Notes on the correct driver\bs seat position&WARNING Risk of accident due to adjust-
ing the vehicle settings while the vehicle is
in motion
You could lose control of the vehicle in the fol-
lowing situations in particular:
= If you adjust the driver\bs seat, the head
restraint, the steering wheel or the mirror while the vehicle is in motion
= If you fasten your seat belt while the vehi-
cle is in motion
Before starting the vehicle: in particular,
adjust the driver\bs seat, head restraint,
steering wheel and mirror, and fasten
your seat belt.
Ensure the following when adjusting steering
wheel 1, seat belt 2 and driver\bs seat 3:
= You are sitting as far away from the driver\bs
airbag as possible, taking the following points
into consideration:
= You are sitting in an upright position
= Your thighs are slightly supported by the seat
cushion
= Your legs are not fully extended and you can
depress the pedals properly
= The back of your head is supported at eye
level by the center of the head restraint
= You can hold the steering wheel with your
arms slightly bent
= You can move your legs freely
= You can see all the displays on the driver\bs dis-
play clearly
= You have a good overview of the traPc condi-
tions
= Observe the notes on correctly fastening the
seatbelt (  page 35).
Notes on grab handles
&WARNING Risk of injury due to excessive
load on the grab handles
If you apply your full body weight to the grab
handle or pull it abruptly, the grab handle may be damaged or come loose from its anchor-
age. This may result in injuries.

Use the grab handles only to stabilize theseating position or to assist in getting in
and out of the seat.

Adjusting the front seat mechanically
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the
seats are adjusted by children
Children could become trapped if they adjust
the seats, particularly when unattended.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.Never leave children unattended in thevehicle.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
adjusting the seat
When you adjust a seat, you or other vehicle
occupants could become trapped, e.g. on the
seat guide rail.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any part of their body within
the sweep of the seat.Observe the safety notes on "Air bags" and "Chil-
dren in the vehicle".&WARNING Risk of accident due to the
driver\bs seat not being engaged
The driver\bs seat may move unexpectedly
while driving.
This could cause you to lose control of the
vehicle.
Always make sure that the driver\bs seat
is engaged before starting the vehicle.&WARNING Risk of accident due to adjust-
ing the vehicle settings while the vehicle is
in motion
You could lose control of the vehicle in the fol-
lowing situations in particular:
= If you adjust the driver\bs seat, the head
restraint, the steering wheel or the mirror while the vehicle is in motion
= If you fasten your seat belt while the vehi-
cle is in motion

seat height is adjusted carelessly
If you adjust the seat height carelessly, you or
other vehicle occupants could be trapped and
thereby injured.

Children in particular could accidentally press
the electrical seat adjustment buttons and
become trapped.While moving the seats, make sure that hands or other body parts do not get
under the lever assembly of the seat adjustment system.&WARNING Risk of injury due to head
restraints not being installed or being
adjusted incorrectly
If head restraints have not been installed or
have not been adjusted correctly, there is an increased risk of injury in the head and neck
area, e.g. in the event of an accident or when
braking.
Always drive with the head restraints
installed.Before driving oM, make sure for every
vehicle occupant that the center of the
head restraint supports the back of the
head at about eye level.Adjust the head restraint fore-and-as position so
that it is as close as possible to the back of your head.&WARNING Risk of injury or death due to
an incorrect seat position
The seat belt does not oMer the intended level
of protection if you have not moved the seat backrest to an almost vertical position.
In particular, you could slip beneath the seat- belt and become injured.
Adjust the seat properly before begin-
ning your journey.Always ensure that the seat backrest is
in an almost vertical position and that
the shoulder belt is routed across the
center of your shoulder.&WARNING Risk of potentially fatal injuries
due to objects trapped under the front
passenger seat
Objects trapped under the front passenger seat may interfere with the function of the
automatic front passenger air bag shutoM or
damage the system.Do not stow any objects under the front
passenger seat.When the front passenger seat is occu-
pied, ensure that no objects have
become trapped beneath the front
passenger seat.&WARNING Risk of injury due to excessive

When adjusting the seats, make sure
that there are no objects in the footwell,
under or behind the seats.To adjust the seat fore-and-as position: lis
lever 1 and slide the seat into the desired
position.Make sure that the seat is engaged.To adjust the seat height: push or pull lever 2
until the desired seat height has been
reached.To set the seat backrest inclination: rotate
handwheel 3 forwards or backwards until
the required position has been reached.
Adjusting the front seat electrically
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the
seats are adjusted by children
Children could become trapped if they adjust
the seats, particularly when unattended.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.Never leave children unattended in thevehicle.You can adjust the seats when the vehicle is

The seats may be damaged by objects when
adjusting the seats.
When adjusting the seats, make sure
that there are no objects in the footwell,

The switches for adjusting the seats do not move. You will therefore receive no direct feedback on
the switch while pressing the switch. Feedback is provided only by the movement of the seat.

