Let the tyre inOation com pressor run for a
maximum of ten minutes.
The tyre should then have attained a tyre pres-
sure of at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi).
If tyre sealant leaks out, make sure you clean the
aMect
ed area as quickly as possible. It is prefera-
ble to use clean water.
If you get tyre sealant on your clothing, have it
cleaned as soon as possible with perchloroethy-
lene.
If, aser ten minutes, a tyre pressure of 200 kPa
(2.0 bar/29 psi) has not been attained:

Unscrew the Nlling hose fr
om the valve of the
defective tyre.
Please note that tyre sealant may leak out when
unscr
ewing the Nlling hose. 
Drive forwards or in reverse very slowly for
appr
oximately 10 m.

battery
A discharged battery may freeze at tempera-
tur
es slightly above or below freezing point.
During starting assistance or battery charging,
battery gas can be released. 
Always allow a battery to thaw before
c
harging it or performing starting assis-
tance. If the indicator/warning lamps in the instrument
clus
ter do not light up at low temperatures, it is
very likely that the discharged battery has frozen.
In this case you may neither jump-start the vehi-
cle nor charge the battery.
The service life of a battery that has been thawed
may be dramatically shortened. The starting char-
acteristics may be impaired, especially at low
temperatures.
It is recommended that you have a thawed battery
checked at a qualiNed specialist workshop. All vehicles

Avoid numerous and extended attempts

o start the engine. Observe the following points during starting assis-

ance and when charging the battery:
= Only use undamaged jump lead/charging
cables with a suPcient cross-section and
insulated terminal clamps.
= Non-insulated parts of the terminal clamps
must not come into contact with other metal
parts while the jump lead/charging cable is
connected to the battery/jump-start connec-
tion point.
= The jump lead/charging cable must not come
into contact with any parts which may move
when the engine is running. 392

Alw ays make sure that neither you nor the bat-
tery is electrostatically charged.
= Keep away from Nre and naked Oames.
= Do not lean over the battery.
Observe the additional following points when
charging the battery: = Only use battery chargers tested and
approved for Mercedes-Benz.
= Read the battery charger's operating instruc-
tions before charging the battery.
Observe the additional following points during
starting assistance:
= Starting assistance may only be provided
using vehicles, batteries or other jump start
devices with a nominal voltage of 12 V.
= The vehicles must not touch.
= Vehicles with a petrol engine: jump-start the
vehicle only when the engine and exhaust sys-
tem are cold. Starting assistance and charging the 12 V battery

ing brake.
= Vehicles with automatic transmission: the
transmission is in position j.
= The vehicle and all electrical consumers are
switched oM.

tery. Begin each time with the contacts on
your own vehicle Nrst.

Observe the notes on the 12 V battery

e 389).
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have the
12 V batt
ery replaced at a qualiNed specialist
workshop, e.g. at a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
Observe the following notes if you want to replace
the battery yourself:
= Always replace a faulty battery with a battery
which meets the speciNc vehicle require-
ments. The vehicle is equipped with an AGM technol-
ogy batt

ery (Absorbent Glass Mat) or a lith-
ium-ion battery. Full vehicle functionality is
only guaranteed with an AGM battery or lith-
ium-ion battery. For safety reasons, Mercedes-
Benz recommends that you only use batteries
which have been tested and approved for your
vehicle by Mercedes-Benz.
= Carry over detachable parts, such as vent
hoses, elbow Nttings or terminal covers from
the battery being replaced.
= Make sure that the vent hose is always con-
nected to the original opening on the side of
the battery.
Fit any existing or supplied cell caps.
Otherwise, gases or battery acid could
escape.
= Make sure that detachable parts are recon-
nected in the same way. 394
