CHANGING A FLAT TIRE
If you have a flat tire, follow the instructions
below:
Stopping the vehicle
1. Safely move the vehicle off the road andaway from traffic.
2. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
3. Park on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Push the park button to
shif t to the P (Park) position.
4. Turn off the engine.
5. Raise the hood to warn other traffic and to signal professional road assistance
personnel that you need assistance.
6. Have all passengers get out of the ve- hicle and stand in a safe place, away
from traffic and clear of the vehicle.
WARNING
• Make sure the parking brake is se-
curely applied and the shif t position
is placed in the P (Park) position.
• Never change tires when the vehicle
is on a slope, ice or slippery areas.
This is hazardous.
• Never change tires if oncoming traf-
fic is close to your vehicle. Wait for
professional road assistance.
Blocking wheels
Place suitable blocks at both the front and
back of the wheel diagonally opposite the
flat tire to prevent the vehicle from moving
when it is jacked up.
WARNING
Be sure to block the wheel as the ve-
hicle may move and result in personal
injury.

Getting the spare tire and tools
1. Open the lif tgate and lif t the luggageboard in the cargo area using the handle. 2. Remove the jack and tool kit cover by

4. Remove the jack.
• The jack is secured by a fastener
OC.To
release the fastener, assemble the jack-
ing rod
ODinto the wheel nut wrenchOE
and rotate counterclockwise to release.
• Insert the flat end of the wheel nut wrench
OEinto the slot of the fastenerOC,
and rotate counterclockwise to release
the jack.
5. The lowering mechanism for the spare tire is located on the passenger side of
the cargo area. Remove the cover
OFto
access the lowering mechanism. 6. Attach the spare tire winch socket
OGto
the lowering mechanism nut.
7. To lower the spare tire, insert the wheel nut wrench
OEinto the jacking rodOD
and insert the T-shaped end of the jack-
ing rod into the winch socket
OGand
rotate counterclockwise.
8. Once the spare tire is lowered, release it from the vehicle by guiding the lowering
cable and winch through the center of
the tire.
NOTE:Fully lower the spare tire below the ve-
hicle before attempting to remove the
winch from the spare tire.
9. Af ter removing the spare tire from underthe vehicle, be sure to crank the cable up
by rotating the winch socket clockwise
to stow it.

CAUTION
• Make sure safety cable is coiled
above spare tire when reinstalling
spare tire/wheel. •
When re-installing the spare tire un-
der the vehicle af ter use, be sure to
secure it with the tire stem facing up
away from the ground. See FIG A.
Jacking up vehicle and removing
the damaged tire
WARNING
• Never get under the vehicle while it is
supported only by the jack. If it is nec-
essary to work under the vehicle,
support it with safety stands.
• Use only the jack provided with your
vehicle to lif t the vehicle. Do not use
the jack provided with your vehicle
on other vehicles. The jack is de-
signed for lif ting only your vehicle
during a tire change.
• Use the correct jack-up points. Never
use any other part of the vehicle for
jack support.
• If your vehicle is equipped with Run-
ning Boards use the Jack Point lo-
cated on the front or rear mounting
brackets.
• Never jack up the vehicle more than
necessary.
• Never use blocks on or under the
jack.

•Do not start or run the engine while
vehicle is on the jack. It may cause
the vehicle to move. This is especially
true for vehicles with limited slip
differentials.
• Do not allow passengers to stay in
the vehicle while it is on the jack.
• Never run the engine with a wheel(s)
off the ground. It may cause the ve-
hicle to move.
Always refer to the illustration for the cor-
rect placement and jack-up points for your
specific vehicle model and jack type.
Carefully read the caution label attached
to the jack body and the following
instructions.
WARNING
• If your vehicle is equipped with Run-
ning Boards use the Jack Point lo-
cated on the front or rear mounting
brackets. •
The Jack Point is located directly be-
hind the triangle shaped protrusion
near the front and rear of the Run-
ning Board stepping surface.

1. Loosen each wheel nut one or two turnsby turning counterclockwise with the
wheel nut wrench. Do not remove the
wheel nuts until the tire is off the
ground. 2. Place the jack directly under the jack-up
point as illustrated so the top of the jack
contacts the vehicle at the jack-up point.
The jack-up points are indicated by the
notches under the frame. If the vehicle is equipped with NISSAN
Running Boards, the jack-up points are
indicated on the running board step-
ping surface and the running board
mounting brackets.
The jack should be used on firm and
level ground.

