tem inoperative message appears in the central
display.
The 360° Camera will not function or will only
partially function in the following situations:
= You are driving forwards at a speed greater
than approximately 16 km/h.
= The doors are open.
= An outside mirror is not completely folded out.
= The tailgate is open. =
The w
eather conditions are poor, e.g. heavy
rain, snow, fog, storm or spray.
= The light conditions are poor, e.g. at night or if
light is shining into the camera.
= The camera lens is obstructed, dirty or misted
up.
= If cameras or vehicle components in which the
cameras are Ntted are damaged. In this event,
have the cameras, their positions and their
setting checked at a qualiNed specialist work-
shop.
% Do not use the 360° Camera under such cir-
cums

tances. You could otherwise injure oth-
ers or collide with objects when parking the
vehicle.
For technical reasons, the standard height of the
v
ehicle may be altered if the vehicle is carrying a
heavy load and can result in inaccuracies in the
guide lines and in the display of the generated
images.
The Neld of vision and other functions of the cam-
era system may be restricted due to additional
attachments on the vehicle (e.g. licence plate
bracket, bicycle rack). %
The contrast of the display may be impaired

Function of Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
P

arking Assist PARKTRONIC is an electronic park-
ing assistance system which monitors the area
surrounding your vehicle and shows you the dis-
tance between the vehicle and a detected obsta-
cle visually and audibly.
The passive side impact protection also warns you
of obstacles to the side. These must be detected
beforehand by the sensors in the front or rear
bumper while driving by them. If you steer in the
direction of a detected obstacle and there is a risk of a lateral collision, a warning is issued. The pas-
siv

e side impact protection can be activated and
deactivated via the multimedia system.
In order for front or rear obstacles to the side to
be displayed, the vehicle must Nrst travel a dis-
tance of at least half a vehicle length. Once the
vehicle has travelled one vehicle length, obstacles
on all sides can be shown.
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is only an aid. It is
not a substitute for your attention to the surround-
ings. The responsibility for safe manoeuvring and
parking remains with you. Make sure that there
are no persons, animals or objects in the manoeu-
vring area while manoeuvring and parking in/exit-
ing parking spaces. Displays in the central display Vehicles with 360° Camera

The colour of the display changes depending on
t
he distance to the detected obstacle:
= Blue: > 1 m (no obstacles detected)
= Yellow: approx. 1 m - 0.7 m
= Orange: approx. 0.7 m - 0.4 m
= Red: < 0.4 m
Vehicles with 360° Camera: the boundary line
shiss dynamically depending on the position and
distance of the obstacles detected.
Depending on the distance to the obstacle detec-
ted, an intermittent warning tone also sounds. You
can set the timing of the warnings in the multime-
dia system. In the Warn early setting, the system
warns you from a distance of 1 m, in the standard
setting only from 0.4 m. Vehicles with 360° Camera Vehicles with reversing camera

When Warning assistance is activated, the Park-
ing Assist PARKTRONIC display is also accompa-
nied by ambient lighting. If an obstacle is detec-
ted, the ambient lighting lights up in the same col-
our as the display in the central display. The ambient lighting which accompanies the Park-
ing Assis
t PARKTRONIC display is only intended to
accentuate the display in the central display and
does not replace it.
More information on ambient lighting:

play or in the rear compartment.
% Depending on the selected setting, other
functions ma

y supersede the ambient lighting
eMects of Parking Assist PARKTRONIC. In this
case, the ambient lighting eMects of Parking
Assist PARKTRONIC do not occur.
System limits
P
arking Assist PARKTRONIC does not necessarily
take into account the following obstacles:
= Obstacles below the detection range, e.g. per-
sons, animals or objects.
= Obstacles above the detection range, e.g.
overhanging loads, overhangs or loading
ramps of lorries. =
P
edestrians or animals approaching the vehi-
cle from the side.
= Objects placed next to the vehicle
Obstacles on the sides are not shown in the fol-
lowing situations, for example: = You park the vehicle and switch it oM.
= You open the doors.
Aser the engine is restarted, obstacles must be
detected again by driving past them before a new
warning can be issued.
Also observe the system limits of the following
systems:
= Reversing camera ( page 284)
= 360° camera ( page 286)
Observe the information on vehicle sensors and
cameras; the system otherwise cannot function
properly ( page 237).

