\bDo not use the 360° Camera under such cir-
cumstances. You could otherwise injure oth-
ers or collide with objects when parking the vehicle.
For technical reasons, the standard height of thevehicle may be altered if the vehicle is carrying a
heavy load and can result in inaccuracies in the
guide lines and in the display of the generated
images.
The Neld of vision and other functions of the cam-
era system may be restricted due to additional attachments on the vehicle (e.g. license plate
bracket, bicycle rack).
\bThe contrast of the display may be impaired
by abrupt, direct sunlight or by other light
sources, e.g. when driving out of a garage. In
this case, pay particular attention.\bHave the display repaired or replaced if, forexample, pixel errors considerably restrict
its use.

Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
qFunction of Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is an electronic park-
ing assistance system that monitors the area sur-
rounding your vehicle and uses visual and audible
cues to show you the distance between the vehi-
cle and a detected obstacle.
The passive side impact protection also warns you
of obstacles to the sides. These must be detected
by the sensors in the front or rear bumper before
you drive past them. If you steer in the direction of a detected obstacle and there is a risk of a lat-
eral collision, a warning will be issued. The pas-
sive side impact protection can be activated and
deactivated via the multimedia system.
In order for front or rear obstacles to the sides to be displayed, the vehicle must Nrst travel a dis-
tance of at least half a vehicle length. Once the vehicle has traveled one vehicle length, obstacles
on all sides can be shown.
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is only an aid. It is
not a substitute for paying attention to your sur- roundings. You are always responsible for safe
maneuvering and parking. Make sure that there are no persons, animals or objects in the maneu- vering area while you are maneuvering and park-
ing or exiting parking spaces.Displays on the central displayVehicles with 360° cameraVehicles with rear-view camera260Driving and parking

As soon as Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is opera-
tional, the respective areas of the display will be
shown in blue.1Operational, front and rear2Operational, all around3Operational, all around and obstacle detected
The color of the display will change depending on
the distance to the detected obstacle:
= Blue: > 3.3 s (1 m) (no obstacles detected)
= Yellow: approx. 3.3 s (1 m) - 2.2 s (0.7 m)
= Orange: approx. 2.2 s (0.7 m) - 1.2 s (0.4 m)
= Red: < 1.2 s (0.4 m)
Vehicles with 360° camera: the boundary line will
shis dynamically depending on the positions and
distances of the obstacles detected.
Depending on the distance to the obstacle detec-
ted, an intermittent warning tone will sound as
well. You can set the timing of the warnings in the
multimedia system. In the Warn Early setting, the
system will warn you from a distance of 3.3 s
(1 m); in the standard setting, it will warn you only from 1.2 s (0.4 m).

If you are not in the Camera & Parking menu and
an obstacle in the vehicle path is detected, pop- up window 1 will appear on the central display if
the following requirements are met:
= Vehicles without Active Parking Assist: when
you are driving at a speed no greater than 8 mph (12 km/h).

are driving at a speed no greater than 11 mph (18 km/h).
Optionally, obstacles detected by Parking Assist
PARKTRONIC from a distance of approximately 3.3 s (1.0 m) in front 2 and 2.2 s (0.7 m) at the
sides 3 can also be displayed on the head-up
display.
Vehicles with active ambient lighting and Parking
Package with remote parking functions When Warning Support is activated, the Parking
Assist PARKTRONIC display will also be accompa-
nied by ambient lighting. If an obstacle is detec-
ted, the ambient lighting will light up in the same color as the display on the central display.
The ambient lighting that accompanies the Park-
ing Assist PARKTRONIC display is intended merely
to accentuate the display in the central display and does not replace it.
More information on ambient lighting:
( page 147)\bA display message for the ambient lighting will
not appear in the area of the driver\bs displayor in the rear passenger compartment.\bDepending on the selected setting, other
functions may supersede the ambient lighting
eMects of Parking Assist PARKTRONIC. In this
case, the ambient lighting eMects of Parking
Assist PARKTRONIC will not occur.
System limits
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC does not necessarily
take into account the following obstacles:
= Obstacles below the detection range, e.g. per-
sons, animals or objects
= Obstacles above the detection range, e.g.
overhanging loads, overhangs or loading
ramps of trucks
= Pedestrians or animals approaching the vehi-
cle from the side
= Objects placed next to the vehicle
Obstacles at the sides will not be shown in the fol-
lowing situations, for example:
= You park the vehicle and switch it oM.
= You open the doors.
Aser the engine is restarted, the vehicle will need
to detect obstacles again by driving past them before a new warning can be issued.
Also observe the limits of the following systems:
= Rear-view camera ( page 254)
= 360° camera ( page 255)
Observe the information on vehicle sensors and cameras; otherwise, the system will not be able to
function properly ( page 212).262Driving and parking

