Requirements:
= The vehicle is switched oM.
To activate: press button 1 for approximately
one second.
A visual and audible alarm is triggered.To deactivate: brieOy press button 1 again.

Press the start/stop button.
A SmartKey belonging to the vehicle must be detected in the vehicle.
Changing the unlocking settings
Possible unlocking functions of the SmartKey:
= Central unlocking
= Unlocking the driver\bs door and socket Oap
To switch between settings: press the Ü
and U buttons simultaneously for approx-
imately six seconds until the indicator lamp
Oashes twice.
Options if the unlocking function for the driver\bs
door and socket Oap has been selected:
= To unlock the vehicle centrally: press the
Ü button twice.
= Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: if you touch the
inner surface of the door handle on the driv- er\bs door, only the driver\bs door and the socketOap are unlocked.
Deactivating the function of the key
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: if you deactivate the
function of the key, the KEYLESS-GO functions are
also deactivated. Access or drive authorization by
KEYLESS-GO is then no longer possible with that particular key. Activate the function of the key sothat all its functions will again be available.
You can also deactivate the function of the key to reduce the energy consumption of the key if you

do not use the vehicle or a key for an extended
period of time.Press and hold the U button on the key.With the key button U pressed, immedi-
ately press key button Ü twice in quick
succession.
The indicator light of the key lights up once
brieOy and once for a long time.\bYou have the following options to reactivate
the key:
= Press any button on the key.
= Start the vehicle with the key in the center
console stowage space (  page 190).Removing/inserting the emergency key
Removing the emergency key
Press release button 1.
Emergency key 2 will be pushed out slightly.Fully remove emergency key 2.Inserting the emergency keyInsert emergency key 2 at marking 3 until
it engages.\bYou can use emergency key 2 to attach the
SmartKey to a key ring.
Replacing the key battery
&DANGER Risk of fatal injuries due to swal-
lowing batteries
Batteries contain toxic and corrosive substan-
ces. If batteries are swallowed or otherwise

enter the body, severe internal burns can
occur within two hours.
There is a risk of fatal injury.Keep batteries out of the reach of chil-
dren.If the battery compartment cover and/or
lid do not close securely, stop using the key and keep it away from children.If batteries are swallowed or otherwise
enter the body, seek immediate medical
attention.+ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental
damage due to improper disposal of bat-
teries
Batteries contain pollutants. It is illegal
to dispose of them with the household rub-
bish.

Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally responsible manner.
Take discharged batteries to a qualiNed
specialist workshop or to a collection
point for used batteries.
Requirements: = You require a CR 2032 3 V cell battery.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have the
battery replaced at a qualiNed specialist work-
shop.
Remove the mechanical key (  page 80).Press mechanical key 2 into the opening in
the key in the direction of the arrow until
cover 1 opens. When doing so, do not hold
cover 1 closed.Opening and closing81

Insert mechanical key 2 into the opening
and lis up covering 3 and remove it.Repeatedly tap the key against your palm until
battery 4 falls out of the key.Insert the new battery with the positive pole
facing upwards. Use a lint-free cloth to do so.Make sure that the surface of the battery is
free of lint, grease and other impurities.Insert the front tabs of covering 3 into the
housing and then press on both sides to close it.Make sure that covering 3 is completely
closed.Insert the front tabs of cover 1 into the
housing and then press until it is completely
closed.Insert the mechanical key again (  page 80).Problems with the key, troubleshooting
You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle
Possible causes are:
= The key battery is weak or discharged.
Check the battery using the indicator lamp
(  page 78).Replace the key battery, if necessary

(  page 92).Have key checked at a qualiNed specialist
workshop.
There is interference from a powerful radio signal
source
Possible causes if the function of the key is impaired:
= high voltage power lines
= mobile phones
= electronic devices (notebooks, tablets)
=shielding due to metal objects or induction
loops for electrical gate systems or automatic
barriersMake sure that there is suPcient distance
between the key and the potential source of
interference.
You have lost a key
Have the key deactivated at a qualiNed spe-
cialist workshop.If necessary, have the mechanical lock

Doors
Unlocking/opening the doors from the inside
To unlock and open a front door: pull door
handle 1.To unlock a rear door: pull the rear door han-
dle.To open a rear door: pull the rear door handle
again.Centrally locking and unlocking the vehicle from the insideTo unlock: press button 1.To lock: press button 2.
The red indicator lamp on button 2 will light
up once the vehicle is locked.\bThe buttons are also on the front passenger and rear doors.The socket Oap is also locked and unlocked. The
socket Oap can be opened even if a key is detec-
ted in the car.
The vehicle will not be unlocked: = if you have locked the vehicle using the key
= if you have locked the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO
Recessed door handles extend or retract
The door handles extend automatically:
= when you unlock the vehicle with the key
= when you touch the outer sensor surface of
the door handle (when the vehicle is unlocked)
The door handles retract automatically: = when you lock the vehicle with the key
= when pulling away

