Deactivating rear climate controlSelect REAR OFF .
The rear climate control is deactivated.
Switching the synchronization function on/oM via
the air conditioning control panel
Climate control can be set centrally using the syn-
chronization function. The temperature and air
distribution setting for the driver\bs side will be adopted automatically for all climate control
zones.
Press the  button.
The synchronization function will be deactivated if
the settings for one of the other climate zones are
changed.
Switching the synchronization function on/oM via
the multimedia system
Multimedia system:

First Row of Seats
Climate control can be set centrally using the syn-
chronization function. The driver\bs settings for
temperature, air quantity and air distribution will
be adopted automatically for all climate zones.Select SYNC and switch on or oM.
Defrosting windows
Windows fogged up on inside
Press the X button.If the windows remain fogged up: press
the d button.
Windows fogged up on outside
Switch on the windshield wiper.Press the X button.
Switching air-recirculation mode on/oM
Press the r button.
The interior air will be recirculated.
Air-recirculation mode automatically switches to
fresh air mode aser a while.
\bIf air-recirculation mode is switched on, the
windows may fog up more quickly. Switch on
air-recirculation mode only brieOy.
Switching the residual heat on or oM
Requirements:
= The vehicle is parked.
It is possible to make use of the residual heat from the engine to continue heating or ventilating
the front compartment of the vehicle for approx-
imately 30 minutes, depending on the tempera- ture set.
To activate: press V button.
Residual heat will be switched oM automatically.
Switching the residual heat in the rear passenger
compartment on/oM
Requirements
= The vehicle is parked.
When the residual heat of the engine is activated in the rear passenger compartment, you can heat

or ventilate the rear passenger compartment forapproximately 30 minutes.Press button 5 ( page 167).
Activating/deactivating ionization

Air Quality
Ionization improves the quality of the vehicle\bs interior air. Ionization of the interior air is odor-
less.
Select IONIZATION and activate or deactivate
the function.
Fragrance system
Setting the fragrance system
Requirements
= Automatic climate control is activated.
= The glove box is closed.

Air Quality
The fragrance system distributes a pleasant fra-
grance throughout the vehicle interior from a Oa-
con located in the glove box.Select AIR FRESHENER .Keep pressing until the desired intensity is
reached.
Inserting or removing the Oacon of the fragrance
system
&WARNING Risk of injury from liquid per-
fume
If children open the Oacon, they could drink
the liquid perfume or it could come into con-
tact with their eyes.
Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle.Consult a doctor immediately if liquid
perfume has been drunk.If liquid perfume comes into contact with
your eyes or skin, rinse your eyes with
clean water.If symptoms continue, consult a doctor.+ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental
damage due to improper disposal of full
Oacons
Full Oacons must not be disposed of
with household waste.

Full Oacons must be taken to a
harmful substance collection point.

1Cap2FlaconTo insert: slide the Oacon into the holder as far
as it will go.To remove: aser opening the glove box, wait
for approximately seven seconds and pull out
the Oacon.If you do not use genuine Mercedes-Benz interior
perfumes, observe the manufacturers\b safety noti-ces on the perfume packaging.
Dispose of the genuine Mercedes-Benz interior
perfume Oacon when it is empty and do not reNll
it.
ReNllable OaconUnscrew the cap of the empty Oacon.Fill the Oacon with a maximum of 0.5 O. oz.
(15 ml).Screw the cap back onto the Oacon.
Always reNll the empty reNllable Oacon with the
same perfume. Observe the separate information
sheet with the Oacon.
Information on the windshield heater
The windshield heater is switched on automati-
cally when the d button is activated.
In addition, it is automatically switched on when
necessary.
Air vents
Adjusting the front air vents
&WARNING Risk of burns or frostbite due to
being too close to the air vents
Very hot or very cold air can Oow from the air
vents.
Make sure that all vehicle occupants always maintain a suPcient distance
from the air vents.If necessary, direct the airOow to another
area of the vehicle interior.
To ensure the Oow of fresh air through the air
vents into the vehicle interior, note the following:
= Always keep the vents and ventilation grilles in
the vehicle interior clear.
= Keep the air inlet free of residue build-up
(  page 345).
= Optimum climate comfort is achieved with the
air vents in the center position.

To open or close center air vent: turn control-
ler 2 up or down as far as it will go.To open or close side air vents: turn control-
ler 2 to the les or right as far as it will go.To adjust the air direction: hold air vent 1 in

To set the airOow direction: hold the center of
air vent 1 and move it accordingly.To open or close: turn controller 2 as far as
it will go.
Air vents above the second row of seats, towards the cargo compartment (Mercedes-Maybach vehicles)
To open or close: turn controller 1 as far as
it will go.Opening or closing the air vent in the glove box*NOTE Damage to temperature-sensitive
objects in the glove box
Temperature-sensitive objects stored in the
glove box may be damaged by the air vent located inside it.
Close the air vent when you heat thevehicle.At high outside temperatures, open the
air vent and switch on the A/C function.
The automatic climate control must be switched
on to cool the glove box.

Switching on the power supply or the vehicle&WARNING Risk of accident and injury due
to children les unattended in the vehicle
If children are les unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could, in particular:
= open doors, thereby endangering other
persons or road users.
= get out and be struck by oncoming traPc.
= operate vehicle equipment and become
trapped, for example.
In addition, the children could also set the
vehicle in motion, for example by:
= releasing the parking brake.
= changing the transmission position.
= starting the vehicle.
Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.When leaving the vehicle, always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.Keep the vehicle SmartKey out of reach
of children.
Requirements
= the key is in the vehicle and is detected.
= the brake pedal is not depressed.

