Adaptive functions of the DIGITAL LIGHT
q Intelligent Light System function
In this system, the headlamps adapt to the driving
and weather situation. It also provides extended
functions for improved illumination of the road.
The system comprises the following functions: = Active headlamps ( page 131)
= Cornering light ( page 132)
= Motorway mode ( page 132)
= Enhanced fog light function ( page 132)
= Bad weather light ( page 133)
= City lighting ( page 133)
= Topographical compensation (vehicles with
DIGITAL LIGHT) ( page 133)
The system is active only when it is dark.
q Active headlamps function
=
The headlamps follow the steering move-
ments.
= Relevant areas are better illuminated during a
journey.
The functions are active when the low beam is
switched on.
Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the course of the lane in which you are driving will also beevaluated and the active headlamps function will
adjust the light in advance.
Light and sight131

qCornering light function
The cornering light improves the illumination of
the carriageway over a wide angle in the turning
direction, enabling better visibility on tight bends, for example. It can be activated only when the lowbeam is switched on.
The function is active in the following cases: = At speeds below 40 km/h when the turn sig-
nal light is switched on or the steering wheel
is turned
= At speeds between 40 km/h and 70 km/h
and when the steering wheel is turned
Roundabout and junction function: the cornering
light will be activated on both sides based on an evaluation of the vehicle's current navigation posi-
tion. It will remain active until aser the vehicle has
les the roundabout or the junction.
q Motorway mode function
Motorway mode increases the range and bright-
ness of the cone of light, enabling better visibility.
The function will be active if a motorway journey
is detected by means of:
= the vehicle's speed
= the multifunction camera
= the navigation system
The function is not active in the following cases:
= at speeds below 80 km/h
q Enhanced fog light function
The enhanced fog light function reduces self-daz-
zling and improves the illumination of the edge of
the carriageway.
The function is automatically activated under the following conditions:
= At speeds below 70 km/h and when the rear
fog light is switched on.
132Light and sight

The function is automatically deactivated underthe following conditions:
= When speeds greater than 100 km/h are
reached.
= When the rear fog light is switched oM.
q Function of the bad weather light
The bad weather light reduces reOections in rainy
conditions by dimming individual areas of the
headlamps. The driver and other road users are dazzled less as a result.
q The city lighting function
City lighting improves the illumination of roadsides in urban areas using a broad distribution of light.
The function is active in the following cases: = At low speeds
= In illuminated parts of urban areas
q Function of the topographical compensation
Based on map data, the lighting system responds
pre-emptively to diMerent road heights. This
means that the headlamp range remains virtually
constant when you are driving on uphill or down-
hill gradients.%Only vehicles with a multimedia system with navigation have this function.
