Notes on electrical fuses
&WARNING Risk of accident and injury due
to overloaded lines
If you manipulate or bridge a faulty fuse or if
you replace it with a fuse with a higher amper-
age, the electric line could be overloaded.
This could result in a "Nre.
Always replace faulty fuses with speci-
"Ned new fuses containing the correct
amperage.*NOTE Damage due to incorrect fuses
Using incorrect fuses can result in damage to
electrical components or systems or their functions being considerably restricted.
Use only fuses approved for Mercedes-
Benz with the respective speci"Ned fuse
rating.
Blown fuses must be replaced with fuses of the
same rating, which you can recognize by the color and the label. The fuse ratings and further infor-
mation to be observed can be found in the fuse
assignment diagram.

*NOTE Damage or malfunctions caused by
moisture
Moisture may cause damage to the electrical
system or cause it to malfunction.
When the fuse box is open, make sure
that no moisture can enter the fuse box.When closing the fuse box, make sure
that the seal of the lid is positioned cor-
rectly on the fuse box.
If the newly inserted fuse also blows, have the cause traced and recti"Ned at a quali"Ned specialist
workshop.
Ensure the following before replacing a fuse: = The vehicle is secured against rolling away.
= All electrical consumers are switched o"M.
= The vehicle is switched o"M.
The electrical fuses are located in various fuse
boxes:
= Fuse box in the engine compartment on the
le"s-hand side of the vehicle, when viewed in
the direction of travel (  page 350)
= Fuse box on the driver\bs side of the cockpit
(  page 350)
= Fuse box in the front passenger footwell
(  page 350)

Requirement = You need a dry cloth and a screwdriver.
Observe the notes on electrical fuses
(  page 349).
Opening
&WARNING Risk of injury from using the
windshield wipers when the hood is open
If the windshield wipers start moving when the
hood is open, you could be trapped by the
wiper linkage.
Always switch o"M the windshield wipers
and vehicle before opening the hood.Remove any existing moisture from the fuse
box using a dry cloth.Loosen screws 2 and remove fuse box lid 1
from the top.
Closing
Check whether the seal is positioned correctly
in the lid.Insert the lid into the holder at the rear of the fuse box.Fold down the lid of the fuse box and tightenscrews 2.Close the hood.

The fuse box is on the driver\bs side on the side of
the cockpit under a cover.
Mercedes-Benz recommends you have the fuse box opened at an authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center.

Notes on noise or unusual handling characteris-tics
Make sure there are no vibrations, noises or unusual handling characteristics when the vehicle
is in motion. This may indicate that the wheels or
tires are damaged. Hidden tire damage could also
be causing the unusual handling characteristics.
If you suspect that a tire is defective, reduce yourspeed immediately and have the tires and wheels
checked at a quali"Ned specialist workshop.
Notes on regularly inspecting wheels and tires
&WARNING Risk of injury through damaged
tires
Damaged tires can cause tire pressure loss.
Check the tires regularly for signs of
damage and replace any damaged tires immediately.&WARNING Risk of hydroplaning due to
insu"Pcient tire tread
*nsu"Pcient tire tread will result in reduced tire
grip.
In heavy rain or slush the risk of hydroplaning is increased, in particular where speed is not
adapted to suit the conditions.
Thus, you should regularly check the
tread depth and the condition of the
tread across the entire width of all tires.
Minimum tread depth for:
= Summer tires:

Notes on snow chains&WARNING Risk of accident due to incor-
rectly installed snow chains
If you have installed snow chains on the front wheels, they may drag against the vehicle
body or chassis components.
Never install snow chains on the front
wheels.Only install snow chains on the rear
wheels in pairs.*NOTE Damage to components of the vehi-
cle body or chassis due to mounted snow
chains
If you mount snow chains to the front wheels
of 4MATIC vehicles, you may damage compo-
nents of the vehicle body or chassis.
Only mount snow chains to the rear
wheels of 4MATIC vehicles.
= Snow chains are only permissible for certain
wheel/tire combinations. You can obtain infor-
mation about this from an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
= For safety reasons, only use snow chains that
have been speci"Ncally approved for your vehi-
cle by Mercedes-Benz, or snow chains with
the same quality standard.
= Comply with the installation instructions of the
snow chain manufacturer.
= If snow chains are installed, the maximum per-
missible speed is 30 mph (50 km/h).
= Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: do not use
Active Parking Assist when snow chains are
installed.\bYou can deactivate ESP n
to pull away
(  page 191). This allows the wheels to spin,
achieving an increased driving force.Tire pressure

&WARNING Risk of accident due to insu"P-
cient or excessive tire pressure
Underin"Oated or overin"Oated tires pose in par-
ticular the following risks:
= The tires can burst.
= The tires can wear excessively and/or
unevenly.
= The driving characteristics as well as the
steering and braking characteristics may
be greatly impaired.
Comply with the recommended tire pres-
sures and check the tire pressure of all
tires, including the spare wheel, regu-
larly:
= Monthly
= When the load changes
= Before embarking on a longer journey