Active Parking Assist
qFunction of Active Parking Assist
Active Parking Assist is an electronic parking
assistance system, which uses ultrasound with the assistance of the rear view camera and 360°
camera. When you are driving forwards up to
approximately 22 mph (35 km/h), the system automatically measures parking spaces on both
sides of the vehicle.
Active Parking Assist oMers the following func-
tions:
Vehicles with rear view camera
= Parking in parking spaces parallel to the road
= Backing up into parking spaces perpendicular
to the road
Vehicles with 360° camera = Parking in parking spaces parallel to the road
= Parking in parking spaces perpendicular to the
road (optionally either forwards or reverse)
= Parking in parking spaces that can only be
detected as such due to markings (forexample
at the roadside)
= Exiting a parking space parallel to the road
= Exiting a parking space perpendicular to the
road (optionally either les or right)
Active Parking Assist is only an aid. It is not a sub-
stitute for your attention to the surroundings. The
responsibility for safe maneuvering and parking
remains with you. Make sure that no persons, ani- mals or objects etc. are in the maneuveringrange.
If Active Parking Assist is available, the Ç mes-
sage appears in the driver\bs display. When thesystem detects parking spaces, È appears.
The arrows show on which side of the road free parking spaces are located. These are then shown
in the central display.
When Active Parking Assist is activated, the turn signal indicators are activated based on the calcu-
lated path of your vehicle. When you are entering
or exiting a parking space, the procedure is assis-
ted by acceleration, braking, steering and gear changes.
To start the parking procedure, press the E
button ( page 266).
Active Parking Assist will be canceled in the fol-
lowing situations:
= You deactivate Parking Assist PARKTRONIC.
= You press the E button again.
= You begin steering.
= You engage transmission position ].
= ESP n
intervenes.
= You open the driver\bs door.264Driving and parking

System limits
If the exterior lighting is malfunctioning, Active Parking Assist is not available.
Also observe the system limits of the following
systems:
= Rear view camera ( page 254)
= 360° camera ( page 255)
Objects that are above or below the detection
range of Active Parking Assist, e.g. protruding
loads, overhangs or loading ramps of trucks or boundaries of parking spaces, are not detected
when measuring the parking space. These are
also then not taken into account when calculating
the parking procedure. In some circumstances,
Active Parking Assist may therefore guide you into
the parking space prematurely or brake too late.
Certain environmental conditions, suchas snowfallor heavy rain, may lead to a parking space being
measured inaccurately. Parking spaces that are
partially occupied by trailer drawbars might not be identiNed as such or be measured incorrectly.
Only use Active Parking Assist on level, high-grip
ground.&WARNING Risk of accident due to objects
located above or below the detection
range of Active Parking Assist
If there are objects above or below the detec-
tion range, the following situations may arise:
= Active Parking Assist may steer too early.
= The vehicle may not stop in front of these
objects.
There is a danger of collision!
In these situations, do not use Active Parking Assist.
Active Parking Assist can also display unsuitable
parking spaces, e.g. parking spaces in which
parking is not permitted or parking spaces on unsuitable surfaces.
Do not use Active Parking Assist in the following
situations:
= In extreme weather conditions suchas ice,
packed snow or in heavy rain.
= When transporting a load that protrudes
beyond the vehicle.
= If the parking space is on a steep downhill or
uphill gradient.
= When snow chains are installed.
= Directly aser a tire change or when spare tires
are installed.
= If the tire pressure is too low or too high.
= If the suspension is out of alignment, e.g. aser
bottoming out on a curb.
= On steep inclines of more than approximately
15%.Driving and parking265