To switch on the power supply: press button
1 once.
You can, for example, switch on the windshield
wiper.
The power supply is switched oM again if the fol-
lowing conditions are met:
= you open the driver\bs door.
= you press button 1 twice more.
To switch on the vehicle: press button 1
twice.
Indicator and warning lamps light up on the
instrument cluster.
The vehicle is switched oM again if one of the fol-
lowing conditions is met:
= you do not start the vehicle within 15 minutes
and the transmission is in position ] or the
electric parking brake is applied.
= you press button 1 once.
Starting the vehicle
Starting the vehicle with the start/stop button
&DANGER Risk of death caused by exhaust
gases
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide. Inhaling
these exhaust gases is hazardous to health
and leads to poisoning.
Never leave the engine or, if present, the
auxiliary heating running in an enclosed
space without suPcient ventilation.&WARNING Risk of Nre due to Oammable
material in the engine compartment or the
exhaust system
Flammable materials may ignite.
Therefore, check regularly that there are
no Oammable materials in the engine
compartment or on the exhaust system.
Requirements: = The key is in the vehicle and is recognized.
Shis the transmission to position ] or \\.Depress the brake pedal and press button 1
once.If the vehicle does not start: switch oM non-
essential consumers and press button 1
once.If the vehicle still does not start and the Place
the Key in the Marked Space See Operator's
Manual display message appears on the
Instrument Display: start the vehicle with the
key in the marked space (emergency opera-
tion mode) (  page 177).\bYou can switch oM the vehicle while driving. To
do this, press button 1 for about three sec-
onds or press button 1 three times within
three seconds. Be sure to observe the safety
notes concerning this under "Driving tips"
(  page 180).
Observe any information regarding display mes-
sages that can be displayed on the Instrument Display.

Starting the vehicle with the key in the stowage
compartment (emergency operation mode) If the vehicle does not start and the Place the
Key in the Marked Space See Operator's Manual
message appears in the instrument display, youcan start the vehicle in emergency operation
mode.Make sure that marked space 2 is empty.Remove key 1 from the key ring.Place key 1 in marked space 2 next to
symbol 3.
The vehicle will start aser a short time.
If you remove key 1 from marked space 2,
the vehicle can still be driven. For further
engine starts however, key 1 must be loca-
ted in marked space 2 next to symbol 3
during the entire journey.Have key 1 checked at a qualiNed specialist
workshop.
If the vehicle does not start:
Place key 1 in marked space 2 and leave it
there.Depress the brake pedal and start the vehicle using the start/stop button.\bYou can switch on the power supply or the
vehicle with the start/stop button.
Observe any information regarding display mes-
sages that can be displayed on the instrument display.
Starting the vehicle via Remote Online Services
Cooling or heating the vehicle interior before
starting the journey
Ensure the following before starting the engine:
= The legal stipulations in the area where your
vehicle is parked allow engine starting via
smartphone.
= It is safe to start and run the engine where
your vehicle is parked.
= The fuel tank is suPciently full.
= The starter battery is suPciently charged.
Charging the starter battery before starting the
journey
You can receive a message on your smartphone
when the state of charge of the starter battery is low. You can then start the vehicle with the smart-
phone to charge the battery. The vehicle is auto- matically switched oM aser ten minutes.
Ensure the following before starting the engine:
= The legal stipulations in the area where your
vehicle is parked allow engine starting via
smartphone.

=It is safe to start and run the engine where
your vehicle is parked.
= The fuel tank is suPciently full.
Starting the vehicle (Remote Online)&WARNING Risk of crushing or entrapment
due to unintentional starting of the engine
Limbs could be crushed or trapped if the
engine is started unintentionally during service
or maintenance work.
Always secure the engine against unin-
tentional starting before carrying out
maintenance or repair work.
Requirements
= Park position ] is selected.
= The anti-thes alarm system is not primed.
= The panic alarm is not activated.
= The hazard warning light system is switched
oM.
= The hood is closed.
= The doors are closed and locked.
=The windows and sliding sunroof are closed.Start the vehicle using the smartphone.
Aser every engine start, the engine runs for
ten minutes.
You can carry out a maximum of two consecutive
starting attempts. You must start the engine with the key before trying to start the vehicle againwith the smartphone.
You can switch oM the vehicle at any time as fol-
lows:
= Via the Smartphone App
= By pressing the Ü or ß button on the
key
\bFurther information can be found in the smartphone app.
Securing the vehicle against starting before carry-
ing out maintenance or repair work:
Switch on the hazard warning light system.
or
Unlock the doors.
or
Open a side window or the sliding sunroof.
Breaking-in notes
To preserve the engine during the Nrst
1,000 miles (1,500 km):
= Drive at varying road speeds and engine
speeds.
= Do not drive at speeds greater than 85 mph
(140 km/h).
= Drive the vehicle in driving mode A
or  .
= Shis to the next highest gear at the very latest
when the needle reaches the last third before
the red area in the tachometer.
= Do not shis down manually in order to brake.
= Avoid overstraining the vehicle, e.g. driving at
full throttle.
= Do not depress the accelerator pedal past the
pressure point (kickdown).
= Only increase the engine speed gradually and
accelerate the vehicle to full speed aser
1,000 miles (1,500 km).
