&
WARNING Risk of injur y through exceed-
ing the speciNed tyre load-bearing capa-
city or the permissible speed rating
Exceeding the load-bearing capacity of the
tyr
es can lead to tyre damage and could cause
the tyres to explode.
Therefore, only use tyre types and sizes
appr

oved for your vehicle model.
Observe the tyre load-bearing capacity
r

ating and speed rating required for your
vehicle. *
NOTE V
ehicle and tyre damage caused by
non-approved tyre types and sizes For safety reasons, only use tyres, wheels and
accessor

ies which have been specially
approved by Mercedes-Benz for your vehicle.
These tyres are specially adapted to the active
safety systems, such as ABS, ESP n
and
4MATIC, and marked as follows:
= MO = Mercedes-Benz Original =
MOE = Mer
cedes-Benz Original Extended
(run-Oat tyres only for certain wheels)
= MO1 = Mercedes-Benz Original (only cer-
tain AMG tyres)
Otherwise, certain properties, such as han-
dling characteristics, vehicle noise emissions,
consumption, etc. could be adversely aMec-
ted. Furthermore, other tyre sizes could result
in the tyres rubbing against the body and axle
components when loaded. This could result in
damage to the tyre or the vehicle.
Only use tyres, wheels and accessories that
have been checked and recommended by
Mercedes-Benz. *
NOTE Risk t
o driving safety from retrea-
ded tyres Retreaded tyres are neither tested nor recom-
mended b

y Mercedes-Benz, since previous
damage cannot always be detected on retrea-
ded tyres.
For this reason driving safety cannot be guar-
anteed.
Do not use used tyres if you have no
inf
ormation about their previous usage. *
NOTE P
ossible wheel and tyre damage
when driving over obstacles Large wheels have a smaller section width. As
t

he section width decreases, the risk of
wheels and tyres being damaged when driving
over obstacles increases.
Avoid obstacles or drive especially care-
full

y.
Reduce your speed when driving over
k

erbs, speed bumps, manhole covers
and potholes.
Avoid particularly high kerbs. *
NOTE P
ossible wheel and tyre damage
when parking on kerbs or in potholes Parking on kerbs or in potholes can damage
t
he wheels and tyres.
Only park on level surfaces if possible.
Avoid kerbs and potholes when parking. 388

NOTE Damag e to electronic component
parts due to the use of tyre-Ntting tools Vehicles with tyre pressure monitoring sys-
t

em: there are electronic component parts in
the wheel.
If tyre-Ntting tools are positioned in the area of
the valve, the electronic components could be
damaged.
Tyre-Ntting t
ools should not be applied in
the area of the valve.
Always have tyres changed at a q
ualiNed
specialist workshop. *
NOTE Damag
e to summer tyres at low
ambient temperatures At low ambient temperatures, tears could form
when dr

iving with summer tyres, causing per-
manent damage to the tyre.
At temperatures below 7 °C use M
M+S

tyres. Accessory parts which are not approved for your
v
ehicle by Mercedes-Benz, or which are not used
correctly, can impair the operating safety.
Before purchasing and using non-approved acces-
sories, visit a qualiNed specialist workshop and
enquire about:
= Suitability
= Legal stipulations
= Factory recommendations &
WARNING Risk of accident wit
h high per-
formance tyres
The special tyre tread in combination with the
op
timised tyre compound means that the risk
of skidding and hydroplaning on wet roads is
increased.
In addition, the tyre grip is greatly reduced at
a low outside temperature and tyre running
temperature.
Switch on the ESP n
and adap
t your driv-
ing style accordingly.
Use M M+S
tyres at outside tempera-
tures of less than 10 °C.
Only use the tyres for their intended pur-
pose. Observe the following when selecting,
Ntting and
r
eplacing tyres:
= Country-speciNc requirements for tyre
approval that deNne a speciNc tyre type for
your vehicle.
= Furthermore, the use of certain tyre types in
certain regions and areas of operation can be
highly beneNcial.
= Only use tyres and wheels of the same type
(summer tyres, winter tyres, MOExtended
tyres) and the same make.
= Only Nt wheels of the same size on one axle
(les and right).
It is only permissible to Nt a diMerent wheel
size in the event of a Oat tyre in order to drive
to the specialist workshop.
= Do not make any modiNcations to the brake
system, the wheels or the tyres. Wheels and tyres
389

The use of shims or brake dust shields is not
per mitted and may invalidate the vehicle's
general operating permit.
= Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
tem: all Ntted wheels must be equipped with
functioning sensors for the tyre pressure mon-
itoring system.
= At temperatures below 7 °C use winter tyres
or all-season tyres marked M M+S for all
wheels.
Winter tyres provide the best possible grip in
wintry road conditions.
= For M+S tyres, only use tyres with the same
tread.
= Observe the maximum permissible speed for
the M+S tyres Ntted.
If the tyre's maximum speed is below that of
the vehicle, this must be indicated by an
appropriate label in the driver's Neld of vision.
= Run in new tyres at moderate speeds for the
Nrst 100 km.
= Replace the tyres aser six years at the latest,
regardless of wear. =
When r eplacing with tyres that do not feature
run-Oat characteristics: vehicles with
MOExtended tyres are not equipped with a
TIREFIT kit at the factory. Equip the vehicle
with a TIREFIT kit aser replacing with tyres
that do not feature run-Oat characteristics,
e.g. winter tyres.
% You can permanently limit the maximum
speed f

or driving with winter tyres
( page 240).
For more information on wheels and tyres, con-
t
act a qualiNed specialist workshop.
Be sure to also observe the following further rela-
ted subjects: = Notes on tyre pressure ( page 383)
= Tyre pressure table ( page 384)
= Notes on the emergency spare wheel
( page 397) Notes on interchanging wheels
&
WARNING Risk of injur
y through diMerent
wheel sizes
Interchanging the front and rear wheels can
se
verely impair the driving characteristics.
The disk brakes or wheel suspension compo-
nents may also be damaged.
Only interchange the front and rear
wheels if t
he wheels and tyres have the
same dimensions. Interchanging the front and rear wheels if the
wheels or tyr

es have diMerent dimensions can
render the general operating permit invalid.
Observe the instructions and safety notes on
"Changing a wheel"
( page 387)
The wear patterns on the front and rear wheels
diMer:
= front wheels wear more on the tyre shoulder
= rear wheels wear more in the centre of the
tyre 390
Wheels and tyres

Do not drive with tyres that have too little tread
dep
th. This signiNcantly reduces traction on wet
roads (aquaplaning).
On vehicles with the same front and rear wheel
size, you can interchange the wheels every
5,000 to 10,000 km, depending on the wear.
Ensure the direction of rotation is maintained for
the wheels. Notes on storing wheels
When storing wheels, observe the following notes:
= Aser r

emoving wheels, store them in a cool,
dry and preferably dark place.
= Protect the tyres from contact with oil, grease
or fuel. Overview of the tyre-change tool kit
