he vehicle is parked.
When the vehicle is connected to power supply
equipment, priority is given to charging the high-
voltage battery to a speciNed minimum charge.
The running time of pre-entry climate control may
be reduced under the following conditions:
= The vehicle is not connected to power supply
equipment. =
The high-v
oltage battery is not charged suP-
ciently.
With active pre-entry climate control, the charge
level of the high-voltage battery may be reduced,
even if the charging cable connector is connec-
ted.
For cooling, the following functions are activated
as needed:
= Automatic climate control

For heating, the following functions are activated

The following function is equipment-depend-

mode will automatically switch to heating
mode or heating mode will automatically
switch to ventilation mode.
The stationary heater and the exhaust gas outlet

cle conditions for a silent start are not met,
the vehicle will start with the combustion
engine.
% Depending on the system, it may be that even

hough the high-voltage battery is charged,
electric mode has restricted or no availability.
Once the combustion engine has been oper-
ated for long enough, electric mode will be
again available without restriction.
% To start the combustion engine, the high-volt-
ag

e battery can be used as a starter battery. 164

Characteristics with moderate power output
r
equests:
= The combustion engine is switched oM as
osen as possible during the journey.
= The vehicle can, depending on the drive pro-
gram selected and the state of charge of the
high-voltage battery, be accelerated electri-
cally up to speeds of approximately
140 km/h.
Characteristics with high power output requests:
= The electric motor supports the combustion
engine (boost eMect), e.g. when you pull away
or accelerate.
= The high-voltage battery is discharging.
Characteristics when the accelerator pedal is
released during the journey:
= The electric motor will be operated as an alter-
nator when in overrun mode and during brak-
ing.
= The high-voltage battery is charging. Notes on electric mode:
= V
ehicles with hybrid systems generate signiN-
cantly less noise when stationary and when
being driven than vehicles with combustion
engines.
= When you are driving in electric mode, the
vehicle may not be heard by other road users
due to the signiNcantly reduced noise gener-
ated.
It is for this reason that the vehicle is equip-
ped with a sound generator, which serves as
an acoustic vehicle alert system (AVAS).
= If not all the vehicle conditions for electric
mode are met, the combustion engine will be
switched on.
% Vehicles with diesel particulate Nlt
ers: during
the regeneration of the diesel particulate Nl-
ter, the drive programmes are not available or
are restricted and the charge level of the high-
voltage battery may change.
Notes on the acoustic vehicle alert system:
= The sound g

enerator generates speed-depend-
ent vehicle noise emissions when the vehicle is driving forwards or reversing at a speed of
up t

o around 30 km/h.
= This helps other road users, particularly
pedestrians and cyclists, to hear your vehicle
better.
= When you drive at speeds above 20 km/h the
acoustic vehicle alert system will gradually
switch oM.
= The sound generator will be oM when the vehi-
cle is stationary.
Manual disconnection of the high-voltage on-
board electrical system &

the high-voltage on-board electrical sys-
tem
The vehicle's high-voltage on-board electrical
sy
stem is under high voltage. If you modify
component parts in the vehicle's high-voltage
on-board electrical system or touch damaged
component parts, you may be electrocuted. In
addition, modiNed and/or damaged compo-
nents may cause a Nre. Driving and parking

In the event of an accident or impact to the
v ehicle underbody, components of the high-
voltage electrical system may be damaged
although the damage is not visible. 
Never make any modiNcations t
