Use M M+S tyres at outside tempera-
tures of less than 10 °C. 
Only use the tyres for their intended pur-
pose. Observe the following when selecting,
Ntting and
r
eplacing tyres:
= Country-speciNc requirements for tyre
approval that deNne a speciNc tyre type for
your vehicle.
= Furthermore, the use of certain tyre types in
certain regions and areas of operation can be
highly beneNcial.
= Only use tyres and wheels of the same type
(summer tyres, winter tyres, MOExtended
tyres) and the same make.
= Only Nt wheels of the same size on one axle
(les and right).
It is only permissible to Nt a diMerent wheel
size in the event of a Oat tyre in order to drive
to the specialist workshop.
= Do not make any modiNcations to the brake
system, the wheels or the tyres. The use of shims or brake dust shields is not
per

mitted and may invalidate the vehicle's
general operating permit.
= Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
tem: all Ntted wheels must be equipped with
functioning sensors for the tyre pressure mon-
itoring system.
= At temperatures below 7 °C use winter tyres
or all-season tyres marked M M+S for all
wheels.
Winter tyres provide the best possible grip in
wintry road conditions.
= For M+S tyres, only use tyres with the same
tread.
= Observe the maximum permissible speed for
the M+S tyres Ntted.
If the tyre's maximum speed is below that of
the vehicle, this must be indicated by an
appropriate label in the driver's Neld of vision.
= Run in new tyres at moderate speeds for the
Nrst 100 km.
= Replace the tyres aser six years at the latest,
regardless of wear. =
When r eplacing with tyres that do not feature
run-Oat characteristics: vehicles with
MOExtended tyres are not equipped with a
TIREFIT kit at the factory. Equip the vehicle
with a TIREFIT kit aser replacing with tyres
that do not feature run-Oat characteristics,
e.g. winter tyres.

Notes on interchanging wheels
&

wheel sizes
Interchanging the front and rear wheels can
se
verely impair the driving characteristics.
The disk brakes or wheel suspension compo-
nents may also be damaged. 
Only interchange the front and rear
wheels if t
he wheels and tyres have the
same dimensions. Interchanging the front and rear wheels if the
wheels or tyr

es have diMerent dimensions can
render the general operating permit invalid.

"Changing a wheel"
( page 426)
The wear patterns on the front and rear wheels
diMer:
= front wheels wear more on the tyre shoulder
= rear wheels wear more in the centre of the
tyre Do not drive with tyres that have too little tread
dep
th. This signiNcantly reduces traction on wet
roads (aquaplaning).
On vehicles with the same front and rear wheel
size, you can interchange the wheels every
5,000 to 10,000 km, depending on the wear.
Ensure the direction of rotation is maintained for
the wheels. Notes on storing wheels
When storing wheels, observe the following notes:
= Aser r

emoving wheels, store them in a cool,
dry and preferably dark place.
= Protect the tyres from contact with oil, grease
or fuel. Overview of the tyre-change tool kit
Apart from some
countr
y-speciNc variants, vehi-
cles are not equipped with a tyre-change tool kit.
For more information on which tools are required
and approved to perform a wheel change on your
vehicle, consult a qualiNed specialist workshop. Required tyre-changing tools may include,

orexample:
= Jack
= Chock
= Wheel wrench
% The jack weighs approximately 3.4 kg.
The maximum load capacity of t
he jack can
be found on the sticker aPxed to the jack.
The jack is maintenance-free. If there is a
malfunction, please contact a qualiNed spe-
cialist workshop.
Tyre-change tool kit 1 is locat
ed under the load
compartment Ooor. Wheels and tyres

The tyre-change tool kit includes the following:
= Jac
k
= Wheel wrench
= Wheel studs
= Extension attachment for wheel studs, if nec-
essary (depending on vehicle version)
= Folding chock

Requirements:
= The v

ehicle is not on a slope.
= The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
ground.
= The required tyre-change tool kit is available.

workshop to Nnd out about suitable tools. 
Apply the electric parking brake manually. 
Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
position.

