Convenience opening (ventilating the vehicle
before starting a journey)
&WARNING Risk of entrapment when open-
ing a side window
When opening a side window, parts of the
body could be drawn in or become trapped
between the side window and window frame.
When opening, make sure that nobody is
touching the side window.Release the button immediately if some-
body becomes trapped.
Requirements
= The SmartKey is in the immediate vicinity of
the vehicle.
Press and hold the Ü button on the Smart-
Key.
The following functions will be performed:
= The vehicle will be unlocked.
= The side windows will be opened.
= The sliding sunroof will be opened.
= The panoramic sliding roof will be opened.
= The seat ventilation of the driver\bs seat will
be switched on.\bIf the roller sunblind of the panoramic sliding
sunroof is closed, the roller sunblind will be
opened Nrst.To interrupt convenience opening: release the
Ü button.To continue convenience opening: press and
hold the Ü button again.Convenience closing (closing the vehicle from out-
side)&WARNING Risk of entrapment due to not
paying attention during convenience clos-
ing
When the convenience closing feature is oper-
ating, parts of the body could become trapped in the closing area of the side window and thesliding sunroof.
When the convenience closing feature isoperating, monitor the entire closing
process and make sure that no body
parts are in the closing area.
Requirements
= The key is in the immediate vicinity of the vehi-
cle.
Press and hold the U button on the key.
The following functions will be performed:
= The vehicle will be locked.
= The side windows will be closed.
= The sliding sunroof will be closed.Opening and closing79

=The panoramic sliding roof will be closed.To interrupt convenience closing: release the
U button.To continue convenience closing: press and
hold the U button again.\bConvenience closing also functions with KEY-
LESS-GO (  page 68).
Resolving problems with the side windows
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped or
fatally injured if reversing protection is not
activated
If you close a side window again immediately aser it has been blocked, the side window will
close with increased or maximum force. The
reversing function is then not active and body
parts may become trapped.
Make sure that no parts of the body are
in the closing area.To stop the closing process, release the
button or press the button again to
reopen the side window.A side window cannot be closed and you cannot see the cause.Check to see whether any objects are in the
window guide.Adjust the side windows.
Adjusting the side windows
If a side window is obstructed during closing and
reopens again immediately:
Immediately aser this, pull and hold the corre-
sponding button again until the side window
has closed and hold the button for at least one
more second (re-adjustment).
The side window will be closed without the automatic reversing function.
If the side window is obstructed again and
reopens again immediately:
Immediately aser this, pull and hold the corre-
sponding button again until the side window
has closed and hold the button for at least one
more second (follow-up adjustment).
The side window will be closed without the
automatic reversing function.The side windows cannot be opened or closed
using the convenience opening feature.
Possible causes: = The key battery is weak or discharged.Check the battery using the indicator lamp
(  page 63).Replace the key battery, if necessary
(  page 65).

Children operating the sliding sunroof could
get caught in the moving parts, particularly if
unattended.

the roller sunblind is being opened and
closed
Body parts may become trapped between the
roller sunblind and frame or sliding roof.
During the opening or closing process,
make sure that no body parts are in the
roller sunblind\bs range of movement.If someone is trapped, release the con-
trol panel immediately.

The opening/closing process will be stopped.*NOTE Malfunction due to snow and ice
Snow and ice may cause the sliding sunroof to
malfunction.
Open the sliding sunroof only if it is free
of snow and ice.*NOTE Damage caused by protruding

Objects that protrude from the sliding sunroof
may damage the seals.
Do not allow anything to protrude from
the sliding sunroof.*NOTE Damage to the sliding sunroof when
a roof luggage rack is installed
If the sliding sunroof is opened when a roof
luggage rack is installed, the sliding sunroof may be damaged by the roof luggage rack.
Do not open the sliding sunroof if a roof
luggage rack is installed.
The sliding sunroof may be raised to allow ven-
tilation of the vehicle interior.

The sliding sunroof and the roller sunblind areoperated using control panel 1.
The panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel
can be operated only when the roller sunblind is
open.
To open: swipe backwards across control
panel 1 and hold.To close: swipe forwards across control panel
1 and hold.To raise or lower: press control panel 1
brieOy.To start automatic operation: swipe forwards
or backwards across control panel 1.To cancel automatic operation: press control
panel 1 again.
The opening/closing process will be stopped.
Automatic reversing function of the sliding sun- roof
If an obstacle obstructs the sliding sunroof during
the closing process, the sliding sunroof will open
again automatically. The automatic reversing func-
tion is only an aid and is not a substitute for your attentiveness.

