NOTEzWhen the ASC is activated, you may feel a
vibration in the vehicle body or hear a whin-ing sound from the engine compartment.
This indicates that the system is operating
normally. It does not indicate a malfunction.
z When the anti-lock brake system warning
lamp is illuminated, the ASC is not active.Traction control function
On slippery surfaces, the traction control
function prevents the drive wheels from spin- ning excessive, thus helping the vehicle tostart moving from a stopped condition. It also
provides sufficient driving force and steering
performance as the vehicle turns while press-
ing the acceleration pedal.
CAUT,ONz When driving a vehicle on a snowy or icy
road, be sure to install snow tyres and drive
the vehicle at moderate speeds.Stability control function
The stability control function is designed to
help the driver maintain control of the vehicle
on slippery roads or during rapid steering ma-
noeuvres. It works by controlling the engine output and brake on each wheel.
NOTEz The stability control function operates at
speeds of about 15 km/h (9 mph) or higher.“ASC OFF” switch
The ASC is automatically activated when the
ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position
or the operation mode is put in ON. You can deactivate the system by pressing down the
“ASC OFF” switch for 3 seconds or longer.
When the ASC is deactivated, the
display/
indicator will turn on. To reactivate the ASC, momentarily press the “ASC OFF” switch;
the
display/indicator is turned off.
CAUT,ONz For safety reasons, the “ASC OFF” switch
should be operated when your vehicle is stopped.CAUT,ONz Be sure to keep the ASC on while driving in
normal circumstances.NOTEz When moving out of mud, sand or fresh
snow, pressing the accelerator pedal may not
allow the engine speed to increase. In such
situations, temporarily turning off the ASC with the “ASC OFF” switch will make it
easier to move out your vehicle.
z Using the “ASC OFF” switch turns off both
the stability control function and the traction control function.
z If you continue to press the “ASC OFF”
switch after the ASC is turned off, the “mis-
taken operation protection function” will ac- tivate and the ASC will turn back on.ASC operation display or ASC

The display/indicator will blink when the ASC is operating. -ASC OFF display/ASC OFF indica-
tor
This display/indicator will turn on
when the ASC is turned off with the “ASC OFF” switch.
Active stability control (ASC)*

CAUT,ONzWhen display/indicator blinks, ASC is
operating, which means that the road is slip- pery or that your vehicle

CAUT,ONzOn vehicles with M/T, do not move the gear-
shift lever to the “N” (Neutral) position while driving at a set speed without depress-
ing the clutch pedal. The engine will run too fast and might be damaged.NOTEz Cruise control may not be able to keep your
speed on uphills or downhills.
z Your speed may decrease on a steep uphill.
You may use the accelerator pedal if you
want to stay at your set speed.
z Your speed may increase to more than the
set speed on a steep downhill. You must use the brake to control your speed. As a result,
the set speed driving is deactivated.
Cruise control switches
A- CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF switch
Used to turn on and off the cruise control.

B- SET - switch
Used to reduce the set speed and to set the
desired speed.

C- RES + switch
Used to increase the set speed and to return to
the original set speed.

D- CANCEL switch
Used to deactivate the set speed driving.NOTEz When operating the cruise control switches,
press the cruise control switches correctly. The set speed driving may be deactivated
automatically if two or more switches of the
cruise control are pressed at the same time.To activate

2.Accelerate or decelerate to your desired
speed, then push down and release the SET - switch (B) when the “CRUISE”
indication lamp is illuminated. The vehi- cle will then maintain the desired speed.NOTEz When you release the SET - switch, the ve-
hicle speed will be set.To increase the set speed
There are 2 ways to increase the set speed.
RES + switch
Push up and hold the RES + switch (C) while
driving at the set speed, and your speed will then gradually increase.
When you reach your desired speed, release
the switch. Your new cruising speed is now set.
To increase your speed in small amounts, push up the RES + switch for less than about
1 second and release it.
Each time you push up the RES + switch, your vehicle will go about 1.6 km/h (1 mph)
faster.
Accelerator pedal
While driving at the set speed, use the accel-
erator pedal to reach your desired speed and
then push down the SET - switch (B) and re- lease the switch momentarily to set a new de-
sired cruising speed.
To decrease the set speed
There are 2 ways to decrease the set speed.
SET - switch
Push down and hold the SET - switch (B) while driving at the set speed, and your speed will slow down gradually.

