Wireless charging in the rear passenger compart-

Fold down the rear passenger compartment
armrest.Open the stowage compartment in rear
passenger compartment armrest 1 .Place the mobile phone as close to the center
of mat 2 as possible with the display facing
upwards.
When the indicator lamp at the front of the mobile phone system lights up, the mobilephone is being charged. In addition, malfunc-
tions during the mobile phone\bs charging proc-ess will be shown by the indicator lamp Oash-
ing three times.\bObserve the notes on loading the vehicle

Installing and removing Ooor mats
&WARNING Risk of accident due to objects
in the driver\bs footwell
Objects in the driver\bs footwell may impede
pedal travel or block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardizes the operating and road safety
of the vehicle.
Stow all objects in the vehicle securely so that they cannot get into the driver\bs
footwell.Always install the Ooor mats securely
and as prescribed in order to ensure that
there is always suPcient room for the
pedals.Do not use loose Ooor mats and do not

Exterior lighting
Information about lighting systems and yourresponsibility
The various lighting systems of the vehicle are
only aids. The driver of the vehicle is responsible
for correct vehicle illumination in accordance with the prevailing light and visibility conditions, legal
requirements and traPc situation.
Light switch
qOperating the light switch

When low beam is activated, the ` indicator
lamp for the side lamps will be deactivated and
replaced by the X low-beam indicator lamp.
Always park your vehicle safely using suPcient
lighting, in accordance with the relevant legal stipulations.*NOTE Battery discharging by operating the
parking lamps
Do not have the parking lamps switched on
over a period of several hours.
If the battery is insuPciently charged, the side
lamps or parking lights will be switched oM auto-
matically to facilitate the next engine start.
The exterior lighting (except side lamps and park-
ing lights) will switch oM automatically when the
driver\bs door is opened.

qAutomatic driving lights function
When the vehicle is switched on, the parking
lamps, low beam and daytime running lights will be switched on automatically depending on the
ambient light.&WARNING Risk of accident when the low
beam is switched oM in poor visibility
When the light switch is set to X, the low
beam may not be switched on automatically if
there is fog, snow or other causes of poor visi-
bility such as spray.
In such cases, turn the light switch to
X .The automatic driving lights are only an aid. You
are responsible for the vehicle lighting.

Requirements: = The light switch is in the X or X posi-
tion.

Operating the combination switch for the lights

Vehicles with Active Lane Change Assist:
= A turn signal indicator activated by the
driver may continue to operate for the
duration of the lane change.
= If the driver indicated directly beforehand
but a lane change was not immediately
possible, the turn signal indicator may acti-

The hazard warning lights will switch on automati-

DIGITAL LIGHT adaptive functions
qIntelligent Light System function
With this system, the headlamps adapt to the driv- ing and weather situation. It also provides exten-ded functions for improved illumination of the
road.
\bThe availability of the functions is dependent on the country.
The system comprises the following functions:
= Active headlamps (  page 154)
= Cornering light (  page 154)
= Highway mode (  page 155)
= Enhanced fog light function (  page 155)
= Bad weather light (  page 155)
= City lighting (  page 155)
= Topographical compensation (  page 155)
The system is active only when it is dark.
q Active headlamps function
=
The headlamps follow the steering move-
ments.
= Relevant areas are better illuminated during a
journey.
The functions are active when the low beam is
switched on.
Depending on the vehicle\bs equipment, the course of the lane in which you are driving will also beevaluated and the active headlamps function will
adjust the light in advance.
q Cornering light function
The cornering light improves the illumination of
the road over a wide angle in the turning direc-
tion, enabling better visibility on tight bends, for
example. The cornering light will be activated only when low beam is switched on.
The function will be active in the following cases:
= At speeds below 25 mph (40 km/h) when the
turn signal light is switched on or the steeringwheel is turned
= At speeds between 25 mph (40 km/h) and
43 mph (70 km/h) and when the steering
wheel is turned

