Apply the electric parking brake manually. 
Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
position.

Removing and Ntting
t he wheel trim/hub capsRequirements:
= The v

ehicle is prepared for a wheel change
(  page 438).
Wheel trim
The wheel trim covers the wheel bolts on vehicles
with aluminium wheels. Before unscrewing the
wheel bolts, remove the wheel trim. 
To remove: using bo
th hands, carefully reach
into two wheel trim openings and remove the
wheel trim. Raising the vehicle when changing a wheel
Requirements:
= Ther

e are no persons in the vehicle.
= The vehicle has been prepared for a wheel
change (  page 438).
Important notes on using the jack:
= Use only a vehicle-speciNc jack that has been
approved by Mercedes-Benz to raise the vehi-
cle.
= The jack is only designed for raising and hold-
ing the vehicle for a short time while a wheel
is being changed and not for maintenance
work under the vehicle.
= The jack must be placed on a Nrm, Oat and
non-slip surface. If necessary, use a large, Oat,
load-bearing, non-slip underlay.
= The foot of the jack must be positioned verti-
cally under the jack support point. Rules of conduct when the vehicle is raised:
= N

ever place your hands or feet under the vehi-
cle.
= Never lie under the vehicle. Wheels and tyres

Do no t start the vehicle and do not release the
electric parking brake.
= Do not open or close any doors or the tailgate. 
Using the wheel wrench, loosen the wheel
bolts on t

he wheel you wish to change by
about one full turn. Do not unscrew the

If you do not position the jack correctly at the
appr
opriate jacking point of the vehicle, the
jack could tip with the vehicle raised. 
Only position the jack at the appropriate
jac

king point of the vehicle. The base of the jack must be positioned vertically

he jacking point of the vehicle. *

he high-voltage battery if you use a jack that

Oiled or greased wheel bolts can cause the
wheel bolts t
o come loose, as too can dam-
aged wheel bolts or wheel hub threads. 
Never oil or grease the threads. 
In the event of damage to the threads,

Have the damaged wheel bolts or dam-

ed hub threads replaced. 
Do not continue driving. 
Observe the information on the choice of tyres

For tyres with a speciNed dir
ection of rotation, an

correct direction of rotation. Observe the direc-
tion of rotation when Ntting.

Only tighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts

he vehicle is on the ground. 
Be sure to observe the instructions and safety

tes on "Changing a wheel" (  page 434). 
For safety reasons, only use wheel bolts which
ha

ve been approved by Mercedes-Benz and
for the wheel in question. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated until they are
Nnger-tight. 
Unscrew and remove the centring pin. 
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is Nng
er-
tight.

Lowering the vehicle

aising the vehicle, the jack can become trap-
ped when the vehicle is lowered. 
Start the drive system. This adapts the

ehicle level. 
Remove the jack from under the vehicle. 
To lower the vehicle: place t
he ratchet onto
the hexagon nut of the jack so that the letters
"AB" are visible and turn anti-clockwise. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
an initial maximum force of 80 Nm. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
patt
ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
the speciNed tightening torque of 150 Nm. &

bolts or wheel nuts ar

Emergency spare wheel
Notes on the emergency spare wheel
&
WARNING Risk of accident caused b y
incorrect wheel and tyre dimensions
The wheel or tyre size and the tyre type of the
emer
gency spare wheel or spare wheel and
the wheel to be replaced may diMer. The emer-
gency spare wheel or spare wheel can signiN-
cantly impair driving characteristics of the
vehicle.
To prevent hazardous situations: 
Drive carefully. 
Never Nt mor
e than one emergency
spare wheel or spare wheel that diMers
in size. 
Only use an emergency spare wheel or
spar
e wheel brieOy. 
Do not deactivate ESP n
. 
Have the emergency spare wheel or
spar

e wheel of a diMerent size replaced
at the nearest qualiNed specialist work- shop. The new wheel must have the cor-
r

ect dimensions. Observe the following notes on
Ntting an emer
-
gency spare wheel:
= The maximum permissible speed with an
emergency spare wheel Ntted is 80 km/h.
= Do not Nt the emergency spare wheel with
snow chains.
= Replace the emergency spare wheel aser six
years at the latest, regardless of wear.
= Use the wheel bolts that are included with the
emergency spare wheel.
= SpeciNed tightening torque: 130 Nm
= Check the tyre pressure of the emergency
spare wheel Ntted. Correct the pressure as
necessary.
% The speciNed tyr
e pressure is stated on the
label of the emergency spare wheel.
% Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
t
em: if an emergency spare wheel is Ntted, the
tyre pressure monitoring system cannot func-
tion reliably. For a few minutes aser an emer- gency spare wheel is
Ntt
ed, the system may
still display the tyre pressure of the removed
wheel. Only restart the system again when the
emergency spare wheel has been replaced
with a new wheel.

If two-way radios are manipulated or r

ted incorrectly, the electromagnetic radiation
from the two-way radios can interfere with the
vehicle electronics and jeopardise the operat-
ing safety of the vehicle. 
You should have all work on electrical

improper operation of two-way radios
If you use two-way radios in the vehicle
im
properly, their electromagnetic radiation
can disrupt the vehicle's electronics. This is
the case in the following situations, in particu-
lar:
= The two-way radio is not connected to an
exterior aerial.
= The exterior aerial is Ntted incorrectly or is
not a low-reOection aerial.
This could jeopardise the operating safety of
the vehicle. 
Have the lo
w-reOection exterior aerial Nt-
ted at a qualiNed specialist workshop. 
When operating two-way radios in the
v

ehicle, always connect them to the low-
reOection exterior aerial. Technical data