A

ctive Parking Assist is an electronic parking
assistance system, which uses ultrasound with
the assistance of the reversing camera and 360°
Camera. When you are driving forwards up to
approximately 35 km/h, the system automatically
measures parking spaces on both sides of the
vehicle.
Active Parking Assist oMers the following func-
tions: Vehicles with reversing camera
=
P

arking in parking spaces parallel to the road
= Reversing into parking spaces perpendicular
to the road
Vehicles with 360° Camera
= Parking in parking spaces parallel to the road
= Parking in parking spaces perpendicular to the
road (optionally either forwards or reverse)
= Parking in parking spaces that can only be
detected as such due to markings (forexample
at the roadside)
= Exiting a parking space parallel to the road
= Exiting a parking space perpendicular to the
road (optionally either les or right)
Active Parking Assist is only an aid. It is not a sub-
stitute for your attention to the surroundings. The
responsibility for safe manoeuvring and parking
remains with you. Make sure that no persons, ani-
mals or objects etc. are in the manoeuvring
range.
If Active Parking Assist is available, the Ç mes-
sage appears in the driver's display. When the system detects parking spaces,
È appear s.
The arrows show on which side of the road free
parking spaces are located. These are then shown
in the central display.
When Active Parking Assist is activated, the turn
signal indicators are activated based on the calcu-
lated path of your vehicle. When you are entering
or exiting a parking space, the procedure is assis-
ted by acceleration, braking, steering and gear
changes.
To start the parking procedure, press the E
button ( page 298).
Active Parking Assist will be cancelled in the fol-
lowing situations:
= You deactivate Parking Assist PARKTRONIC.
= You press the E button again.
= You begin steering.
= You engage transmission position j.
= ESP n
intervenes.
= You open the driver's door. 296

System limits
If t
he exterior lighting is malfunctioning, Active
Parking Assist is not available.
Also observe the system limits of the following
systems:
= Reversing camera ( page 284)
= 360° camera ( page 286)
Objects located above or below the detection
range of Active Parking Assist, suchas overhang-
ing loads, overhangs or loading ramps of goods
vehicles or the borders of parking spaces, are not
detected during measurement of the parking
space. These are also then not taken into account
when calculating the parking procedure. In some
circumstances, Active Parking Assist may there-
fore guide you into the parking space prematurely
or brake too late.
Certain environmental conditions, suchas snowfall
or heavy rain, may lead to a parking space being
measured inaccurately. Parking spaces that are
partially occupied by trailer drawbars might not be
identiNed as such or be measured incorrectly.
Only use Active Parking Assist on level, high-grip
ground. &
WARNING Risk of accident due t o objects
located above or below the detection
range of Active Parking Assist
If there are objects above or below the detec-
tion r
ange, the following situations may arise:
= Active Parking Assist may steer too early.
= The vehicle may not stop in front of these
objects.
There is a danger of collision!
In these situations, do not use Active
P
arking Assist. Active Parking Assist can also display unsuitable
par

king spaces, e.g. parking spaces in which
parking is not permitted or parking spaces on
unsuitable surfaces.
Do not use Active Parking Assist in the following
situations:
= In extreme weather conditions suchas ice,
packed snow or in heavy rain.
= When transporting a load that protrudes
beyond the vehicle. =
If t
he parking space is on a steep downhill or
uphill gradient.
= When snow chains are Ntted.
= When a trailer or bicycle rack is attached.
= Directly aser a tyre change or when spare
tyres are Ntted.
= If the tyre pressure is too low or too high.
= If the suspension is out of alignment, e.g. aser
bottoming out on a kerb.
= On steep inclines of more than approximately
15 %. Driving and parking