Make sure that the vehicle cannot be started. 
Place chocks or other suitable items under the

Unload the vehicle. Removing and Ntting

Raising the vehicle when changing a wheel
Requirements:
= Ther
e are no persons in the vehicle.
= The vehicle has been prepared for a wheel
change (  page 430).
= The wheel trims and hub caps have been
removed (  page 430).
Important notes on using the jack: = Use only a vehicle-speciNc jack that has been
approved by Mercedes-Benz to raise the vehi-
cle.
= The jack is only designed for raising and hold-
ing the vehicle for a short time while a wheel
is being changed and not for maintenance
work under the vehicle.
= The jack must be placed on a Nrm, Oat and
non-slip surface. If necessary, use a large, Oat,
load-bearing, non-slip underlay.
= The foot of the jack must be positioned verti-
cally under the jack support point. Rules of conduct when the vehicle is raised:
= N

ever place your hands or feet under the vehi-
cle.
= Never lie under the vehicle. =
Do no
t start the vehicle and do not release the
electric parking brake.
= Do not open or close any doors or the tailgate. 
Using the wheel wrench, loosen the wheel
bolts on t

he wheel you wish to change by
about one full turn. Do not unscrew the
screws completely. Wheels and tyres

If you do not position the jack correctly at the

jack could tip with the vehicle raised. 
Only position the jack at the appropriate

Removing a wheel
Requirements:

When changing a wheel, avoid applying any force
to the brake discs, as this could impair the level of
comfort when braking.

Oiled or greased wheel bolts can cause the
wheel bolts t

aged wheel bolts or wheel hub threads. 
Never oil or grease the threads. 
In the event of damage to the threads,

For tyres with a speciNed dir
ection of rotation, an
arrow on the side wall of the tyre indicates the
correct direction of rotation. Observe the direc-
tion of rotation when Ntting. Wheels and tyres

For safety reasons, only use wheel bolts which
ha

ve been approved by Mercedes-Benz and
for the wheel in question. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal

Unscrew and remove the centring pin. 
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is Nng

Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal

an initial maximum force of 80 Nm. 
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal

ern in the order indicated 1 to 5 with
the speciNed tightening torque of 150 Nm. 434

The wheel or tyre size and the tyre type of the
emer
gency spare wheel or spare wheel and
the wheel to be replaced may diMer. The emer-
gency spare wheel or spare wheel can signiN-
cantly impair driving characteristics of the
vehicle.
To prevent hazardous situations: 
Drive carefully. 
Never Nt mor
e than one emergency
spare wheel or spare wheel that diMers
in size. 
Only use an emergency spare wheel or
spar
e wheel brieOy. 
Do not deactivate ESP n
. 
Have the emergency spare wheel or
spar

e wheel of a diMerent size replaced
at the nearest qualiNed specialist work- shop. The new wheel must have the cor-

ect dimensions. %
The emergency spare wheel is fastened in the

Observe the following notes on Ntting an emer
-
gency spare wheel:
= The maximum permissible speed with an
emergency spare wheel Ntted is 80 km/h.
= Do not Nt the emergency spare wheel with
snow chains.
= Replace the emergency spare wheel aser six
years at the latest, regardless of wear.
= Use the wheel bolts that are included with the
emergency spare wheel.
= Check the tyre pressure of the emergency
spare wheel Ntted. Correct the pressure as
necessary.
% The speciNed tyr
e pressure is stated on the
label of the emergency spare wheel. Wheels and tyres

Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring sys-
t em: if an emergency spare wheel is Ntted, the
tyre pressure monitoring system cannot func-
tion reliably. For a few minutes aser an emer-
gency spare wheel is Ntted, the system may
still display the tyre pressure of the removed
wheel. Only restart the system again when the
emergency spare wheel has been replaced
with a new wheel.

with EU Directives. The data stated only applies to
vehicles with standard equipment. You can obtain
further information from a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
Only for certain countries: you can Nnd vehicle-
speciNc vehicle data in the COC documents (CER-
TIFICATE OF CONFORMITY). These documents

vehicle electronics and jeopardise the operat-

improper operation of two-way radios
If you use two-way radios in the vehicle
im
properly, their electromagnetic radiation
can disrupt the vehicle's electronics. This is
the case in the following situations, in particu-
lar: =

o-way radio is not connected to an
exterior aerial.
= The exterior aerial is Ntted incorrectly or is
not a low-reOection aerial.
This could jeopardise the operating safety of
the vehicle. 
Have the lo
w-reOection exterior aerial Nt-
ted at a qualiNed specialist workshop. 
When operating two-way radios in the

ehicle, always connect them to the low-
reOection exterior aerial. *
