Function of Drive Away Assist
Dr
ive Away Assist can reduce the severity of an
impact when pulling away. If an obstacle is detec-
ted in the direction of travel, the vehicle's speed
is brieOy reduced to approx. 2 km/h. If a critical
situation is detected, the É symbol appears in
the media display. Drive Away Assist can be deactivated or activated
in t

( page 301).
% You can cancel an intervention by Drive Away

WARNING Risk of accident caused b
y limi-
ted detection performance of Drive Away
Assist
Drive Away Assist cannot always clearly iden-
tify objects and tr

aPc situations.
Always pay careful attention to the tr
aPc
situation; do not rely on Drive Away
Assist alone.
Be prepared to brake or swerve as nec-
essar

y, provided the traPc situation per-
mits and that it is safe to take evasive
action. Drive Away Assist is only an aid. It is not a substi-
tut

e for your attention to the surroundings. The
responsibility for safe manoeuvring and parking
remains with you. Make sure that no persons, ani- mals or objects etc. are in the manoeuvring
r
ange.
A risk of collision may occur in the following situa-
tions, forexample: = If the accelerator and brake pedals are inter-
changed.
= If an incorrect transmission position is
engaged.
Drive Away Assist is active under the following
conditions:
= If Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is activated.
= If you shis the transmission position to k or
h when the vehicle is stationary.
= If the detected obstacle is less than approx.
1.0 m away.
= If the manoeuvring assistance function is acti-
vated in the multimedia system.

Cross T
raPc Alert can warn drivers of any cross-
ing traPc when reversing and manoeuvring out of
a parking space. The radar sensors in the bumper
also monitor the area adjacent to the vehicle. If a
critical situation is detected, the / symbol
appears in the media display and the vehicle can
be braked automatically.
If the radar sensors are obstructed by vehicles or
other objects, detection is not possible.
Cross TraPc Alert is active under the following
conditions:

Function of Trailer Manoeuvring Assist
&
WARNING Risk of accident due t
o unsuita-
ble trailers
Trailers with a steered axle or a Nsh wheel
canno
t be used with Trailer Manoeuvring
Assist. Due to this, the trailer cannot be manoeuvred
in t
he desired direction and you can cause a
collision or the trailer can overturn.
Only use Trailer Manoeuvring Assist with
tr
ailers with Nxed drawbars and axles. *
NOTE Damag
e to trailers with a stabilisa-
tion device against swerving In the case of trailers with a stabilisation
de
vice against swerving, the trailer or trailer
tow hitch could be damaged.
If a trailer coupling with Trailer Manoeu-
vr

ing Assist is used, only use trailers
without a stabilisation device against
swerving. *
NOTE Damag
e due to overhanging loads
in front or drawbar installations The vehicle and the trailer may be damaged
dur

ing manoeuvring due to overhanging loads
at the front of the trailer or drawbar installa-
tions. Driving and parking

Pay attention to overhanging loads or
dr
awbar installations while manoeuvring. Trailer Manoeuvring Assist assists you when
r

eversing with a trailer. By means of a turning
angle sensor in the trailer coupling, Trailer
Manoeuvring Assist monitors the articulation
angle between the vehicle and trailer and adjusts
it to a speciNed value.
Trailer Manoeuvring Assist is only an aid. It is not
a substitute for your attention to the surround-
ings. The responsibility for safe manoeuvring and
parking remains with you. Make sure that there
are no persons, animals or objects in the manoeu-
vring area while manoeuvring and parking in/exit-
ing parking spaces.
You can either enter the articulation angle value
directly via the multimedia system or use a
straightening manoeuvre. When carrying out a
straightening manoeuvre, the system calculates
the articulation angle automatically and straight-
ens the vehicle/trailer combination to the trailer's
current direction. Trailer Manoeuvring Assist must be taught-in
bef
ore it can adjust the articulation angle
( page 302).
Observe the notes on towing a trailer
( page 303).
System limits
Observe the system limits of the following func-
tions:
= Active Parking Assist ( page 296)
= 360° Camera ( page 288)
= Reversing camera ( page 285)
The system may be impaired or may not function
in the following situations:
= The gradient is greater than approximately
15 %.
Using Trailer Manoeuvring Assist
Requirements:
= The vehicle has been started and is stationary.
= A trailer has been detected.
= The gradient is less than approximately 15%. =
The electr ic parking brake is not applied.
Teaching in Trailer Manoeuvring Assist
Drive forwards a short distance with the car/
tr
ailer combination.
The completed teach-in process is shown in
the media display.
% The maximum articulation angle depends on
t

he length of the trailer. This is calculated by
the system by driving the vehicle forwards,
including cornering. Before the length of the
trailer has been calculated, the maximum
articulation angle is approximately 23°. The
longer the trailer is, the higher the maximum
articulation angle (max. approximately 60°). 302

Ensure the following before starting a journey:
= The tyr
e pressure on the rear axle of the tow-
ing vehicle is set for a maximum load
= The lighting of the connected trailer is opera-
tional
In the event of increased rear axle load, the car/
trailer combination must not exceed a maximum
speed of 100 km/h for reasons concerning the
operating permit. This also applies in countries in
which the permissible maximum speed for car/
trailer combinations is above 100 km/h.
Vehicles with AIRMATIC or E-ACTIVE BODY CON-
TROL: if the socket of the trailer hitch is occupied,
e.g. by a trailer or rear bicycle rack, the vehicle is
set to the normal level regardless of the drive pro-
gram at speeds greater than 30 km/h.

NOTE Damag
e to the vehicle due to incor-
rect use of the trailer hitch When a trailer hitch is used to recover a vehi-
cle, t
he vehicle may be damaged in the proc-
ess.
Use the trailer hitch only for pulling a
tr

ailer or attaching approved carrier sys-
tems (e.g. a bicycle rack). Requirements:
= The v
