Turn the key toward the front of the vehicle to lock the door. After checking that the door islocked, turn the key back to the center and remove it.
Move the lock knob to the lock position to lock the door.All doors should be kept locked while driv- ing. The driver’s door can be unlocked without using the lock knob by pulling on the inside door handle. 1. Move the inside lock knob to the locked position.
2. Be sure the keys are not inside the vehi- cle. Close the door.

When parking on a hill, apply the parking brake and turn the front wheels toward thecurb on a downhill grade, away from the curb on an uphill grade.
To apply 1- Pull the lever up without pushing the
button at the end of hand grip. When the parking brake is set and theignition switch is in the “ON” position, the brake warning light in the instru- ment cluster will come on. Before driving, be sure to release the parking brake.
To release 1- Pull the lever up slightly. 2- Push and hold the button at the end of
the hand grip.
3- Push the lever downward.
CAUTION Before driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warning light is off. If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning display will appear onthe information screen in the multi-informa- tion display. If a vehicle is driven without releasing theparking brake, the brakes will be overheated, resulting in ineffective braking and possible brake failure. When the rear window defogger switch ispressed with the engine running, the outside rearview mirrors are defogged or defrosted. Current will flow through the heater elementinside the mirrors, thus clearing away frost or condensation.
The indicator light (A) will illuminate while the defogger is on. The heater will be turned off automatically in about 20 minutes.

While driving with the selector lever in the “D” (DRIVE), sports mode can be selected by pulling one of the sportronic steering wheel shifters toward you.In sports mode, rapid
shifting is possible sim-
ply by operating the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter.
Unlike the manual transaxle, sports mode allows shifting with the accelerator pedal depressed.
 To maintain good running performance, the transmission may refuse to perform an upshift when the selector lever or sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter is moved to the “+(SHIFT UP)” positi
on at certain vehicle
speeds. Also, to prevent over-revving of the engine, the transmission may refuse to per- form a downshift when the shift lever orsportronic steering wheel paddle shifter is moved to the “- (SHIFT DOWN)” position at certain vehicle speeds. When this happens, abuzzer sounds to indicate that a downshift is not going to take place.  Move the selector lever gently between the manual and main gates and between posi- tions in the manual gate. And do not operatesportronic steering wheel paddle shifter vio- lently. Excessive force could damage the selector lever or sportronic steering wheelpaddle shifter.

CAUTION Upward shifts do not take place automati- cally in sports mode. The driver must makeupward shifts in accordance with prevailing road conditions, making sure the engine rpm remains below the red zone on the tachome-ter. By rapidly moving the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter to the “- (SHIFT DOWN)” side twice, it is possible to skip one shift range (i.e., 3rd to 1st or 4th to 2nd).Since sudden engine braking or acceleration can cause a loss of traction, downshifts must be made carefully in accordance with thevehicle’s speed. Shift ranges may not change when the lateral paddle shifters are operated at the same time.NOTE
 Shift ranges can only be selected in a for- ward direction from 1st to 6th. To reverse orpark the vehicle, move the selector lever to the “R” or “P” position.

While the vehicle is stopped or being driven, move the gearshift lever from the “D” (DRIVE) position in the main shift gatetoward the driver’s seat to select manual shifting.
Each time the gearshift lever is pulled rear- ward, the transmission shifts up 1 gear. In addition, each time the gearshift lever ispushed forward, the transmission shifts down 1 gear.
Move the gearshift lever toward the front pas- senger’s seat to return to automated shifting.
 If the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated repeatedly, the transmission will also shift repeatedly.  In order to ensure driving performance, upshifting may not occur depending on the vehicle speed even if the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are oper-ated. In addition, in
order to prevent exces-
sive engine speed, the buzzer sounds and downshifting may not occur depending onthe vehicle speed even if the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated.  When driving in an aggressive manner involving high engine rpm, sudden accelera-tion and/or deceleration, the Twin Clutch SST could take longer to shift due to higher fluid temperatures.

CAUTION Before selecting a position with the engine running and the vehicle stationary, fullydepress the brake pedal to prevent the vehi- cle from creeping. Do not release the brakes until you are readyto drive away. The vehicle will begin to move as soon as the Twin Clutch SST is engaged. Depress the brake pedal with the right foot. Using the left foot could cause driver move-ment delay in case of an emergency. To prevent sudden acceleration, never run the engine at high rpms when shifting from the “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion. Operating the accelerator pedal while the other foot is resting on the brake pedal willaffect braking efficiency, may cause prema- ture wear of brake pads and may cause engine damage. Use the gearshift lever in the correct shift position in accordance with driving condi- tions. Never coast downhill backward in the driv-ing shift position { “D” (DRIVE) or manual shifting} or coast forward in the “R” (REVERSE) position.Engine stopping and increased brake pedal and steering effort could lead to an accident.
 Do not rev the engine with the brake pedal pressed when the vehicle is stationary. This can cause sudden acceleration and dam- age the Twin Clutch SST. Also, when you depress the accelerator pedalwhile holding down the brake pedal with the gearshift lever in the “D” (DRIVE) position, the engine revolutions may not rise as highas when performing the same operation with the gearshift lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position.

Good vehicle performance cannot be expected if there is a difference in wear between tires. Refer to “Tire rotation” on page 9-23.  Check the tire inflation pressure regularly.

A limited-slip differential is applied for rear wheel differential. The features of this lim-ited-slip differential are described below: Just as with a conventional differential, the wheel on one side is allowed to turn at a dif- ferent speed from the wheel on the other sidewhen the vehicle is cornering. The difference between the limited-slip differential and a conventional differential is that if the wheelon one side of the vehicle loses traction, a greater amount of torque is applied to the wheel on the other side to improve traction.
CAUTION Always use tires of the same size, same type, and same brand, and which have no wear dif-ferences. Using tires that differ in size, type, brands or the degree of wear, will increase the differential oil temperature, resulting inpossible damage to the driving system. Fur- ther, the drive train will be subjected to excessive loading, possibly leading to oilleakage, component seizure, or other serious problems.

CAUTION Do not tow all-wheel drive vehicles with the front or rear wheels on the ground (Type Aor Type B) as illustrated. This could result in damage to the drivetrain, or unstable towing. The power steering system operates while the engine is running. It helps reduce the effortneeded to turn the steering wheel. The power steering system has mechanical steering capability in case the power assist islost. If the power assist is lost for some rea- son, you will still be able to steer your vehi- cle, but you will notice it takes much moreeffort to steer. If this happens, have your vehi-cle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

If the driver’s door is opened with the key in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position or removed
from the ignition switch while the lights are on, the buzzer will sound to remind you to turn off the lights. If the driver’s door is opened with the ignition switch in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position, or if the ignition switch is moved to the “LOCK” position while the lights are on, thebuzzer will sound to remind you to turn offthe lights. In either case, the lights and buzzer will turn off automatically. Or you can turn the combination headlightsand dimmer switch to the “OFF” position to stop the buzzer.

To change the headlights from high beam to low beam and vice versa, pull the turn signallever to fully toward you (1). Switch the headlights to low beam as a courtesy when- ever there are oncoming vehicles, or whenthere is traffic moving ahead of you. An illu- minated blue light in the instrument cluster