Locking/unlocking the vehicle with KEYLESS-GO
Requirements
= The key is outside the vehicle.
= The distance between the key and the vehicle
does not exceed 3 s (1 m).
=
The driver\bs door and the door on which the
door handle is used are closed.
The door handles will extend automatically:
= when a vehicle key is detected (the vehicle is
then not yet unlocked)
= when you unlock the vehicle with the key
= when you touch the outer sensor surface of
the door handle to unlock it
The door handles will retract automatically:
= when you lock the vehicle with the key
= when you touch the recessed sensor surface
of the door handle to lock it
= aser comfort locking (  page 100)
= when you pull away
= aser a waiting period*NOTE Vehicle damage due to uninten-
tional opening of the tailgate or a door
= When using an automatic car wash
= When using a high pressure cleaner
Deactivate the function of the SmartKey
in these situations.

Make sure that the SmartKey is at a min-
imum distance of 10 s (3 m) (power
washer) or 20 s (6 m) (automatic car
wash) away from the vehicle.

Problems with KEYLESS-GO, troubleshooting
You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle usingKEYLESS-GO
Possible causes: = The function of the SmartKey has been deacti-
vated.
= The SmartKey battery is weak or discharged.

vehicle is switched on and the wheels are
turning faster than walking pace.Activate or deactivate Automatic Door Lock.
In the following situations, there is a danger of
being locked out when the function is activated:
= The vehicle is being towed or pushed.
= If the vehicle is being tested on a roller dyna-
mometer.
Opening and closing the convenience doors
&WARNING Risk of entrapment when auto-
matically closing the comfort doors
Parts of the body could become trapped.
There may be people or animals in the closing
area.
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity of the closing area.Use one of the following options to stop
the closing process:
= Driver or passenger door: Press the
Ü or U button on the Smart-
Key.
= Driver\bs door: depress the brake

=All doors: Pull the inner or outer door
handles.
= All doors: Touch the recessed sensor
surface on the door handle.
= All doors: Push against the door or
pull on the door.
= All doors: Move your hand brieOy
towards the door from the inside and

the Comfort menu in the multimedia system.*NOTE When automatically opening and
closing the convenience doors, please

Your view of your surroundings may be restric-
ted.
Make sure that there are no persons,
animals or objects in the area of the con-
venience doors when opening and clos-
ing.When opening, pay particular attention
to low objects and obstacles in the side
window area.
Opening or closing the convenience doors
The following functions are required to automati-
cally open and close the convenience doors:
= KEYLESS-GO (  page 84)
= Power closing function (  page 92)
= Parking Package with 360° Camera
(  page 271)
or
Remote Parking Assist with Mirror Package
(  page 285)
= Active Blind Spot Assist (  page 263)
The convenience doors can then be opened and
closed automatically.
\bIf Active Blind Spot Assist is deactivated or unavailable, the convenience doors cannot beopened from inside.The following options are available for opening or
closing the convenience doors:
= the key (to open and close the driver\bs and
front passenger door)
= approaching the vehicle (to open the driver\bs
door)
= depressing the brake pedal (to close the driv-
er\bs door)
= the inner door handles (to open and close the
doors)
= the outer door handles (to open and close the
doors)
= Gesture operation (close doors from inside)

= the multimedia system (  page 91)\bYou cannot open a rear door with the door
handle from inside the vehicle if it is secured
by the child safety lock. Further information
on the child safety lock for the rear doors (  page 75).
You can still open the rear doors from the

Special features of the convenience doors:= If, when closing, the door has reached the Nrst
detent position, the power closing function (  page 92) will automatically draw the door
into the lock.
= If the rear doors are closed using the conveni-
ence function, they are not automatically
locked.Open the driver or passenger door with the key: Press and hold the button Ü on the
key until the door starts to open.\bIn the multimedia system, you can set
whether the driver\bs door, the front passenger
door or no door opens when you press the
Ü button on the key (  page 91).
If no door opens, the convenience opening function is carried out when the Ü button
is pressed. The convenience opening function
opens, forexample, the side windows and the panoramic roof with power tilt/sliding panel.Further information on convenience opening
(  page 100).Close the driver or passenger door with the
key: Press and hold the button U on the
key until the door starts to close. All open doors close.Comfort locking with the key: Press and hold
the key button U.
All open doors, side windows, and the panor-

lock the vehicle.
To open the vehicle by approaching it:

In these situations, deactivate the func-
tion of the key.
When you approach your vehicle and the key is detected, the vehicle is unlocked and the driver\bs
door opens automatically.
Set the function in the multimedia system (  page 91).
To close the driver\bs door with the brake pedal:
Depress the brake pedal until the door starts
to close.
To open or close the convenience doors from inside:
BrieOy pull the door handle (  page 83).
Automatic operation is then started.\bIf you pull the door handle during automatic operation, the opening or closing process isstopped. If you pull the door handle again, the process continues in reverse order.To open the convenience doors from outside:
