Lock or unlock the vehicle using the

when tested. The KEYLESS GO key batteries are dis-
charged. 6
Change the batteries ( =page 355). The vehicle cannot be started using the
KEYLESS GO key and the selector lever
button. The KEYLESS GO key is in the vehi-
cle. A door is open. The key cannot be easily
detected. 6
Close the door and restart the engine. You did not depress the brake pedal
when
starting the engine. 6
Depress the brake pedal and press the
KEYLESS GO button on the selector le-
ver. There is strong interference from a radio
source. 6
Start your vehic lewith the KEYLESS GO
key in the ignition lock. You have lost the KEYLESS GO key. 6
Have the KEYLESS GO ke ycancelled at
a Mercedes-Benz Servic eCentre.
6 Report the loss immediately to the ve-
hicle insurers.
6 If necessary, have the manual locks

the driver's door
If you can no longer lock or unlock the driv-
er's door using the key, use the emerge ncy
key element.
1 Emergency key element release catch

6 Unlock the door using the emerge ncy
key element. To do this, sli dethe emer-
gency key element to the stop in the

The anti-t heft alarm system will be triggered
if you open yourvehicle using the emergency key
el eme nt.T here are several ways of switchin gof f
the alarm:
! Press theŒ or‹ button onthe key.
! Insert the key into the ignition lock.
! Pressthe KEYLE SSGO button* (= page 23). Un

If the boot can no longer be locked or un-
locked using the key, unlock it as follows

Boot lock 1 To unlock
6 Insert the emergency key element in
the boot lock.
6 Turn the key sli ghtly anti-clockwise to
position 1.
6 Pull the boot lid handle and lift the boot
lid. If the vehicl
ecan no longer be locked using
the key, lock it as follows:
6 Close the passenger door.
6 Press the central locking switch inthe
coc kpit (
=page 89).
6 Check whether the locking knob on the
passenger door is sti llvisible. Press it
down manually if necessary.
6 Lock the driver's door using the emer-
gency key element. The emergency release is located in the
boot behind the side trim on the right-hand
side when viewed in the direction of travel.

side trim inthe boot.
6 Turn release key 1clockwise to the
stop.
The fuel filler flap is unlocked and can
be opened from outside. If the sli
ding /tilting sunroof can no longer
be moved electrically, you can operate it
wi th a crank. The drive is located inthe
overhead control panel behind the interior
light.

6 Remove crank 3from the Owner's
Manual wallet.
6 Insert the crank into the hexagon
socket.
6 Open or clos ethe roof by turning the
crank inthe appro priate direction.
i Only turn the cra nkslowly, and do not jerk it.
Once you have opened or closed the slidin g/
tilting sunroof manuall y,you must then reset it
(= page 344). Resetting
thesliding /tilti ng sunroof
6 Remove the fuse for the sliding /tilting
sunroof from the main fuse box
(= page 385).
6 Put the fuse back in.
6 Switch on the igniti on.
6 Press the sliding /tilting sunroof switch
in the raise direction until the roof is
fully up, and hold itthere for approxi-
mately on esecond.
The roof is reset. Releasing
the roll-over bars manually
If the roll-over bar release system isfaulty,
the roll-over bars can be released manual-
ly.
6 Close the soft top ( =page 184).

6 Take the Allen key from the Owner's
Manual wallet.

6 Break through perforations 1in the
rear wall trim with the Allen key.

Introduce the long section of the Allen
key into the borehole.
6 Push down the lock with the Allen key.
The roll-over bar is pushed out with a
loud noise.
6 Repeat this step for the other roll-over
bar.
Have the roll-over bars checked immedi-
ately at a qualified specialist works hop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Serv ice Ce ntre. Retracting the roll-over bars manually
If the roll-o
ver bars have been deployed au-
tomatically, you may lower the roll-over
bars manually.
i The re arseat head restraint scannot be
lo we red and the soft top cannot be opened or
cl os ed if theroll-over bars have been deploy ed.

Risk of injury Make sure that nobody
is within the area of
movement of the roll-over bars when carry-
in g out the following steps.
When the roll-over bars are deployed, the
rear seat head restraints with the roll-over
bars underneath them are suddenly pushed
upw ards.

6 Insert the long shaft of Allen key 2
into the recess whi chison the left-
hand side (seen in the direction of trav-
el) of the respective head restraint us-
ing decorative seam 1asa gu ide. 6
Firstly, press Allen key downw ards 3
firmly and hold itin this position.
6 Then push the head restraint down-
wards until it engages 4.
6 Remove the key again and release the
head restr aint.
6 Repeat the procedure for the other
head rest raint. G
Risk of inju ry You must only retract the roll-over bars
man-
ually when the soft top is open. Ot herwi se,
the function ofthe roll -over bars may be im-
paired and they will not be abl eto protect
you optimally.
To retract the roll-over bars when the soft
top is closed, visit a qualified specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service

Check the following points if the soft top
does not close automatically:
! Is the boot separator engaged
(= page 188)?
! Is the skibag cover closed
(=
page 189)?
! Have the roll-over bars been deployed?
! Is the boot lid closed?
! Is the on-board voltage sufficient?
Start the engine if necessary.
If the automatic function still does not
work, you may close the soft top manually.
You will require somebody to assist you in
carrying out this work. i Soft top emergency operation isa complex,
technically demanding procedure req uiring a
great deal of strength. Only close the soft top
manually under extreme circumstances. In this
sit uation, it is better to consult a qualified spe-
cia list workshop, e.g. a Mercede s-Be nz Service
Centre. 6
Apply the parking brake.
6 Open the side windo ws.
6 Lower the head restraints ( =page 94).
i The roll-over bars may have been deployed
if the head restraints cannot be lowered. For in-
for ma tion abo utlowering the roll-over bars man-
ually ( =
page 344).
6 Remove the key from the ignition lock.
6 Open the boot. 6
Take the two straps from the vehicle
toolkit. For more information about the
vehicle tool kit ( =pa ge 276).
6 Take the Allen key from the Owner's
Manual wallet.
6 Remove the trim inthe boot on the left-
hand side.
1 Locking mechanism

stop and turn itapproximately a quar-

Remove your wrist watch and any items
ofjewellery, such as rings orbracelets.
You could otherwise get caug ht, inju re
yourself and damage the vehicle.
! Only touch those places expressly indi-
