a diesel engine. There is air
inthe fuel system. 6
After refuelling, turn th estarter motor
for up to 60 seconds without interrup-
tion until the engine is runn ing smooth-
ly.
The fuel system is bled.
If the engine does not start:
6 Wait for two minutes.
6 Repeat the startin gprocedure for up to
60 seconds.
If the vehicle still does not start:
6 Consult a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. The fuel filler flap cannot be opened. The fuel filler flap
isnot unlocked. The
batteries in the remote control or the
KEYLESS GO key* are discharged. 6
Unlock the boot using the emergency
key element (
=page 34 1).
6 Unlock the fuel filler flap manually
( = page 342). The fuel filler flap
isunlocked but the
opening mechanism is jamme d. 6

If the engine stil ldoes not start after several
attempts:

ine:
The engine does not start. You can hear

fuel warning lamp is lit and the fuel gauge
is showing 0. The fuel tank has run dry. 6
Refuel the vehicle.

voltage is too low (the start-
er battery is discharged or nearly dis-
char ged). 6
Jump-s tarting may beperform ed.
If the engine does not start despite jump-
starting:
6 Consult a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Vehicles with a petrol engine:
the engine is not running smoothly and is
misfiring. The
engine electronics or a mechanical
component in the engine con trol system
is faulty. 6
Do not use too much throttl e.
6 Have the cause rectified immediately at
a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Non-combusted fuel can otherwise get
into the catalytic co nverter and dama ge
it. Vehicles with a diesel engine:
the engine does not switch off. 6
Open the main fuse box (= page 386).
6 Pull out the two fuses markedMOTOR NOT
AUS
using the fuse extractor.
The engine stops.
If you wish to restart the engine:

utions The coolant temperature gauge is above
+130 °C. The coolant warning lamp may
also be
lit and a warning signal may sound
( = pag e107). The coolant
level is too low. The coolant is
too hot and the engine is no longer being
cooled sufficiently. 6
Stop as soon as possible and allow the
engine and the coolant to cool down.
6 Check the coolant level, while observing
the warn ings, and top up the coolant if
nec essary (
=page 247). If the coolant
level is correct, the radiator
fan may be faulty. The coolant is too hot
and the engine is no longer being coo led
sufficiently. 6
If the coolant temperature is below
130 °C ,you can drive on to the nearest
qual ified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Serv ice Ce ntre.
6 When doing so, avoid placing a heavy
strain on the engine (e.g. driving on

6 Move the selector lever to position D
or R.
In position D, the transmission shifts to
2nd gear,in Rit shifts to reverse gear.
6 Have the trans mission checked immedi-
ately at a qualified speci alist workshop,

Parktronic switches off after approximate-
ly 30 seconds and the indicator lamp in
the Parktronic button lights up. Parktronic has malfunctioned and has
switched itself off. 6
Have the Parktronic checked as soon as
possible at a qualified specialist work-
shop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre. Only the red segments in the Parktronic
warning dis
plays are lit.
Parktronic switches off after 20 seconds. The Parktronic sensors are dirty or there is
in
terference. 6
Clean the Parktronic sensors
(=
page 269).
6 Switch on the ignition again. There may be interference from an exter-
nal source of radio or ultrasonic waves. 6
Check the Parktronic functions at an-
