cedure. If the charging cable connector is still
locked, contact a qualiNed specialist work-
shop. 
Close the socket cover and the socket Oap.

Remove the charging cable connector from

Close the socket cover and the socket Oap.

This can cause damage to parts of the body. 
When stopping the vehicle and when

obstacles such as kerbs under or in the
immediate vicinity of the body. 
Bring the vehicle to a standstill by pressing the

ake pedal. 
On gradients, turn the front wheels so that the
v
ehicle will roll towards the kerb if it starts
moving.

= The HOLD function is keeping the vehicle sta-
tionary.
= Active Parking Assist is keeping the vehicle
stationary.
= Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is bringing

In addition, one of t he following conditions
must be fulNlled:
- The vehicle is switched oM.
- The seat belt tongue is not inserted in the
seat belt buckle of the driver's seat and
the driver's door is opened.
- There is a system malfunction.
- The power supply is insuPcient.
- The vehicle is stationary for a lengthy
period.
When the electric parking brake is applied, the
red $ indicator lamp lights up in the driver's
display.
% The electric parking brake is not automatically
applied if t

he vehicle is switched oM by the
ECO start/stop function.
Function of the electric parking brake (releasing
aut
omatically)
The electric parking brake is released when the
following conditions are fulNlled:
= The driver's door is closed.
= The vehicle has been started. =
The tr
ansmission is in position h or k and
you depress the accelerator pedal or you shis
from transmission position j to h or k
when on level ground.
= If the transmission is in position k, the boot
lid must be closed.
= The seat belt tongue is inserted into the seat
belt buckle of the driver's seat.
If the seat belt tongue is not inserted into the
seat belt buckle of the driver's seat, one of the
following conditions must be fulNlled:
- You shis from transmission position j.
or
- You have previously driven at speeds
greater than 3 km/h.
When the electric parking brake is released, the
red $ indicator lamp in the driver's display

When the vehicle has been braked to a stand-
still, the electric parking brake is applied. The
red $ indicator lamp lights up in the driv-
er's display. Information on collision detection on a parked

ehicle If a collision is detected when the tow-away pro-
t
ection is primed on a locked vehicle, you will receive a
no
tiNcation in the multimedia system
when you switch the vehicle on.
You will receive information about the following
points:
= The area of the vehicle that may have been
damaged.
= The force of the impact.
The following situation can lead to inadvertent
activation:
= The parked vehicle is moved, forexample, in a
two-storey garage.
% Deactivate tow-away protection in order to
pr
event inadvertent activation. If you deacti-
vate tow-away protection, collision detection
will also be deactivated.
You can permanently deactivate collision
detection via the multimedia system
(  page 225). System limits

tection may be restricted in the following situa-
tions:
= the vehicle is damaged without impact,
forexample, if an outside mirror is torn oM or
the paint is damaged by a key
= an impact occurs at low speed
= the electric parking brake is not applied
% You are responsible for your vehicle. There-

ore, always make sure that your vehicle is

% This function is not available for all models.
If standby mode is activated, energy loss will be
minimised dur
ing extended periods of non-opera-
tion.
Standby mode is characterised by the following:
= The starter battery is preserved.
= The maximum non-operational time appears in
the driver's display.
= The connection to online services is interrup-
ted.
If the following conditions are fulNlled, standby
mode can be activated or deactivated using the
multimedia system:
= The vehicle is switched on.
= The vehicle has not been started.
Exceeding the vehicle's displayed non-operational
time may cause inconvenience; i.e. it cannot be
guaranteed that the starter battery will reliably
start the vehicle. 226

Driving systems and your responsibility
Your vehicle is equipped with driving systems
whic
h assist you in driving, parking and manoeu-
vring the vehicle. The driving systems are only
aids. They are not a substitute for you paying
attention to your surroundings and do not relieve
you of your responsibility pertaining to road traPc
law. The driver is always responsible for maintain-
ing a safe distance to the vehicle in front, for vehi-
cle speed, for braking in good time and for staying
in lane. Pay attention to the traPc conditions at
all times and intervene when necessary. Be aware
of the limitations regarding the safe use of these
systems.
Driving systems can neither reduce the risk of
accident if you fail to adapt your driving style nor
override the laws of physics. They cannot always
take into account road, weather or traPc condi-
tions. Information on vehicle sensors and cameras
Some driving and driving safety systems use cam-
