Notes on removing an emergency spare wheel
( pag

Oiled or greased wheel bolts can cause the
wheel bolts t
o come loose, as too can dam-
aged wheel bolts or wheel hub threads. 
Never oil or grease the threads. 
In the event of damage to the threads,

Have the damaged wheel bolts or dam-
ag

ed hub threads replaced. 
Do not continue driving. 
Observe the information on the choice of tyres

e 379).
For tyres with a speciNed dir
ection of rotation, an
arrow on the side wall of the tyre indicates the
correct direction of rotation. Observe the direc-
tion of rotation when Ntting. 
Slide the wheel to be mounted onto the cen-
tr
ing pin and push it on.

wheel bolts and nuts
If you tighten the wheel bolts or wheel nuts
when t
he vehicle is raised, the jack could tip. 
Only tighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts
when t

he vehicle is on the ground. 
Observe the instructions and safety notes on
"Changing a wheel"

( page 379). 
For safety reasons, only use wheel bolts which
ha

ve been approved by Mercedes-Benz and
for the wheel in question. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated until they are
Nnger-tight. 
Unscrew and remove the centring pin. 
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is Nng
er-
tight.

before lowering the vehicle. 
To lower the vehicle: place t
he ratchet onto
the hexagon nut of the jack so that the letters
"AB" are visible and turn anti-clockwise. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
an initial maximum force of 80 Nm. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
the speciNed tightening torque of 130 Nm. &

bolts or wheel nuts ar

The wheel or tyre size and the tyre type of the
emer
gency spare wheel or spare wheel and
the wheel to be replaced may diMer. The emer-
gency spare wheel or spare wheel can signiN-
cantly impair driving characteristics of the
vehicle.
To prevent hazardous situations: 
Drive carefully. 
Never Nt mor
e than one emergency
spare wheel or spare wheel that diMers
in size. 
Only use an emergency spare wheel or
spar
e wheel brieOy. 
Do not deactivate ESP n
. 
Have the emergency spare wheel or
spar

e wheel of a diMerent size replaced
at the nearest qualiNed specialist work- Wheels and tyres

shop. The new wheel must have the cor-
r
ect dimensions. %
The emergency spare wheel is secured in the
emer
gency spare wheel bag in the load com-
partment.
Observe the following notes on removing an emer-
g
ency spare wheel:
= Before stowing the emergency spare wheel,
make sure there is no air les in the tyre.
If necessary, allow the air to escape.
= To release air from the tyre: remove the valve
cap of the tyre.
= Press down the metal insert in the valve using
a pointed object, e.g. a pen.
= Screw the valve cap onto the valve.
Observe the following notes on Ntting an emer-
gency spare wheel:
= The maximum permissible speed with an
emergency spare wheel Ntted is 80 km/h.
= Do not Nt the emergency spare wheel with
snow chains. =
R
eplace the emergency spare wheel aser six
years at the latest, regardless of wear.
= Use the wheel bolts that are included with the
emergency spare wheel.
= Check the tyre pressure of the emergency
spare wheel Ntted. Correct the pressure as
necessary.
% The speciNed tyr
e pressure is stated on the
label of the emergency spare wheel.
% Vehicles with a tyre pressure loss warning
sy
stem: if an emergency spare wheel is Ntted,
the tyre pressure loss warning system cannot
function reliably. Only restart the system
again when the emergency spare wheel has
been replaced with a new wheel.
Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
tem: if an emergency spare wheel is Ntted, the
tyre pressure monitoring system cannot func-
tion reliably. For a few minutes aser an emer-
gency spare wheel is Ntted, the system may
still display the tyre pressure of the removed
wheel. Only restart the system again when the
emergency spare wheel has been replaced
with a new wheel. Be sure to also observe the following further rela-

Remove the sticker with the label 80 km/h
fr
om the tyre inOation compressor housing
and aPx it to the instrument cluster within the
driver's Neld of vision. 
Remove the tyre inOation com
pressor from the
stowage space under the luggage compart-
ment Ooor. (  page 356, 355) 
Pull Nller hose 1 and plug 3 out of t
he tyre
inOation compressor housing. 
Insert plug 7 of Nller hose 1 in t
he socket
on the tyre inOation compressor and then turn
it until plug 7 engages. 
Unscrew the cap from the valve on the emer-
g
ency spare wheel. 
Screw union nut 2 of Nller hose 1 ont
o the
valve. 
Make sure on and oM switc
h 4 of the tyre
inOation compressor is set to 0. 
Insert plug 3 in a soc
ket in your vehicle.

Press the start/stop button once to switch on

he power supply (  page 167).

The tyre inOation compressor is switched on.
The tyre is inOated. The tyre pressure appears
on manometer 5. 
Pump the tyre to the speciNed tyr
e pressure.%
The speciNed tyr
e pressure is stated on the
label of the emergency spare wheel. 
When the speciNed tyr
e pressure has been
reached, press on and oM switch 4 on the
tyre inOation compressor to 0.
The tyre inOation compressor is switched oM. 
Press the start/stop button to switch oM t
he
power supply. 
If the tyre pressure is higher than the speciNed
pr
essure, press pressure release valve button
6 until the correct tyre pressure has been
reached. 
Unscrew union nut 2 of Nller hose 1 fr
om
the valve. 
Screw the valve cap of the emergency spare
wheel ont

o the valve again. 
Stow Nller hose 1 and plug 3 in t
he lower
section of the tyre inOation compressor hous-
ing.

Observe the following notes on Ntting an emer

gency spare wheel:
= The collapsible spare wheel is an emergency
spare wheel which is only suitable for use for a
limited period of time and in a restricted man-
ner in the event of a Oat tyre (e.g. until the
nearest workshop).
= The tyre sidewalls are folded when in trans-
port mode. Before using the collapsible spare
wheel, inOate it using the accompanying com-
pressor.
= Check the tyre pressure of the collapsible
spare wheel once Ntted and, if necessary,
adjust.
= The maximum permissible speed with a col-
lapsible spare wheel Ntted is 80 km/h. =

with a new wheel.

from the two-way radios can interfere with the
vehicle electronics and jeopardise the operat-
ing safety of the vehicle. 
You should have all work on electrical

improper operation of two-way radios
If you use two-way radios in the vehicle
im
properly, their electromagnetic radiation
can disrupt the vehicle's electronics. This is
the case in the following situations, in particu-
lar:
= The two-way radio is not connected to an
exterior aerial.
= The exterior aerial is Ntted incorrectly or is
not a low-reOection aerial.
This could jeopardise the operating safety of
the vehicle. 
Have the lo
w-reOection exterior aerial Nt-
ted at a qualiNed specialist workshop. 
When operating two-way radios in the

ehicle, always connect them to the low-
reOection exterior aerial. 394
