Always install the Ooor mats securely
and as prescribed in order to ensure that
there is always suPcient clearance for
the pedals.Do not use loose Ooor mats and do not
lay multiple Ooor mats on top of one
another.
Vehicles with automatic front-passenger air bag
shutoM: objects trapped under the front-
passenger seat may interfere with the function of
the automatic front-passenger air bag shutoM or
damage the system. Please observe the notes on the function of the automatic front -passenger air
bag shutoM ( page 50).

ment under the ashtray due to intense
heat
The stowage compartment under the ashtray is not heat resistant and could be damaged if
you rest a lit cigarette on it.
Make sure that the ashtray is fully
engaged.\bLeather is a natural product. It exhibits natural
surface properties such as diMerences in
structure, marks caused by growth and injury or subtle color diMerences. These surface
properties are characteristics of leather and not material faults. Leather is also subject toa natural aging process during which the sur-
face properties change.
The handling characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
= Do not exceed the permissible total mass or
the gross axle weight rating of the vehicle
(including load and occupants). The values are
speciNed on the vehicle identiNcation plate on
the vehicle\bs B-pillar.
= The load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
= Always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
= Secure the load using the cargo tie-down rings
and distribute the load evenly.
Notes on driving with a roof load = Distribute the roof load and the load inside the
vehicle evenly, placing heavy objects at the
bottom. Also comply with the notes on loading the vehicle.
= Drive attentively, and avoid abrupt starts, brak-
ing and steering as well as rapid cornering.
= When transporting roof loads and when the
vehicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive programs  and A . These are
designed to focus on stability (  page 199).\bFor more information on stowage compart-

&WARNING Risk of injury due to objects
being stowed incorrectly
If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incorrectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup holders, open storage spaces and mobile
phone brackets cannot always retain all
objects they contain.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around in such
situations.Always make sure that objects do not
protrude from storage spaces, parcel
nets or storage nets.Close the lockable storage spaces before
starting a journey.Always stow and secure heavy, hard,
pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or bulky
objects in the trunk.Observe the notes on loading the vehicle.To open: slide the cover of the stowage com-
partment in the front center console all the
way forwards in the direction of the arrow
using handle 1.To close: brieOy push handle 1 of the open
cover of the stowage compartment in the front center console forwards.
The cover will automatically close the stowage

q Folding the rear seat backrests forward
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
adjusting the seats
When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat.&WARNING Risk of an accident because
the seat backrest is not engaged
The seat backrest may fold forwards.
There is a risk of the following, in particular: = The vehicle occupant may be pressed
against the seat belt. The seat belt cannot
protect as intended and could cause addi-
tional injury.
= A child restraint system is no longer prop-
erly supported or properly positioned and
may no longer fulNll its function as inten-
ded.
= The seat backrest cannot restrain objects
or goods in the trunk or cargo compart-
ment.
Always ensure that the seat backrest is
engaged, especially:
= Aser the seat has been adjusted.
= Aser the cargo compartment enlargement
has been folded forwardsMake sure that the red marking of the lock veriN-
cation indicator is no longer visible. Otherwise,
the seat backrest is not locked.
Always ensure that all vehicle occupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sitting
properly. Particular attention must be paid to chil- dren.
Requirements
= The rear seat backrest head restraints are fully
inserted.

=Vehicles with a folding rear passenger com-
partment armrest: the rear passenger com-
partment armrest has been folded up.
Folding the rear seat backrests forward mechani-
cally
You can fold the center and right seat backrests
forwards separately.
The les seat backrest can be folded forwards only
together with the center seat backrest.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a center seat backrest.
If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.Ensure that the center seat backrest is in an
upright position and locked to the les seat
backrest (  page 136).Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 into
marked position 2.Move the driver\bs or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.Pull release lever 1.Fold the corresponding seat backrest for-
wards.
Folding the rear seat backrests forward electri-
cally
You can fold the center and right seat backrests forwards separately.

The les seat backrest can be folded forwards only
together with the center seat backrest.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a center seat backrest.
If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.Ensure that the center seat backrest is in an
upright position and locked to the les seat
backrest (  page 136).Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 into
marked position 2.
If at least one section of the rear seat backrest is
folded forwards, the corresponding front seat willmove forwards slightly, if necessary, to avoid a
collision. The rear head restraints are lowered as
required.
In the rear passenger compartment: pull release lever 1.134Seats and stowing

In the cargo compartment: brieOy pull one of
buttons 1.
The corresponding seat backrest will be
unlocked.
If the les seat backrest is not locked with the
center seat backrest, this will be shown on the driver\bs display.Fold the corresponding seat backrest for-
wards.Folding the center rear seat backrest forwards
separately
If you no longer require the folded-down seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a center seat backrest.Press release catch 3.Fold seat backrest 2 forwards.
qFolding the rear seat backrest back
*NOTE Damage caused by trapping the
seat belt when folding back the seat back-
rest
The seat belt could become trapped and thus
damaged when the seat backrest is folded
back.
Make sure that the seat belt is not trap-
ped when folding back the seat backrest.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a center seat backrest.

Move the driver\bs or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.Swivel seat backrest 1 back until it engages.
Red lock veriNcation indicator 2 is no longer
visible. The backrest is engaged.\bIf the seat backrest is not engaged and locked in place, red lock veriNcation indicator 2 will
be visible.q Locking and releasing the release catch of the
center rear seat backrest You can lock the center seat backrest releasecatch if you want to secure the trunk againstunauthorized access. The center seat backrest
can then be folded forwards only together with
the les seat backrest.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a center seat backrest.To lock or unlock: slide catch 1 upwards or
downwards.
EASY-PACK cargo compartment cover and parti-
tioning net cassette
q Notes on the cargo compartment cover
&WARNING Risk of injury or death due to
poorly secured objects
The cargo compartment cover alone cannot
secure or restrain heavy objects, items of lug-
gage or heavy loads.
You could be hit by an unsecured load, partic-
ularly in the event of abrupt changes in direc-
tion, sudden braking or an accident.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Secure objects, luggage or loads against
slipping or tipping over, e.g. by using tie
downs, even if you are using the cargo

The cargo compartment cover may be dam-
aged when the vehicle is being loaded.
Do not place any objects above the
lower edge of the side windows or on the
cargo compartment cover.q Extending/retracting the cargo compartment
cover
ExtendingPull the cargo compartment cover back by both grab handles 1 and hook it into brack-
ets 2 on the les and right.RetractingRelease the cargo compartment cover from
brackets 2 on the les and right.Guide the cargo compartment cover forwards
using both grab handles 1 until it is fully
retracted.

Requirements: = The cargo compartment cover is rolled up.

Removing the cargo compartment coverPress end cap 1 on the les or right inwards.Pull out the cargo compartment cover back-

ets 1 on the les and right.
The end caps of the cargo compartment cover

The partitioning net alone cannot secure or
restrain heavy objects, items of luggage or
heavy loads.
You could be hit by an unsecured load, partic- ularly in the event of abrupt changes in direc-

they cannot be thrown around.Secure objects, luggage or loads against

tioning net.For safety reasons, always use a partitioning net
when transporting a load.
Damaged partitioning nets can no longer fulNll
their functions and must be replaced. Visit a quali-
Ned specialist workshop.
Please note that the availability of the partitioning
