Notes on noise or unusual handling characteris-
tics
Mak
e sure there are no vibrations, noises or
unusual handling characteristics when the vehicle
is in motion. This may indicate that the wheels or
tyres are damaged. Hidden tyre damage could
also be causing the unusual handling characteris-
tics.
If you suspect that a tyre is defective, reduce your
speed immediately and have the tyres and wheels
checked at a qualiNed specialist workshop. Notes on regularly inspecting wheels and tyres

Check the tyres regularly for signs of

The risk of aquaplaning is increased on wet
roads, especially when the speed of the vehi-
cle is not adapted to suit the conditions. 
Thus, you should regularly check the
tr

ead depth and the condition of the
tread across the entire width of all tyres.
Minimum tread depth for:
= Summer tyr

es: 3 mm
= M+S tyres: 4 mm 
For safety reasons, replace the tyres
bef
ore the legally-prescribed limit for the
minimum tread depth is reached. Carry out the following checks on all wheels regu-
lar
ly, at least once a month or as required, for
example, prior to a long journey or driving oM-
road:
= Check the tyre pressure (  page 369).=
V
isually inspect wheels and tyres for damage.
= Check the valve caps.
= Visual check of the tyre tread depth and the
tyre contact surface across the entire width.
The minimum tread depth for summer tyres is

have been speciNcally approved for your vehi-
cle by Mercedes-Benz, or snow chains with
the same quality standard.
= If snow chains are Ntted, the maximum per-
missible speed is 50 km/h.
= Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: do not use
Active Parking Assist when snow chains are
Ntted.

= The driving characteristics as well as the
steering and braking characteristics may
be greatly impaired.

all tyres, including the spare wheel, regu-

The wheels, valves or tyres could be damaged.

oo low a tyre pressure can lead to the tyres
bursting. 
Examine the tyres for foreign objects. 
Check whether the tyre has a puncture
or t

he valve has a leak. 
If you are unable to rectify the damage,

or the vehicle's factory-Ntted tyres can be found
on the tyre pressure table on the inside of the fuel
Nller Oap ( page 370).
Use a suitable pressure gauge to check the tyre
pressure. The outer appearance of a tyre does not
permit any reliable conclusion about the tyre pres-
sure.
Only correct tyre pressures when the tyres are
cold. Conditions for cold tyres:
= The vehicle has been parked with the tyres out
of direct sunlight for at least three hours.
= The vehicle has travelled less than 1.6 km.
The vehicle's tyres heat up when driving. As the
temperature of the tyres increases, so too does
the tyre pressure.
Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring system:
you can also check the tyre pressure using the
on-board computer ( page 371).
Notes on trailer operation
Always inOate the rear axle tyres to the recom-
mended tyre pressures on the tyre pressure table
for increased load. Tyre pressure table
The tyre pressure table is on the inside of the fuel
Nller Oap. The tyre pressure table shows the recommended
tyr

e pressure for all tyres approved for this vehi-
cle. The recommended tyre pressures apply for
cold tyres under various operating conditions, i.e.
loading and/or speed of the vehicle. 370

If one or more tyre sizes precede a tyre pressure,
t he following tyre pressure information is only
valid for those tyre sizes and their respective load
condition.
If the preceding tyre sizes are complemented by

Compare the tyre pressure with the recom-
mended tyr
e pressure for the current operat-
ing condition ( page 370). Additionally,
observe the notes on cold tyres

% The values displayed in the on-board com-
put

er may deviate from those of the tyre pres-
sure gauge as they refer to sea level. At high
elevations, the tyre pressure values indicated
by a pressure gauge are higher than those
shown by the on-board computer. In this case,
do not reduce the tyre pressure.
Restarting the tyre pressure monitoring system

equirements:
= The recommended tyre pressure is correctly
set for the respective operating status on all of
the wheels (  page 369).
Restart the tyre pressure monitoring system in the
following situations: = The tyre pressure has changed. =
The wheels or tyr
es have been changed or
newly Ntted.

Current warning messages are deleted and
the yellow w warning lamp goes out.
Aser you have been driving for a few minutes,
the system checks whether the current tyre
pressures are within the speciNed range. The
current tyre pressures are then accepted as
reference values and monitored.

