If no ve hicle is de te cted in th e adjacent lane and
a lane ch ange is permit te d, th e st eering wheel
symbol and th e ar row are shown in green 2 .
The /DQH &KDQJH WR WKH /HIW message appears,
fo r ex ample. If Ac tive Lane Change Assi st is acti‐
va te d with th e turn signal indicator but a lane
ch ange is not immediately possible, th e st eering
wheel symbol re mains green and th e ar ro w
appears gr ay 1 . When th e lane ch ange suppo rt
st arts, th e turn signal indicator is automatically
activated. If a lane ch ange is not possible within
th e defined length of time, th e ar row fa des out
and a new lane ch ange must be initiated. An
immediate lane ch ange is on ly possible on free‐
wa y section s without speed limits . If th e sy st em is impaired, Ac tive Lane Change
Assi st may be canceled. If it is canceled th e
/DQH &KDQJH &DQFHOHG message appears in th e
multifunction display and a wa rn ing to ne sounds.
