Notes on climate control
An interior Nlter in combination with the preNlter
in the engine compartment must always be used so that the air conditioning system, pollution levelmonitoring and the air Nltration work correctly.
Use Nlters recommended and approved by
Mercedes-Benz. Always have maintenance work
carried out at a qualiNed specialist workshop.
Please note that your vehicle may not be equip-
ped with all functions described here.
Overview of the THERMATIC climate bar (dual-
zone)

The A/C function heats, cools and dehumidiNes
the vehicle\bs interior air.
Press the Z button.
Switch oM the A/C function only brieOy; other-
wise, the windows may fog up more quickly.
Condensation may drip from the underside of the vehicle when cooling mode is active. This is not
indicative of a malfunction.
Calling up the air conditioning menu via the cli- mate bar or the air conditioning control panel
The air conditioning menu can be called up via the
climate bar. The climate bar is always shown on
the lower edge of the central display.
Select the Climate Menu entry in the climate
bar.
The First Row of Seats menu is opened.Defrosting the windshield via the climate bar

Depending on the external conditions, improved
cooling and dehumidiNcation of the interior air are
supported when the A/C function is activated. If it is not possible to operate the A/C function on

the climate bar on the central display, switch the
function on or oM in the climate menu of the cen-
tral display.Select A/C (A/C).
Setting climate control to automatic mode
In automatic mode, the set vehicle interior tem-
perature is controlled automatically and main-
tained at a constant level by the air supply.
Press AUTO on the climate bar on the central
display.\bYou can increase or reduce the airOow by
pressing

The synchronization function controls the climate control centrally. The driver\bs settings for temper-ature, airOow and air distribution are automatically
adopted for each climate zone.
Select SYNC (SYNC).
Defrosting the windows
Windows fogged up on the inside
Press X on the climate bar on the central
display.If the windows remain fogged up: press d
on the climate bar on the central display.
Windows fogged up on the outside
Switch on the windshield wipers.Switching air-recirculation mode on/oM via the
multimedia system
Requirements
= The THERMOTRONIC air conditioning control
panel is available.

The interior air will be recirculated.
Air-recirculation mode will automatically switch to
fresh air mode aser a while.
\bIf air-recirculation mode is switched on, the
windows may fog up more quickly. Switch on
air-recirculation mode only brieOy.

Press r on the climate bar on the central
display.
The interior air will be recirculated.Air-recirculation mode will automatically switch to
fresh air mode aser a while.\bIf air-recirculation mode is switched on, the
windows may fog up more quickly. Switch on
air-recirculation mode only brieOy.
Switching residual heat mode on/oM via the cli-
mate bar
Requirements
= The residual heat function is available.
= The vehicle is parked.
= The coolant temperature is suPciently high.
It is possible to make use of the residual heat from the engine to continue heating or ventilating
the front compartment of the vehicle for approx- imately 30 minutes, depending on the tempera-
ture set.
To switch on or oM: select Residual Heat on
the climate bar of the central display.
The residual heat function will automatically
switch oM aser some time.

\bIf residual engine heat utilization is activated,
the two buttons for setting the temperature
and air distribution will automatically be deac-
tivated.
Activating/deactivating ionization

Air Quality
Only vehicles with THERMATIC (2-zone) or THERMOTRONIC air conditioning control panelhave this function.
Ionization improves the quality of the vehicle\bs interior air. Ionization of the interior air is odor-
less.
Select Ionization .\bThe function can only be performed if the
AUTO mode is activated or the air distribution is set to the side air vent. The function isrestricted if the side air vents on the driver\bsside are closed.Fragrance system

using the multimedia system
Requirements: = Automatic climate control is activated.
= The glove compartment is closed.
= A Oacon is inserted.

Air Quality
The fragrance system distributes a pleasant fra- grance throughout the vehicle interior from a Oa-
con located in the glove compartment.
Navigate down until the climate control bar is
active.Select Fragrance .Activate or deactivate fragrancing.
qSetting the fragrance system
Requirements: = The THERMATIC (2-zone) or THERMOTRONIC
air conditioning control panel is available.
= The climate control system is switched on.
= The glove box is closed.
= A Oacon is inserted.

Air QualitySelect Fragrance .Keep pressing until the desired intensity is
reached.
q Inserting or removing the Oacon of the fra-
grance system
&WARNING Risk of injury from liquid per-
fume
If children open the Oacon, they could drink
the liquid perfume or it could come into con-
tact with their eyes.
Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle.Consult a doctor immediately if liquid

your eyes or skin, rinse your eyes with

Full Oacons must be taken to a
harmful substance collection point.
1Cap2FlaconTo insert: slide the Oacon into the holder as far
as it will go.To remove: aser opening the glove box, wait
for approximately seven seconds and pull out
the Oacon.If you do not use genuine Mercedes-Benz interior
perfumes, observe the manufacturers\b safety noti-ces on the perfume packaging.
Dispose of the genuine Mercedes-Benz interior
perfume Oacon when it is empty and do not reNll
it.
ReNllable OaconUnscrew the cap of the empty Oacon.Fill the Oacon with a maximum of 0.5 O. oz.
(15 ml).Screw the cap back onto the Oacon.
Always reNll the empty reNllable Oacon with the
same perfume. Observe the separate information
sheet with the Oacon.
Information on the windshield heater
&WARNING Risk of burns from touching the
windshield when the windshield heater is switched on
The windshield can become very hot when the
windshield heater is switched on.

The health of persons with limited temperature
sensitivity or a limited ability to react to high
temperatures may be aMected or they may
even suMer burn-like injuries.Do not touch the windshield while the
windshield heater is switched on.Allow the windshield to cool down before
touching it.
The windshield heater will be enabled automati- cally if d is activated on the climate bar on the
central display.
Aser the vehicle is started, the windshield heater
will be switched on automatically as required.
Air vents
q Adjusting the front air vents
&WARNING Risk of burns or frostbite due to
being too close to the air vents
Very hot or very cold air can Oow from the air
vents.
Make sure that all vehicle occupants always maintain a suPcient distance
from the air vents.If necessary, direct the airOow to another
area of the vehicle interior.
To guarantee the Oow of fresh air through the air
vents into the vehicle interior, note the following:
= Always keep the vents and ventilation grilles in
the vehicle interior clear.
= Keep the air inlet free of residue build-up
(  page 309).
To open or close: hold the center of air
vent 1 and turn it to the les (open) or right
(closed) as far as it will go.To set the airOow direction: hold the center of
air vent 1 and move it up or down or to the
les or right.
qAdjusting the rear passenger compartment air
vents
To open or close: turn controller 1 to the les
or right as far as it will go.To set the airOow direction: hold the center of
controller 1 and move it up or down or to the