When you reach your desired speed, release
the switch. Your new cruising speed is now set.
To slow down your speed in small amounts, push down the SET - switch for less than
about 1 second and release it.
Each time you push down the SET - switch, your vehicle will slow down by about
1.6 km/h (1 mph).
Brake pedal
While driving at the set speed, use the brake
pedal, which disengages the cruise control,
then push down the SET - switch (B) and re-
lease the switch momentarily to set a new de- sired cruising speed.
To temporarily increase or de-
crease the speed
To temporarily increase the speed
Depress the accelerator pedal as you would
normally. When you release the pedal, you will return to your set speed.
NOTEz In some driving conditions, the set speed
driving may be deactivated. If this happens,refer to “To activate” on page 6-45 and re-
peat the speed setting procedure.
To temporarily decrease the
speed
Depress the brake pedal to decrease the
speed. To return to the previously set speed, push up the RES + switch (C).

6-48.To deactivate
The set speed driving can be deactivated as follows:
z Press the CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF
switch (A) (Cruise control will be turned off.)
z Press the CANCEL switch (D).
z Depress the brake pedal.
The set speed driving is deactivated automat-
ically in any of the following ways.
z When you depress the clutch pedal (on
vehicles with M/T).
z When your speed slows to about
15 km/h (9 mph) or more below the set
speed because of a hill, etc.
z When your speed slows to about
40 km/h (25 mph) or less.
z When the Active Stability Control
(ASC) starts operating. (if so equipped)
Refer to “Active Stability Control (ASC)” on page 6-42.:ARN,NGz On vehicles equipped with CVT, although
the set speed driving will be deactivated
when shifting to the “N” (NEUTRAL) po-
sition, never move the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position while driving.
You would have no engine braking and
could cause a serious accident.
Also, the set speed driving may be deactiva-
ted as follows:
z When the engine speed rises and ap-
proaches the tachometer

In these situations, repeat the speed settingprocedure:
z The CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF
switch is pressed.
z [Except vehicles equipped with keyless
operation system@
Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” or “ACC” position.
[Vehicles equipped with keyless opera-
tion system@
Put the operation mode in OFF or ACC.
z “CRUISE” indication lamp is turned
OFF.Forward Collision
Mitigation system (FCM)*
The Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM) uses a sensor (A) to determine the
distance and relative speed to a vehicle and a pedestrian in front. When your vehicle is ap-
proaching a vehicle or a pedestrian straight- ahead in your path and the FCM judges that
there is the risk of a collision, the system gives audible and visual warnings (Forward
collision warning function), increases the
brake fluid pressure (FCM brake prefill func- tion), and also provides braking force assis-
tance when you depress the brake pedal (FCM brake assist function) to avoid frontalcollision.
When the risk of collision increases more, the
system causes the brakes to work moderately
to encourage you to apply brakes. If the sys- tem judges that a potential collision is immi- nent, it initiates emergency braking to miti-
gate collision-caused damages or to avoid possible collision (FCM braking function).Stop lamps are illuminated during automatic
braking.If you turn the FCM ON/OFF, the Radar
sensing misacceleration Mitigation System (RMS) (Forward) also turns ON/OFF at the same time. {Vehicles equipped with the RMS

The FCM is the system to mitigate colli- sion- caused damages or to avoid colli- sions as much as possible.
The system is not intended to compensate for driver

zAgainst a vehicle: Approximately
15 km/h to 80 km/h.
z Against a pedestrian: Approximately
15 km/h to 65 km/h.CAUT,ONz The brake assist function may not be trig-
gered when the brake pedal is operated in certain ways.
Do not overly rely on the system; if your ve- hicle is in danger of collision, take all neces-
sary collision-evading actions, such as de-
pressing the brake pedal strongly regardless
of whether the system is activated or not.FCM braking function
If the system judges that there is a high risk
of your vehicle colliding with a vehicle or a pedestrian in front, the system applies the
brakes moderately to encourage you to apply the brakes.
If the system judges that a collision is un-
avoidable, it initiates emergency braking con- trol to mitigate collision-caused damages or,
if the situation permits, to avoid a collision. When the emergency braking control is trig- gered, you are warned of the hazard by a vis- ual alarm.
Once the emergency braking has worked, you
are alerted to this by a message on the infor- mation screen of the multi-information dis- play.
The FCM braking function operates at the
following vehicle speed:
z Against a vehicle: Approximately
5 km/h to 80 km/h
z Against a pedestrian: Approximately
5 km/h to 65 km/h
CAUT,ONz Do not use the FCM as a normal braking.
z After your vehicle has stopped following the
activation of the FCM, automatic braking is
released. As the vehicle will then start creep-
ing, be sure to depress the brake pedal to hold the vehicle stationary.
z When applying the brake during the auto-
matic braking condition the pedal will feel
firm.
This is not abnormal.
You can apply more pressure to the pedal to
assist in braking.
z In the following situations, the system pro-
vides neither control nor alarming.
