneven and
accelerated tyre wear, and poor
sealing of the tyre bead, which
will deform the wheel and cause
separation of tyre from rim.
  Overinfl ation can produce a harsh
ride, uneven and accelerated tyre
wear, and a greater possibility of
damage from road hazards.
 Keep your tyre pressure at the correct
levels. If one frequently needs
infl ating, have it inspected.
Tyre Rotation
WARNING
Rotate tyres periodically:
Irregular tyre wear is dangerous. To
equalize tread wear for maintaining
good performance in handling and
braking, rotate the tyres every 10,000
km (6,250 miles), or sooner if irregular
wear develops.
During rotation, inspect them for correct
balance.