Vehicles with manual and electric seat adjustmentTake hold of the head restraint on both sides and press release knob 1.
The head restraint will be unlocked in all direc-
tions of movement simultaneously.To raise or lower: pull the head restraint
upwards or push it downwards.To move forwards or backwards: pull the head
restraint forwards or push it backwards.Let go of release knob 1.Vehicles with electric seat adjustmentTo raise or lower: adjust the head restraint
using the buttons on the door operating unit
(  page 92).To move forwards or backwards: take hold of
the head restraint on both sides and press

qInstalling/removing the rear seat head
restraints
Removing
You can remove the head restraints only in vehi- cles with folding rear seat backrests.Release the rear seat backrest and fold it for-
wards slightly (  page 109).Press release knob 2 and pull the head
restraint upwards as far as it will go. Release knob 1 will extend.Push both release knobs 1 and 2 at the
same time in the direction of the arrow and
pull out the head restraint.Fold the rear seat backrest back until it
engages.
Installing
Release the rear seat backrest and fold it for-
wards slightly (  page 109).Insert the head restraint such that the notches
on the bar are on the les when viewed in the
direction of travel.Push the head restraint down until it engages.Fold the rear seat backrest back until it
engages.ConNguring the seat settings

Adjusting the air cushions
In the corresponding menu, adjust the air cushions for Lumbar or Side Bolsters .
Setting automatic seat adjustment
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped dur-
ing adjustment of the driver\bs seat aser
calling up a driver proNle
Selecting a user proNle may trigger an adjust-
ment of the driver\bs seat to the position saved
under the user proNle. You or other vehicle
occupants could be injured in the process.
Make sure that when the position of driv-
er\bs seat is being adjusted using the mul-
timedia system, no people or body parts
are in the seat\bs range of movement.Seats and stowing97

If a person is in danger of becoming trapped,
immediately stop the adjustment process by:a) Tapping the warning message on the
central display.
or
b) Pressing a position button of the memory function or a seat adjustment
switch in the driver\bs door.
The adjustment process is stopped.

5 Automatic Seat Positioning
Manually adjusting driver\bs seat and steering
wheel position to body size
The vehicle calculates a suitable driver\bs seat and steering wheel position on the basis of the driver\bsbody size and sets this directly.
To set the unit of measurement: select cm or
ft/in .Set the size using the scale.Select Start Positioning .
The driver\bs seat and steering wheel position
is adjusted to the body size that has been set.\bYou can also conNgure these settings via the
Mercedes me user account for your user pro-
Nle. By synchronizing the proNles in the vehi-
cle and the Mercedes me connect proNles,
you can carry over these settings for your vehicle. Further information about synchroniz-
ing user proNles .\bIf the driver\bs seat and steering wheel position
calculated by the vehicle is not practical or
comfortable, it can be manually adapted at
any time via the control buttons.
The outside mirrors are not set via this func-
tion. Instead, they have to be set manually via
the operating switches.
Overview of relaxation program
= Classic Massage : Back relaxation
= Mobilizing Massage Mobilizing relaxation pro-
gram with upward-moving relaxing waves. Can promote slower, deeper respiration. This can
improve the supply of oxygen to cells and the
brain.
= Activating Massage : Activating relaxation with
upward-moving relaxing waves
= Relaxing Massage : Back relaxation with
increasing wave motions and then soothing movements
= Deep Waves : Wave-like movements in the
cushion can promote blood Oow and meta-
bolic processes in the lower back and legs
= Deep Workout : Wave-like movements in the
cushion are combined with wave movements from the backrest and can stimulate blood cir-
culation and metabolism in the lower back, buttocks and legs\bThe Depth waves and Deep workout program
are available only for the driver\bs seat.
