The seat belts on the following seats are equipped
with a child seat safety feature:
= Front passenger seat
= Rear seats
When enabled, the child seat safety feature
ensures that the seat belts of the front passenger seat and rear seats do not slacken once the child
restraint system is secured.For a child restraint system in the "Universal" or "Semi-Universal" category, make sure that the system has been approved for the vehicle
seat.Install the child restraint system. The entire base of the child restraint system must always rest on the surface of the seat.Always make sure that the shoulder belt strapis correctly routed from the seat belt outlet of
the vehicle to the shoulder belt guide on the
child restraint system.
The shoulder belt strap must be routed for-
wards from the seat belt outlet and, where
possible, downwards to the child restraint sys- tem.When installing on the rear seat: also secure
Top Tether if present.When installing on the front passenger seat: if
necessary, adjust the seat belt outlet and the front passenger seat accordingly.
Child safety locks
Activating or deactivating the child safety lock for
the rear doors

If you leave children unattended in the vehicle,
they could, in particular:
= open doors, thereby endangering other
persons or road users.
= get out and be struck by oncoming tra"Pc.
= operate vehicle equipment and become
trapped, for example.
In addition, the children could also set the
vehicle in motion by, for example:
= releasing the parking brake.
= changing the gearbox position.
= starting the vehicle.Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.When leaving the vehicle, always take the key with you and lock the vehicle.Keep the key out of reach of children.&WARNING Risk of fatal injury due to expo-
sure to extreme heat or cold in the vehicle
If persons, particularly children, are subjected
to prolonged exposure to intense heat or cold,
there is a risk of severe injury or even death.
Never leave persons, particularly chil-

If children are traveling in the vehicle, they

Always activate the installed child safety
locks if children are traveling in the vehi-
cle.Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.When leaving the vehicle, always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.There are child safety locks for the rear doors and
the rear side windows.
The child safety lock on the rear doors secures
each door separately. The doors can no longer be opened from the inside.
Press the lever in direction 1 (activate) or 2
(deactivate).Make sure that the child-proof locks are work-
ing properly.Activating and deactivating the child safety lock
for the rear side windowsTo activate/deactivate: press button 2.
The rear side window can be opened or closed
in the following cases:
= Indicator lamp 1 is lit: via the switch on

Activating/deactivating the panic alarm
Requirements
= The vehicle is switched o"M.
To activate: press button 1 for approximately
one second.
A visual and audible alarm is triggered.To deactivate: brie"Oy press button 1 again.

Press the start/stop button.
A key belonging to the vehicle must be detec-
ted in the vehicle.
Changing the unlocking settings
Possible unlocking functions of the SmartKey:
= Central unlocking
= Unlocking the driver\bs door and fuel "Nller "Oap

\bYou have the following options to reactivate
the key:
= Press any button on the key.
= Start the vehicle with the key in the center
console stowage space (  page 153).
Removing/inserting the mechanical key

Press release button 1.
Emergency key 2 is pushed out slightly.Pull out mechanical key 2 until it engages in
the intermediate position.Press release button 1 again and fully
remove mechanical key 2.
Inserting the mechanical key
Press release button 1.Insert mechanical key 2 to the intermediate
position or fully until it engages.\bYou can use the intermediate position of
mechanical key 2 to attach the key to a key
ring.
Replacing the key battery
&DANGER Risk of fatal injury due to swal-
lowing batteries
Batteries contain toxic and corrosive substan-
ces. If batteries are swallowed or otherwise
enter the body, severe internal burns can
occur within two hours.
There is a risk of fatal injury!
Keep the batteries out of the reach of
children.If the lid and/or the battery compart-
ment do not close securely, stop using
the key and keep it away from children.If batteries are swallowed or otherwise
enter the body, seek immediate medical
attention.+ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental
damage due to improper disposal of bat-
teries
Batteries contain pollutants. It is illegal
to dispose of them with the household rub-
bish.

Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally responsible manner.
Take discharged batteries to a quali"Ned
specialist workshop or to a collection
point for used batteries.