Function of the tyre pressure loss warning system
The tyr
e pressure loss warning system warns the
driver by means of display messages when there
is a severe tyre pressure loss.
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
particularly in the following situations:
= incorrect reference values were taught in
= sudden pressure loss caused by a foreign
object penetrating the tyre, for example
= an even pressure loss on more than one tyre
occurs
The system has a restricted or delayed function
particularly in the following situations:
= poor ground conditions, e.g. snow or gravel
= driving with snow chains
= when adopting a very sporty driving style with
high cornering speeds or sudden acceleration
= driving with a very heavy or large trailer
= driving with a high load 372

The tyre pressure loss warning system is only an
aid. It is t he driver's responsibility to set the tyre
pressure to the recommended cold tyre pressure
suitable for the operating situation and to check
it.
Be sure to also observe the following further rela-

Restarting the tyre pressure loss warning system
Requirements: = The recommended tyre pressure is correctly
set for the respective operating status on all
wheels.
Restart the tyre pressure loss warning system in
the following situations:
= The tyre pressure has changed.
= The wheels or tyres have been changed or

Aser you have driven for a few minutes, the

These tyres are specially adapted to the active
safety systems, such as ABS, ESP n

4MATIC, and marked as follows:
= MO = Mercedes-Benz Original
= MOE = Mercedes-Benz Original Extended
(run-Oat tyres only for certain wheels)
= MO1 = Mercedes-Benz Original (only cer-
tain AMG tyres)
Otherwise, certain properties, such as han-
dling characteristics, vehicle noise emissions,
consumption, etc. could be adversely aMec-
ted. Furthermore, other tyre sizes could result
in the tyres rubbing against the body and axle
components when loaded. This could result in
damage to the tyre or the vehicle. Only use tyres, wheels and accessories that
ha

ve been checked and recommended by
Mercedes-Benz. *

The special tyre tread in combination with the
op
timised tyre compound means that the risk
of skidding and hydroplaning on wet roads is
increased.
In addition, the tyre grip is greatly reduced at
a low outside temperature and tyre running
temperature.

ing style accordingly. 
Use M M+S
tyres at outside tempera-
tures of less than 10 °C. 
Only use the tyres for their intended pur-
pose. Observe the following when selecting,
Ntting and

eplacing tyres:
= Country-speciNc requirements for tyre
approval that deNne a speciNc tyre type for
your vehicle. Wheels and tyres

F urthermore, the use of certain tyre types in
certain regions and areas of operation can be
highly beneNcial.
= Only use tyres and wheels of the same type
(summer tyres, winter tyres, MOExtended
tyres) and the same make.
= Only Nt wheels of the same size on one axle
(les and right).
It is only permissible to Nt a diMerent wheel
size in the event of a Oat tyre in order to drive
to the specialist workshop.
= Do not make any modiNcations to the brake
system, the wheels or the tyres.
The use of shims or brake dust shields is not
permitted and may invalidate the vehicle's
general operating permit.
= Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
tem: all Ntted wheels must be equipped with
functioning sensors for the tyre pressure mon-
itoring system.
= At temperatures below 7 °C use winter tyres
or all-season tyres marked M M+S for all
wheels. Winter tyres provide the best possible grip in
wintr
y road conditions.
= For M+S tyres, only use tyres with the same
tread.
= Observe the maximum permissible speed for
the M+S tyres Ntted.
If the tyre's maximum speed is below that of
the vehicle, this must be indicated by an
appropriate label in the driver's Neld of vision.
= Run in new tyres at moderate speeds for the
Nrst 100 km.
= Replace the tyres aser six years at the latest,
regardless of wear.
= When replacing with tyres that do not feature
run-Oat characteristics: vehicles with
MOExtended tyres are not equipped with a
TIREFIT kit at the factory. Equip the vehicle
with a TIREFIT kit aser replacing with tyres
that do not feature run-Oat characteristics,
e.g. winter tyres.

Interchanging the front and rear wheels can

verely impair the driving characteristics.
The disk brakes or wheel suspension compo-
nents may also be damaged. 
Only interchange the front and rear
wheels if t

Interchanging the front and rear wheels if the
wheels or tyr
es have diMerent dimensions can
render the general operating permit invalid.
Observe the instructions and safety notes on
"Changing a wheel" ( page 373)
The wear patterns on the front and rear wheels
diMer:
= front wheels wear more on the tyre shoulder
= rear wheels wear more in the centre of the
tyre
Do not drive with tyres that have too little tread
depth. This signiNcantly reduces traction on wet
roads (aquaplaning).
On vehicles with the same front and rear wheel
size, you can interchange the wheels every
5,000 to 10,000 km, depending on the wear.
Ensure the direction of rotation is maintained for
the wheels. Notes on storing wheels
When storing wheels, observe the following notes:

For more information on which tyre-changing
tools are required and approved for performing a
wheel change on your vehicle, consult a qualiNed
specialist workshop.
You require the following tools, forexample, to
change a wheel:

% The jack weighs approximately 3.4 kg.
The maximum load capacity of t

The jack is maintenance-free. If there is a
malfunction, please contact a qualiNed spe-

The tyre-change tool kit is located in tool bag 1

he boot.
