The illumination of thero ad should be 40 m to
100 m and low beam must not dazzle oncoming
tra1c.
Yo u can use the headlamp range adjuster toadjust
th e light cone of the headlamps toyour vehicle's
load condition. The light cone will change as the
seats are occupied or the load compartment is loa-
ded or unloaded. This can cause visibility condi-
tions todeteriorate and you could dazzle oncoming

yo u operate a turn signal indicator while the haz-
ard warning light system is switched on, only the
turn signal lamps on there leva nt side of theve hi-
cle will light up.
The hazard warning light system will switch on
automatically in thefo llowing situations:
R The airbag is deplo yed
R The vehicle is heavily braked from a speed of
more than 70 km/h toa standstill.
The hazard warning light system will automatically
switch o. when theve hicle rega ins a speed of
more than 10 km/h aTer maximum full-stop brak-

The Intelli gent Light System ada ptsth e headlamps'
lighting function tothe cur rent driving and weather
situation.
The system comprises thefo llowing functions:

Yo u can switch the Intelligent Light System func-
tion on or o. via the on-board computer
(/ page 110).

R Releva nt areas are better illumina ted during a
journe y.
The functions will be active when low beam is
switched on. The active light function can,
forex ample, de tect
pedestrians, cyclists and animals at an earlier
stage.

signal light has been switched on or the steer-
ing wheel is turned.

time but will be switched o. automatically aTer a
maximum of thre e minutes.

Mo torw ay mode increases thera nge and bright-
ness of the cone of light, enabling better visibility. Mo
torw ay mode will automatically be activated in
th efo llowing cases:
R Your speed is greater than 110 km/h and the
ve hicle has co vered at least 1,000 m without
any signi/cant steering mo vement.
R Your speed is greater than 130 km/h.
If yo ur speed falls below 80 km/h aTer mo torw ay
mode has been activated, it will automatically be

The enhanced fog light function reduces self-daz-
zling and impr ovesth e illumination of the edge of
th e car riag ewa y. If
yo ur speed is below 70 km/h and thefo g light
has been switched on, the enhanced fog light func-
tion will automatically be activated.
The enhanced fog light function will automatically
be deactivated aTer activation in thefo llowing
cases:
R Your speed is greater than 100 km/h.

Ad aptive Highbeam Assist does not react to:
R road users without lights, e.g. pedestrians
R road users with poor lighting, e.g. cyclists
R road users whose lighting is obstructed,

On very rare occasions, Adaptive Highbeam
Assist may failto recognise other road users
with their own lighting, or may recognise them
to o late.
In these, or in similar situations, the automatic
high beam will not be deactivated or will be
activated despite the presence of other road
users. #
Always obser vethero ad and tra1c con-
ditions carefully and switch o. the high
beam in good time. The
Adaptive Highbeam Assist automatically
switches between thefo llowing settings:
R Low beam

approaching in the opposite direction or driving
ahead of theve hicle.
If yo ur speed is greater than 30 km/h and no other
ro ad users are de tected, high beam will automati-
cally be switched on.
If yo ur speed is greater than 25 km/h, the head-
lamp range will be controlled automatically
depending on the distance from other road users.
High beam will automatically be deacti vated in the
fo llowing cases:
R Your speed is lo werth an 25 km/h.
R Other road users ha vebeen de tected.
R The road is su1ciently illuminated.

Ad aptive Highbeam Assist cann ottake thero ad,

The de tection of obs tacles may be restric ted if:
R visibility is poor, e.g. in fog, heavy rain or sno w.
R the sensors are dirty or co vered.
Ad aptive Highbeam Assist is only an aid. You are
re sponsible for ensuring cor rect vehicle lighting in
accordance with the pr evailing light, visibility and
tra1c conditions.
The system's optical sensor is located behind the
windscreen near theove rhead control panel.

Pa rtial high beam uses high beam toshine past
ot her road users rather than dazzling them. The
low beam illumination area co vers theve hicle in
front.
At speeds lo werth an 25 km/h or if there is insu1-
cient street lighting, Highbeam Assist Plus will per-
fo rm thefo llowing actions:
R Partial high beam and high beam will be auto-
matically deactivated.
R The K indicator lamp on the inst rument
cluster will go out. The _symbol for High-
beam Assist Plus will remain switched on.
At speeds greater than 30 km/h, Highbeam Assist
Plus will per form thefo llowing actions:
R If no other road users are de tected, high beam
will be switched on.
R Ifot her road users are de tected, partial high
beam will be switched on.
R The K indicator lamp on the inst rument
cluster will light up.
At speeds greater than 40 km/h, Highbeam Assist
Plus will per form thefo llowing actions:
R If no other road users are de tected and the
ro ad is st raight, high beam will be switched on.

nent parts whilst replacing a bulb
Bulbs, lamps and plug connectors can become
ve ry hot during operation. When
replacing a bulb, you could burn yourself
on these component parts. #
Allow the component parts tocool down
before replacing the bulbs. Impor

R Before changing the bulbs, switch o. theve hi-
cle's lighting system. This will pr event a short
circuit.
R Use only spare bulbs of the same type and with
th e cor rect voltage.
R Use bulbs only in enclosed lamps that ha ve
been designed forth em.
R Do not use any light source that has been
dropped or has scratches on its glass tube.
Otherwise, the light source may explode.
R The light source may explode under thefo llo w-
ing conditions:
- if it is hot and youto uch it
- ifyo u drop it
- ifyo u scratch it
R Stains on the glass tube will reduce the service
life of the light source. Do not touch the glass
tube with your bare hands. If necessar y,clean
th e glass tube with alcohol or spirits while it is
cold and wipe it down with a lint-fre e cloth.
R Protect light bulbs from humidity and do not
bring them into contact with liquids.
Alw ays ensu rethe bulbs are /rmly secured.

o. the lens with the lamp housing. #

Push in the catch spring of lamp housing 1
with a suitable object, e.g. a scr ewdriver, and
prise o. lamp housing 1. #
Turn soc ket2 anti-clockwise and pull it out of
lamp housing 1. #
Pull bulb 3out of soc ket2. #
Push new bulb 3into soc ket2. #
Screw soc ket2 into lamp housing 1by
turning it clockwise. #
Place lamp housing 1in position on the leT
and engage it.

Push in the catch spring of the lamp housing
on the side of transparent lens 3with a suita-
ble object, e.g. a scr ewdriver, and prise o. the
lamp housing. #
Turn soc ket2 anti-clockwise and pull it out of
th e lamp housing. #
Pull the bulb out of soc ket2. #
Push the new bulb into soc ket2. #
Screw soc ket2 into the lamp housing by
turning it clockwise. #
Place the lamp housing in position at the side