The reversing function will not react:
= To sos, light and thin objects, e.g. Nngers.
= Towards the end of the closing procedure.
= During resetting.

Automatic reversing function of the roller sunblind If an obstacle obstructs the roller sunblind duringthe closing process, the roller sunblind will openagain automatically. The automatic reversing func-

Automatic functions of the sliding sunroof

panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel.Rain closing function when driving
Vehicles with a panorama roof with power tilt/
sliding panel: if it starts to rain, the raised sliding
sunroof will automatically be lowered while the
vehicle is in motion.
Automatic lowering function
Vehicles with a panorama roof with power tilt/
sliding panel: if the sliding sunroof is raised at the
rear, it will automatically be lowered slightly at
higher speeds. At low speeds, it will be raised
again automatically.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped by
automatic lowering of the sliding sunroof
At higher speeds, the raised sliding sunroof
will automatically be lowered slightly at the
rear.
Make sure that nobody reaches into the
sliding sunroof\bs range of movement
while the vehicle is in motion.If someone becomes trapped, touch the
control panel.Rectifying problems with the sliding sunroof&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped or
fatal injuries when the sliding sunroof is
closed again
If you close the sliding sunroof again immedi-
ately aser it has been blocked or reset, the
sliding sunroof will close with increased or
maximum force.
There is a risk of becoming trapped or even of fatal injuries!
Make sure that no parts of the body are
in the closing area.If someone is trapped, release the con-
trol panel immediately.

The sliding sunroof cannot be closed and you can-
not see the cause.

forwards across the control panel (  page 80) and hold until the sliding sunroof
is closed.
The sliding sunroof will be closed with
increased force.
If the sliding sunroof is obstructed again and
opens again slightly:
Repeat the previous step. The sliding sunroof will be closed again with increased force.
Vehicles without a panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel: the sliding sunroof is not operating
smoothly.
Reset the sliding sunroof.
Resetting the sliding sunroof
Swipe forwards across the control panel
(  page 80) and hold repeatedly until the
sliding sunroof is completely open.Press and hold the control panel for another second.Close the sliding sunroof.
Vehicles with a panorama roof with power tilt/
sliding panel: the sliding sunroof or the roller sun- blind is not operating smoothly.
Reset the sliding sunroof and the roller sun-
blind.
Resetting the sliding sunroof and the roller sun-
blind
Swipe forwards across the control panel
(  page 80) and hold repeatedly until the
sliding sunroof is completely closed.Press and hold the control panel for another second.Press and hold the control panel until the
roller sunblind is completely closed.Press and hold the control panel for another second.Use automatic operation to fully open and

Extending the rear side window roller sunblinds
*NOTE Damage to the inertia reel due to it
snapping back
If suddenly snapped back, the inertia reel may
be damaged.
Always move the roller sun blind by hand.Do not drive with the roller sun blind

Function of the immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from being
started without the correct key.

The immobilizer will automatically be activated
when the vehicle is switched oM and deactivated
when the vehicle is switched on.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the key with you and lock the vehicle. Anyone can start the
vehicle if a valid key has been les inside the vehi-
cle.\bIn the event the engine cannot be started (but
the vehicle!

Deactivating the alarm using KEYLESS-GO
Grasp the outside door handle with the key

Function of tow-away alarm
\bThis function may not be available in all coun-
tries.
An audible and visual alarm will be triggered if an
alteration to your vehicle\bs angle of inclination is detected while the tow-away alarm is armed.
The tow-away alarm will automatically be armed
aser approximately 60 seconds:
= aser you lock the vehicle with the key
= aser you lock the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO
The tow-away alarm will be armed only when the
following components are closed:
= Doors
= Trunk lid
The tow-away alarm will automatically be deacti-
vated:
= aser you press the Ü or - button on
the key
= aser you press the start/stop button with the
key in the stowage compartment

= aser you unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO
= when you are using HANDS-FREE ACCESS

Function of interior protection

tries.
When interior protection is armed, a visual and
audible alarm will be triggered if movement is
detected in the vehicle interior.
Interior protection will be armed automatically
aser approximately ten seconds:
= aser you lock the vehicle with the key
= aser you lock the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO
