Function oftheradar sensors
Some driving and driving safety systems useradar sensorstomonitorthe area in front of,behind or nexttothevehicle (depending onthevehicle's equipment).
Depending onthevehicle's equipment,theradarsensors are integrated behindthe bumpersand/or behindthe Mercedesstar.Keeptheseparts free of dirt, ice and slush(page 364). The sensors must not be cov‐ered,forexamplebycycleracks,overhangingloads,stickers,foil orfoilstoprotect againststonechipping. Intheevent of damagetothebumpers orradiator grill, orfollowing a collisionimpactingthe bumpers orradiator grill, havethefunction oftheradar sensorschecked at aquali‐fied specialistworkshop. The driver assistancesystem may no longerworkproperly.

IfActive Lane ChangeAssisthas been activated withthe turn signalindicator but a lanechange is not immediatelypossible, a grayarrow1appears nexttothesteering wheel symbol, whichremains green.
Whenthe lanechange assistancestarts,the turnsignal indicator is automatically activated besidethe display inthe multifunction display.
Ifthe assistance graphic is shown whenchang‐ing lanes,the lanechange display appears with

If a lanechange is not possible,the arrow fadesout after afew seconds and a new lanechangemust be initiated. An immediate lanechange isonly possible on freeway sections without speedlimits.
