Do not drive with tyres that have too little tread
dep
th. This signiNcantly reduces traction on wet
roads (aquaplaning).
On vehicles with the same front and rear wheel
size, you can interchange the wheels every
5,000 to 10,000 km, depending on the wear.
Ensure the direction of rotation is maintained for
the wheels. Notes on storing wheels
When storing wheels, observe the following notes:

emoving wheels, store them in a cool,
dry and preferably dark place.
= Protect the tyres from contact with oil, grease
or fuel. Overview of the tyre-change tool kit
Apart from some
countr
y-speciNc variants, vehi-
cles are not equipped with a tyre-change tool kit.
For more information on which tyre-changing
tools are required and approved for performing a
wheel change on your vehicle, consult a qualiNed
specialist workshop. You require the following tools, forexample, to
c
hange a wheel:
= Jack
= Chock
= Wheel wrench
= Centring pin
% The jack weighs approximately 3.4 kg.
The maximum load capacity of t
he jack can
be found on the sticker aPxed to the jack.
The jack is maintenance-free. If there is a
malfunction, please contact a qualiNed spe-
cialist workshop.
The tyre-change tool kit is located in tool bag 1
in t

Requirements:
= The v

ehicle is not on a slope.
= The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
ground.
= The required tyre-change tool kit is available.

hange tool kit, consult a qualiNed specialist
workshop to Nnd out about suitable tools. 
Apply the electric parking brake manually. 
Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
position.

he vehicle. 
Make sure that the vehicle cannot be started. 
Place chocks or other suitable items under the
fr
ont and rear of the wheel that is diagonally
opposite the wheel you wish to change. Raising the vehicle when changing a wheel
Requirements:

e are no persons in the vehicle.
= The vehicle has been prepared for a wheel
change (  page 349).
Important notes on using the jack:
= Use only a vehicle-speciNc jack that has been
approved by Mercedes-Benz to raise the vehi-
cle.
= The jack is only designed for raising and hold-
ing the vehicle for a short time while a wheel
is being changed and not for maintenance
work under the vehicle. =
The jac
k must be placed on a Nrm, Oat and
non-slip surface. If necessary, use a large, Oat,
load-bearing, non-slip underlay.
= The foot of the jack must be positioned verti-
cally under the jack support point. Wheels and tyres

Rules of conduct when the vehicle is raised:
= N
ever place your hands or feet under the vehi-
cle.
= Never lie under the vehicle.
= Do not start the vehicle and do not release the
electric parking brake.
= Do not open or close any doors or the tailgate. 
Using the wheel wrench, loosen the wheel
bolts on t

he wheel you wish to change by
about one full turn. Do not unscrew the
screws completely. Position of the jack support points

If you do not position the jack correctly at the
appr
opriate jacking point of the vehicle, the
jack could tip with the vehicle raised. 
Only position the jack at the appropriate
jac

king point of the vehicle. The base of
the jack must be positioned vertically
under the jacking point of the vehicle. *

he high-voltage battery if you use a jack that
is not speciNcally designed for the jack sup-
port points of the vehicle.

the base of the jack lies evenly on the ground.

When changing a wheel, avoid applying any force
to the brake discs, as this could impair the level of
comfort when braking.

Oiled or greased wheel bolts can cause the
wheel bolts t

aged wheel bolts or wheel hub threads. 
Never oil or grease the threads. 
In the event of damage to the threads,

Do not continue driving.

For tyres with a speciNed dir
ection of rotation, an
arrow on the side wall of the tyre indicates the
correct direction of rotation. Observe the direc-
tion of rotation when Ntting. *

If you tighten the wheel bolts or wheel nuts

he vehicle is raised, the jack could tip. 
Only tighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts

he vehicle is on the ground. 
Be sure to observe the instructions and safety

tes on "Changing a wheel" (  page 344). 
For safety reasons, only use wheel bolts which
ha

ve been approved by Mercedes-Benz and
for the wheel in question. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal

Unscrew and remove the centring pin. 
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is Nng

tight.

Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
an initial maximum force of 80 Nm. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
the speciNed tightening torque of 150 Nm. &

Notes on the emergency spare wheel

The wheel or tyre size and the tyre type of the
emer
gency spare wheel or spare wheel and
the wheel to be replaced may diMer. The emer-
gency spare wheel or spare wheel can signiN-
cantly impair driving characteristics of the
vehicle.
To prevent hazardous situations: 
Drive carefully. 
Never Nt mor
e than one emergency
spare wheel or spare wheel that diMers
in size. 
Only use an emergency spare wheel or
spar
e wheel brieOy.

shop. The new wheel must have the cor-

ect dimensions. Observe the following notes on
Ntting an emer

gency spare wheel:
= The maximum permissible speed with an
emergency spare wheel Ntted is 80 km/h.
= Do not Nt the emergency spare wheel with
snow chains.
= Replace the emergency spare wheel aser six
years at the latest, regardless of wear.
= Use the wheel bolts that are included with the
emergency spare wheel.
= Check the tyre pressure of the emergency
spare wheel Ntted. Correct the pressure as
necessary.
% The speciNed tyr
e pressure is stated on the
label of the emergency spare wheel.
% Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
t
em: if an emergency spare wheel is Ntted, the
tyre pressure monitoring system cannot func-
tion reliably. For a few minutes aser an emer-
gency spare wheel is Ntted, the system may still display the tyre pressure of the removed
wheel. Onl
y restart the system again when the
emergency spare wheel has been replaced
with a new wheel.

with EU Directives. The data stated only applies to
vehicles with standard equipment. You can obtain
further information from a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
Only for certain countries: you can Nnd vehicle-
speciNc vehicle data in the COC documents (CER-
TIFICATE OF CONFORMITY). These documents

from the two-way radios can interfere with the
vehicle electronics and jeopardise the operat-
ing safety of the vehicle.

improper operation of two-way radios
If you use two-way radios in the vehicle
im
properly, their electromagnetic radiation
can disrupt the vehicle's electronics. This is
the case in the following situations, in particu-
lar: =

o-way radio is not connected to an
exterior aerial.
= The exterior aerial is Ntted incorrectly or is
not a low-reOection aerial.
This could jeopardise the operating safety of
the vehicle. 
Have the lo
w-reOection exterior aerial Nt-
ted at a qualiNed specialist workshop. 
When operating two-way radios in the
v

ehicle, always connect them to the low-
reOection exterior aerial. *
NOTE In