Requirements
= You require a CR 2032 3 V cell battery.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have the battery replaced at a quali"Ned specialist work-
shop.Remove the mechanical key (  page 74).Press release knob 2 down fully and slide
cover 1 in the direction of the arrow.Fold out cover 1 in the direction of the arrow
and remove.Remove battery compartment 3 and take
out the discharged battery.Insert the new battery into battery compart-
ment 3. Observe the positive pole marking in
the battery compartment and on the battery when doing this.Push in battery compartment 3.Re-attach cover 1 and push it until it
engages.
Problems with the key, troubleshooting
You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle
Possible causes are:
= The key battery is weak or discharged.
Check the battery using the indicator lamp
(  page 72).Replace the key battery, if necessary
(  page 74).Use the replacement key.Use the mechanical key to lock or unlock
(  page 79).Have key checked at a quali"Ned specialist
workshop.There is interference from a powerful radio signal
source
Possible causes if the function of the key is impaired:
= high voltage power lines
= mobile phones
= electronic devices (notebooks, tablets)
= shielding due to metal objects or induction
loops for electrical gate systems or automatic
barriersMake sure that there is su"Pcient distance
between the key and the potential source of
interference.
You have lost a key
Have the key deactivated at a quali"Ned spe-
cialist workshop.If necessary, have the mechanical lock

Doors
Unlocking/opening the doors from the inside
To unlock and open a front door: pull door
handle 2.
Locking pin 1 pops up when the door is
unlocked.To unlock a rear door: pull the rear door han-
dle.
The locking pin pops up when the rear door is
unlocked.To open a rear door: pull the rear door handle
again.Centrally locking and unlocking the vehicle from the insideTo unlock: press 1 button.To lock: press button 2.
This does not lock or unlock the fuel "Nller "Oap.
The vehicle is not unlocked:
= if you have locked the vehicle using the key
=if you have locked the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO
Locking/unlocking the vehicle with KEYLESS-GO
Requirements
= The key is outside the vehicle.
= The distance between the key and the vehicle
does not exceed 3 "s (1 m).
= The driver\bs door and the door on which the
door handle is used are closed.
*NOTE Vehicle damage due to uninten-
tional opening of the tailgate
= When using an automatic car wash
= When using a high pressure cleaner
Deactivate the function of the SmartKey
in these situations.
or
Make sure that the SmartKey is at a min-
imum distance of 10 "s (3 m) away from

Observe the notes:

(  page 324)To unlock the vehicle: touch the inner surface
of the door handle.To lock the vehicle: touch sensor surface 1

surface 2 until the closing process has been

If you open the tailgate from outside, it is auto-
matically unlocked.
Problems with KEYLESS-GO, troubleshooting
You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-GO
Possible causes: = The function of the SmartKey has been deacti-
vated.
= The SmartKey battery is weak or discharged.
Activate the function of the SmartKey
(  page 73).Check the battery using the indicator lamp
(  page 72).Replace the SmartKey battery, if necessary
(  page 74).Use the replacement SmartKey.Use the emergency key to lock or unlock
(  page 79).Have the vehicle and SmartKey checked at a
quali"Ned specialist workshop.
There is interference from a powerful radio signal

Activating/deactivating the automatic locking fea-ture
The vehicle is locked automatically when the vehi-
cle is switched on and the wheels are turning
faster than walking pace.
To activate: press and hold button 2 for
approximately "Nve seconds until an acoustic
signal sounds.To deactivate: press and hold button 1 for
approximately "Nve seconds until an acoustic
signal sounds.
In the following situations, there is a danger of
being locked out when the function is activated:
= while the vehicle is being tow-started or
pushed
= if the vehicle is being tested on a roller dyna-
mometer

mometer.
Power closing function
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
the doors close automatically
Body parts or objects can become trapped,
causing injuries.
Ensure that no body parts or objects are
in the closing area.Automatic closing of the doors can be
canceled by pulling the outer or inner
door handle.
If you push the door into the lock to the "Nrst
detent position, the power closing function will
automatically pull the door into the lock.