=If operating conditions change, e.g. o"M-
road drivingAdjust the tire pressure, if necessary.
Tire pressure which is too high or too low can:
= Shorten the service life of the tires.
= Cause increased tire damage.
= Adversely a"Mect driving characteristics and
thus driving safety, e.g. due to hydroplaning.
&WARNING Risk of accident due to too low
a tire pressure
Tires with pressure that is too low can over-
heat and burst as a consequence.
In addition, they also su"Mer from irregular
wear, which can signi"Ncantly impair the brak-
ing properties and the handling characteris-
tics.
Avoid excessively low tire pressure.
Tire pressure which is too low can cause:
= Tire defects as a result of overheating
=Impaired handling characteristics
= Irregular wear
= Increased fuel consumption&WARNING Risk of accident due to too high
a tire pressure
Tires with excessively high pressure can burst.
In addition, they also su"Mer from irregular
wear, which can signi"Ncantly impair the brak-
ing properties and the handling characteris-
tics.
Avoid excessively high tire pressures.
Tire pressure which is too high can cause:
= Increased braking distance
= Impaired handling characteristics
= Irregular wear
= Impaired driving comfort
= Susceptibility to damage
&WARNING Risk of accident due to repea-
ted pressure drop in the tires
The wheels, valves or tires could be damaged.
Too low a tire pressure can lead to the tires
bursting.
Examine the tires for foreign objects.Check whether the tire has a puncture or
the valve has a leak.If you are unable to rectify the damage,
contact a quali"Ned specialist workshop.
You can "Nnd information on the recommended
tire pressures for the vehicle\bs factory-installed
tires on the following labels:
= Tire and Loading Information placard on the

permit any reliable conclusion about the tire pres-
sure.
Only correct tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Conditions for cold tires:
= The vehicle has been parked with the tires out
of direct sunlight for at least three hours.
= The vehicle has traveled less than 1 mile
(1.6 km).
The vehicle\bs tires heat up when driving. As the temperature of the tires increases, so too doesthe tire pressure.
Vehicles with a tire pressure monitoring system: you can also see the tire pressure in the driver\bsdisplay (  page 357).
The tire pressure recommended for increased
load/speed in the tire pressure table can a"Mect
the ride comfort.&WARNING Risk of accident due to unsuita-
ble accessories on tire valves
If you mount unsuitable accessories onto tire
valves, the tire valves may be overloaded and
malfunction, which can cause tire pressure
loss.Only screw standard valve caps or valve
caps speci"Ncally approved by Mercedes-
Benz for your vehicle onto the tire valve.
Notes on trailer operation
Always in"Oate the rear axle tires to the recommen-
ded tire pressure on the tire pressure table for
increased load.
Tire pressure table
The tire pressure table is on the inside of the fuel "Nller "Oap.
\bThe data shown in the images is example
data.
The tire pressure table shows the recommended
tire pressure for all tires approved for this vehicle.
The recommended tire pressures apply for cold
tires under various operating conditions, i.e. load-
ing and/or speed of the vehicle.
If one or more tire sizes precede a tire pressure,
the following tire pressure information is only valid for those tire sizes and their respective load con-
dition.
The load conditions "partially laden" and "fully
laden" are de"Nned in the table for di"Merent num-
bers of passengers and amounts of luggage. The actual number of seats may di"Mer from this.

Some tire pressure tables only show the rim diam-eter instead of the complete tire size, e.g. R18.
The rim diameter is part of the tire size and can
be found on the tire side wall (  page 367).

Checking the tire pressure manuallyRead the tire pressure recommended for the
current operating conditions from the tire and
loading information placard or the tire pres-
sure table. Observe the notes on tire pressure.Remove the valve cap of the tire to be
checked.Press the tire pressure gauge securely onto the valve.Read the tire pressure.If the tire pressure is lower than the recom-
mended value, increase the tire pressure to
the recommended value.If the tire pressure is higher than the recom- mended value, release air. To do so, press
down the metal pin in the valve, e.g. using the
tip of a pen. Then check the tire pressure
again using the tire pressure gauge.Screw the valve cap onto the valve.

&DANGER Risk of accident due to incorrect
tire pressure
Each tire, including the spare (if provided),
should be checked monthly when cold and
in"Oated to the in"Oation pressure recommen-
ded by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehi-
cle placard or tire in"Oation pressure label. (If
your vehicle has tires of a di"Merent size than
the size indicated on the vehicle placard or
tire in"Oation pressure label, you should deter-
mine the proper tire in"Oation pressure for
those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pres-sure telltale when one or more of your tires is
signi"Ncantly under-in"Oated. Accordingly, when

the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, you
should stop and check your tires as soon as
possible, and in"Oate them to the proper pres-
sure. Driving on a signi"Ncantly under-in"Oated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead
to tire failure. Under-in"Oation also reduces fuel
e"Pciency and tire tread life, and may a"Mect
the vehicle!

One of the following displays appears:
= Current tire pressure of each wheel:
=Tire pressure displayed after driving for a
few minutes. : current values are not yet
known to the system. The pressure/tempera-
ture values of each tire will be displayed as
soon as they are known to the system.
= Tire Pressure Monitor Active : the teach-in
process of the system is not yet complete. The
tire pressures are already being monitored.
Compare the current tire pressure with the
recommended tire pressure for the currentoperating mode (  page 355). Additionally,
observe the notes on cold tires (  page 353).\bThe values displayed on the driver\bs display
may deviate from those of the tire pressure
gauge as they refer to sea level. At high eleva-
tions, the tire pressure values indicated by a tire pressure gauge will be higher than those
shown on the driver\bs display.

Requirements
= The recommended tire pressure is correctly
set for the respective operating status on each
of the four wheels (  page 353).
Restart the tire pressure monitoring system in the
following situations:
= The tire pressure has changed.
= The wheels or tires have been changed or
newly installed.

The Tire Pressure Monitor Restarted message
is shown in the driver\bs display.
Current warning messages are deleted and
the yellow w warning lamp goes out.
A"ser you have been driving for a few minutes,
the system checks whether the current tire
pressures are within the speci"Ned range. The
current tire pressures are then accepted as reference values and monitored.
If the tire pressure levels are not within the
speci"Ned range, the Please Correct Tire Pres-
sure message appears.
