Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
ga ses, such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
ga ses can enter theve hicle interior if theta il-
ga te is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if theve hicle is in motion. #
Always switch o. the engine before
opening theta ilgate. #
Never drive with theta ilgate open. *

process, it will automatically open again slightl y.

The reve rsing function will not react:

In these situations in particular, there ve rsing
function cannot pr event someone being trap-

Ensure that no body parts are in the
closing area.
If someone is trapped, either: R Press thep button on thekey.
R Press or pull there mo teoperating switch
on the driver's door.
R Press the closing or locking button on the
ta ilgate.

or stop the closing process of theta ilgate byper-

tailgate can open or close unintentionally in
th efo llowing situations:
R A person's arms or legs are moving in the sen-
sor de tection range, e.g. when polishing the
ve hicle or picking up objects.
R Objects are mo ved or placed behind theve hi-
cle, e.g. the hose of a fuel dispenser, a charg-
ing cable or lug gage
R Clamping straps, tarp aulins or other co verings
are pulled overth e bumper.
R A pr otective mat with a length reaching over
th e boot sill down into the de tection range of
th e sensors is used.
R The pr otective mat is not secured cor rectl y.
R Workis being done on the trailer hitch, trailers
or rear bicycle rack s.

Yo u can limit the opening angle of theta ilgate in
th eto p half of its opening range up toa point
shortly before the end position. #
Stop the opening procedure of theta ilgate at
th e desired position. #
Press and hold the closing button on theta il-
ga te until you hear a short acoustic signal.
The opening angle limiter will be activated. The
ta ilgate will then stop in the stored position
when opened.
To open theta ilgate full y,pull the handle on the
outside of theta ilgate again aTer it has stopped
automaticall y.

backrest is not upright and loc ked in posi-
tion
The seat backrest of thefo lding bench seat
may fold down while theve hicle is in motion.
In this case, the seat belts may not per form
th eir intended pr otective function. #
Make sure that the seat backrests of the
re ar ben chseat are loc ked in the upright
position. Obser
vethe no tes on "Seat belts" (/ page 51),
"Head restraints" (/ page 112) and "Children in
th eve hicle" (/ page 61).
The folding bench seat is appr oved for use only
with child seats designed forch ildren up tosix
ye ars old (/ page 72). Information on suitable
ch ild restraint systems on thefo lding bench seat
can be obtained at a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre. The
folding bench seat may be used only when
th e combined luggage co ver and net is installed.
The tailgate can be opened from thefo lding
bench seat. The switch is located on the wheel
ar ch on theright-hand side when vie wed in the
direction of tr avel.

cameras are /tted, are damaged, dirty or co v-
ered. Obser vethe information on vehicle sen-
sors and cameras (/ page 231).
% Do not use there ve rsing camera in these
types of situations. You could otherwise injure
ot hers or collide with objects when parking