TraPc circle and intersection function: the corner-
ing light will be activated on both sides based on an evaluation of the vehicle\bs current navigation
position. It will remain active until aser the vehicle
has les the traPc circle or intersection.
q Highway mode function (Canada)
Highway mode increases the range and bright-
ness of the cone of light, enabling better visibility.
The function will be active if a highway journey is
detected by means of:
= the vehicle\bs speed
= the multifunction camera
= the navigation system
The function is not active in the following cases:
= at speeds below 50 mph (80 km/h)
q Enhanced fog light function (Canada)
The enhanced fog light function reduces reOective
glare and improves the illumination of the edge of
the road.
The function is automatically activated under the following conditions:
= At speeds below 43 mph (70 km/h) and when
the rear fog light is switched on.
The function is automatically deactivated underthe following conditions:
= When speeds greater than 62 mph
(100 km/h) are reached.
= When the rear fog light is switched oM.
q Function of the bad weather light (Canada)
The bad weather light reduces reOections in rainy
conditions by dimming individual areas of the
headlamps. The driver and other road users are dazzled less as a result.
q The city lighting function (Canada)
City lighting improves the illumination of roadsides in urban areas using a broad distribution of light.
The function will be active in the following cases:
= At low speeds
= In illuminated parts of urban areas
q Function of the topographical compensation
Based on available map data, the lighting system responds pre-emptively to diMerent road heights.
This means that the headlamp range remains vir- tually constant when you are driving on uphill or

\bOnly vehicles with a multimedia system withnavigation have this function.
q Assistance functions of DIGITAL LIGHT
DIGITAL LIGHT visually expands on the driver assistance systems by projecting the assistant
displays in front of the vehicle while it is in
motion. DIGITAL LIGHT can therefore help the
driver in critical situations.
\bThe availability of the functions is dependent on the country.
The system will be active in the following cases:
= The light switch is in the X position.
= High beam is switched on.
\bIf you activate the head-up display with aug-
mented reality, the projections can be deacti-vated depending on the situation.\bDepending on the country in which you arecurrently driving, certain functions may be
disabled due to diMerent legal requirements,
even if they are enabled in the multimedia
system. When you cross a border, the vehicle
will automatically adapt to the applicable requirements.Spotlight
The spotlight function runs in the background and
Oashes the headlamps in four short bursts at per-
sons detected within the lane markings. You will also be made aware of the position of the person by a projected symbol.
The function will be active in the following circum-
stances:
= You are driving outside illuminated areas.
= The system detects a lane marking.
Notes
If TraPc Sign Assist detects a roadworks zone,
the system will provide support as follows:
= A corresponding symbol will be projected onto
the road when you enter a roadworks zone.

Collision warning
If you fall below the safe distance at speeds of atleast 19 mph (30 km/h), a collision warning sym-
bol will be projected onto the road.

Lane change warning
During assisted lane changes at speeds of at least
19 mph (30 km/h), the course of the lane change
will Oash.

Lane keeping and blind spot warning
At speeds of at least 19 mph (30 km/h), a trian-
gle that indicates a lane correction and its direc-
tion will be projected onto the road in the follow-
ing cases:
= You leave the lane unintentionally.

= You switch on the turn signal light while an
object or obstacle is in your blind spot.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist
qAdaptive Highbeam Assist function
&WARNING Risk of accident despite Adap-
tive Highbeam Assist
Adaptive Highbeam Assist does not react to:
= Road users without lights, e.g. pedestrians
= Road users with poor lighting, e.g. cyclists
= Road users whose lighting is obstructed,
e.g. by a barrier
On very rare occasions, Adaptive Highbeam
Assist may fail to recognize other road users with their own lighting, or may recognize them
too late.
In these, or in similar situations, the automatic
high beam will not be deactivated or will be
activated despite the presence of other road
users.Always observe the road and traPc con-
ditions carefully and switch oM the high
beam in good time.Adaptive Highbeam Assist cannot take into
account road, weather or traPc conditions.
Detection may be restricted in the following
cases:
= In poor visibility, e.g. fog, heavy rain or snow
= if there is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
Adaptive Highbeam Assist is only an aid. You are
responsible for adjusting the vehicle\bs lighting to the prevailing light, visibility and traPc conditions.158Light and visibility
