KEYLESS-GO and all of its associated fea-
tures are available again.
KEYLESS-GO start functionBear in mind that the engine can be started by
any of the vehicle occupants if there is a
SmartKey in the vehicle.
Changing the settings of the locking
systemYou can change the settings of the locking
system. This means that only the driver's door
and the fuel filler flap are unlocked when the
vehicle is unlocked. This is useful if you fre-
quently travel on your own. X
To change the setting: press and hold
down the 6 and 7 buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery check lamp flashes twice
( Y
page 85).
i If the setting of the locking system is
changed within the signal range of the vehi-
cle, pressing the 7 or 6 button:R
locks or R
unlocks the vehicle
The SmartKey now functions as follows: X
To unlock the driver's door: press the
6 button once.X

inner surface of the door handle on the

Mechanical key
General notes If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the SmartKey, use the
mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door, the anti-theft alarm
system will be triggered ( Y
page 78).
There are several ways to turn off the alarm: X
To turn the alarm off with the SmartKey:
press the 6 or 7 button on the
SmartKey.

Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.

To deactivate the alarm with KEYLESS-

SmartKey battery
Important safety notes
G WARNING
Batteries contain toxic and corrosive substan-
ces. If batteries are swallowed, it can result in
severe health problems. There is a risk of fatal
injury.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children. If
a battery is swallowed, seek medical attention
immediately. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the batteries replaced at a qualified specialist
workshop.
The SmartKey batteries contain perchlorate
material, which may require special handling
and regard for the environment. National
guidelines must be observed during disposal.

Checking the battery X

If persons, particularly children are subjected
to prolonged exposure to extreme heat or
cold, there is a risk of injury, possibly even fatal. Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.
G WARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured sufficiently, they could slip, tip
over or be flung around and thereby hit vehicle
occupants. There is a risk of injury, particu-
larly in the event of sudden braking or a sud-
den change in direction.
Always store objects so that they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggage or
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey.
You should preferably place luggage or loads
in the cargo compartment. Observe the load-
ing guidelines ( Y

Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
You can open a door from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. You can only open
the rear doors from inside the vehicle if they
are not secured by the child-proof locks
( Y
page 67).
If the vehicle has previously been locked from
the outside, opening a door from the inside90

will trigger the anti-theft alarm system.

Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. The buttons are located on
both front doors.

To unlock: press button C .X

If the front-passenger door is closed, the
vehicle locks. Meanwhile, the fuel filler flap will not be
locked or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from
the inside if the vehicle has been locked from
the outside.
You can open a front door from inside the
vehicle even if it has been locked.
If a locked door is opened from the inside, the
previous unlock status of the vehicle will be
taken into consideration if: R
the vehicle was locked using the locking
button for the central locking, or R
if the vehicle was locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had pre-
viously been fully unlocked. If only the driver's
door had been previously unlocked, only the
door which has been opened from the inside
is unlocked.
Automatic locking feature

To deactivate: press and hold button C
for about five seconds until a tone sounds. X
To activate: press and hold button D for
about five seconds until a tone sounds.
i If you press one of the two buttons and do
not hear a tone, the relevant setting has
already been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the

Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. If the tailgate
is open when the engine is running, particu-
larly if the vehicle is moving, exhaust fumes
could enter the passenger compartment.
There is a risk of poisoning.
Turn off the engine before opening the tail-
gate. Never drive with the tailgate open.
! The tailgate swings upwards and to the
rear when opened. Therefore, make sure
that there is sufficient clearance above and
behind the tailgate.

injury.
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity of the
closing area during the closing process.
Use one of the following options to stop the

the ignition.
If the tailgate touches an object while clos-
ing, the closing procedure is interrupted
and the tailgate reopens.
i If a KEYLESS-GO key is detected in the
cargo compartment, the tailgate will not

driver's seat when the vehicle is stationary
and unlocked. X
To open: pull remote operating switch C
for the tailgate until the tailgate opens. X
To close: turn the SmartKey to position 1
or 2 in the ignition lock. X
Press remote operating switch for tail-
gate C until the tailgate is completely
closed.
Limiting the opening angle of the tail-
gate
Important safety notes
! Make sure there is sufficient clearance to
open the tailgate fully when setting the
opening angle. The tailgate could otherwise
be damaged. Ideally, set the opening angle
outside.
Activating
You can limit the opening angle of the tail-
gate. This is possible in the top half of its
opening range, up to approximately 4 in
(10 cm) before the stop.
This could be useful, for example, if there is
insufficient space above the tailgate. X
To open the tailgate: pull the handle on
the tailgate. X
To stop the opening procedure at the
desired position: press the closing button96

Convenience opening
General notes
You can ventilate the vehicle before you start
driving. To do this, the SmartKey is used to
carry out the following functions simultane-
ously: R
unlock the vehicle R
open the side windows R
open the hinged side windows R
open the sliding sunroof or the panorama
roof with power tilt/sliding panel and the
roller sunblinds R
switch on the seat ventilation for the driv-
er's seat
i The convenience opening feature can
only be operated using the SmartKey. The
SmartKey must be close to the vehicle. For
vehicles without KEYLESS-GO, the Smart-
Key must be near the driver's door handle. The "convenience opening" feature is also
available on unlocked vehicles.
Convenience opening X
Vehicles without KEYLESS-GO: point the
tip of the SmartKey at the door handle on
the driver's door. X
Press and hold the 6 button until the
side windows and the sliding sunroof or the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel are in the desired position.
If the roller sunblinds of the panorama roof
with power tilt/sliding panel are closed, the
roller sunblinds are opened first. X
Press and hold the 6 button again until
the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel is in the desired position. X
To interrupt convenience opening:
release the 6 button.
Convenience closing feature
Important safety notes
G WARNING
When the convenience closing feature is oper-
ating, parts of the body could become trapped
in the closing area of the side window and the
sliding sunroof. There is a risk of injury.
Observe the complete closing procedure
when the convenience closing feature is oper-
ating. Make sure that no body parts are in
close proximity during the closing procedure.
When you lock the vehicle, you can simulta-
neously close the: R
close the side windows R
close the hinged side windows R
close the sliding sunroof or the panorama
roof with power tilt/sliding panel
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel, you can then close the

Proceed as follows if someone is trapped: R
Release the 7 button to interrupt the
closing procedure. R
Press and hold the 6 button to open.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: R
Release the sensor surfaces on the exterior
door handle to interrupt the closing proce-
dure. R
To open, pull the same door handle imme-
diately and hold it firmly. The door windows
and the sliding sunroof will open for as long
as the door handle is held but the door is
not opened.

release recessed sensor surface C on the
door handle.
Resetting the side windows
If a side window can no longer be closed fully,
you must reset it. X
Close all the doors. X
Turn the SmartKey to position 1 or 2 in the
ignition lock. X
Pull the corresponding switch on the door
control panel until the side window is com-
pletely closed ( Y
page 98). X
Hold the switch for an additional second.100

lock. This function is available for up to five
minutes or until the driver's or front-
passenger door is opened.
Resetting
! If the sliding sunroof still cannot be
opened or closed fully after resetting, con-
tact a qualified specialist workshop.
Reset the sliding sunroof if it does not move
smoothly. X
Turn the SmartKey to position 1 or 2 in the
ignition lock. X
Raise the sliding sunroof fully at the rear
( Y

Keep the V switch pressed for another
second. X
Make sure that the sliding sunroof can be
fully opened and closed again
