If the system does not allow you to

Traffic jams are identified by the driver,
not by the COMAND. The detour
function may also be possible if the
vehicle is traveling on a road that does
not appear on the DVD.

If you have already placed a block on a
route section,
Detour appears written
in black. A menu will appear instead of
the map (

This function allows you to select an
intermediate destination while route
guidance is active. A stopover destination
may be a gas station or a restaurant or any
other place. When the stopover
destination is reached, the system
calculates the route to the main
destination.
Entering a stopover destination
Activate the soft key display
(
page 144).
Press the St-over soft key.
The map is displayed in full view. Available soft keys
 soft key:
Shows a list of Mercedes-Benz Centers
near your location.
 soft key:
Shows a list of filling stations around
you.
 soft key:
Shows a list of parkings and multi-
storey car parks around you.
 soft key:
Shows a list of restaurants around you.
 soft key:
Shows a list of hospitals around you.
More soft key:
If you press this soft key, the
Navigation main menu will appear.
Enter Stopover will appear on the
status bar.
You can now enter an stopover
destination by

After selecting the Personal option,

The list of available personal symbols is

The symbol is activated or deactivated
depending on its previous state. You

The settings are saved.

Switching the GPS info setting on/off
When the GPS info setting is active, the
following data are displayed on the status
bar:
your current position in the form of
coordinates
the number of satellites currently
received
the height above the sea level
In the Display menu (page 151),
press the
GPS soft key.
The options
On and Off are displayed.
The symbol _ indicates the present
setting.
Use button G or g to select the
option with the symbol -.
Press button E.
Depending on the previous setting, the
GPS is switched on or off.
Press the Back soft key to confirm.
Automatic map toggling
The system automatically switches to split
view whenever it announces a driving
maneuver.
When the driving maneuver is completed,
the system reverts to the full view.i
A symbol is shown on the bottom left
side of the status bar.

This function allows you to select Points of
Interest such as gas stations, parking
facilities, shopping centers and many
more.
Activate the Navigation main menu
(
page 118).
Press G to select menu item POIs.
Press E.
The
POIs main menu will appear

You can now select a POI visible on the
map (
page 164).

In the Destination Entry menu
(
page 124) or on the map, with the
soft keys displayed, press the

If you have not entered a location in the
Destination Entry menu prior to
pressing the
POIs soft key:
The system uses the location last
entered, e.g.:
NEW YORK CITY. You
can select a POI near that location.
If no location has ever been entered,
the system naturally cannot use one. In
this case, you can select a special
destination near your position.
If you have entered a location in the
Destination Entry menu prior to
pressing the
POIs soft key:
You can select a POI near that location.
In either case, proceed as described in
paragraph “Selecting a POI around
your current location” at “Selecting a
POI category” (
page 161).

Software Updates
 Software Updates
You can update the system with a new
navigation DVD. The new DVD may include
new maps and/or new device software.
Starting an update
Switch the COMAND on (page 27).
DVDs are loaded and ejected at the
navigation computer. Ejecting

The navigation computer ejects the
DVD.
Loading
Insert the new navigation DVD into the
DVD slot with the label side up.
The message
Navigation Being
Activated Please Wait
will
appear. After that, the COMAND loads the
software on the DVD.
Shortly after that, the progress bar
appears. After some time, the progress
bar reaches 100%.
The update is completed. You can now
operate the navigation system again.
The message
Navigation Being
Activated Please Wait
appears after
the system is switched on:
for a short time
The update is completed. You can now
operate the navigation system again.
for a longer time
COMAND was unable to update the
software.

Updating may take several minutes.
During updating, the operation of
COMAND is restricted. You cannot
switch off the system.
After updating, the car should remain
outside under open sky for 10 minutes
with the ignition on.

The navigation computer is located on
the left side in the trunk (
page 115).

If you do not remove the DVD from
the slot within around 15 seconds, the
COMAND will pull the DVD into the
drive.

This includes the systems radio, CD

Information and operating center for
vehicle sound and communications
systems, including the radio and

Digital storage medium for storing lar-
ge amounts of data.
Emergency call This function places a call to a local
911 provider. It does not initiate a
->Tele Aid* call. Please note that the
911 emergency call system is a public
service. Using it without due cause is a
criminal offense.
GPS (G
lobal Positioning System)
Satellite-based system for relaying
geographic location information to and
from vehicles equipped with special re-
ceivers. Employs DVD digital maps for
navigation. Heading Up
Dynamic map alignment, map is dis-
played facing driving direction pointing
up.
Navigation DVD Contains all the destination addresses
(town, road, intersection, house num-
ber, special destinations) and the digi-
tal map material for a country or a
region for destination entry, route cal-
culation and destination guidance.

Provider is the network operator who makes
available (provides) telephone services