3. Install the assembled jack rod into thejack as shown.
4. To lif t the vehicle, securely hold the jack lever and rod. Carefully raise the vehicle
until the tire clears the ground.
NOTE:
If the lug nut wrench/jack handle con-
tacts the ground while raising the ve-
hicle, disassemble the lug nut wrench
from the jack extension rod, rotate it 90
degrees and reassemble.
5. Remove the wheel nuts and then re-move the tire.
Installing the spare tire
The spare tire is designed for emergency
use. For additional information, see
“Wheels and tires” (P. 8-29).
1. Clean any mud or dirt from the surfacebetween the wheel and hub.
2. Carefully put the spare tire on and tighten the wheel nuts finger tight.
3. With the wheel nut wrench, tighten wheel nuts alternately and evenly in the
sequence illustrated (
OA,OB,OC,OD,OE)
until they are tight.

4. Lower the vehicle slowly until the tiretouches the ground. Then, with the
wheel nut wrench, tighten the wheel
nuts securely in the sequence illustrated
(
OA,OB,OC,OD,OE). Lower the vehicle
completely.
WARNING
• Incorrect wheel nuts or improperly
tightened wheel nuts can cause the
wheel to become loose or come off.
This could cause an accident.
• Do not use oil or grease on the wheel
studs or nuts. This could cause the
nuts to become loose.
• Retighten the wheel nuts when the
vehicle has been driven for 621 miles
(1,000 km) (also in cases of a flat tire,
etc.).
As soon as possible, tighten the wheel
nuts to the specified torque with a
torque wrench.
Wheel nut tightening torque: 83 f t-lb (113 N·m)
The wheel nuts must be kept tightened to
specification at all times. It is recom-
mended that wheel nuts be tightened to
specifications at each lubrication interval.
Adjust tire pressure to the COLD
pressure.
COLD pressure: Af ter vehicle has been
parked for 3 hours or more or driven less
than 1 mile (1.6 km).
COLD tire pressures are shown on the
Tire and Loading Information label af-
fixed to the driver side center pillar.
5. Securely store the flat tire, tools andjacking equipment in the vehicle.
6. Close the lif tgate.
WARNING
• Always make sure that the spare tire
and jacking equipment are properly
secured af ter use. Such items can be-
come dangerous projectiles in an ac-
cident or sudden stop.
• The spare tire is designed for emer-
gency use. For additional informa-
tion, see “Wheels and tires” (P. 8-29). To start your engine with a booster battery,
the instructions and precautions below
must be followed.
WARNING
• If done incorrectly, jump starting can
lead to a battery explosion, resulting
in severe injury or death. It could also
damage your vehicle.
• Explosive hydrogen gas is always
present in the vicinity of the battery.
Keep all sparks and flames away
from the battery.
• Do not allow battery fluid to come
into contact with eyes, skin, clothing
or painted surfaces. Battery fluid is a
corrosive sulfuric acid solution which
can cause severe burns. If the fluid
should come into contact with any-
thing, immediately flush the con-
tacted area with water.
• Keep battery out of the reach of
children.
• The booster battery must be rated at
12 volts. Use of an improperly rated
battery can damage your vehicle.
JUMP STARTING

•Whenever working on or near a bat-
tery, always wear suitable eye pro-
tectors (for example, goggles or in-
dustrial safety spectacles) and
remove rings, metal bands, or any
other jewelry. Do not lean over the
battery when jump starting.
• Do not attempt to jump start a frozen
battery. It could explode and cause
serious injury.
• Your vehicle has an automatic engine
cooling fan. It could come on at any
time. Keep hands and other objects
away from it.
WARNING
Always follow the instructions below.
Failure to do so could result in damage
to the charging system and cause per-
sonal injury.
1. If the booster battery is in another ve- hicle, position the two vehicles to bring
their batteries near each other.
Do not allow the two vehicles to touch. 2. Apply the parking brake. Push the park
button to shif t to the P (Park) position.
Switch off all unnecessary electrical sys-
tems (lights, heater, air conditioner, etc.).
3. Place the ignition switch to the LOCK or OFF position.
4. Connect the jumper cables in the se- quence illustrated (
OA,OB,OC,OD).

CAUTION
• Always connect positive (+) to posi-
tive (+) and negative (−) to body
ground (for example, strut mounting
bolt, engine lif t bracket, etc.) — not to
the battery.
• Make sure the jumper cables do not
touch moving parts in the engine
compartment and that the cable
clamps do not contact any other
metal.
5. Start the engine of the booster vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
6. Keep the engine speed of the booster vehicle at about 2,000 rpm and start the
engine of the vehicle being jump
started.
CAUTION
Do not keep the starter motor engaged
for more than 10 seconds. If the engine
does not start right away, place the ig-
nition switch in the OFF position and
wait 3 to 4 seconds before trying again.
7. Af ter starting the engine, carefully dis- connect the negative cable and then the
positive cable.
CAUTION
Automatic transmission models can-
not be push-started. Attempting to do
so may cause transmission damage.WARNING
• Do not continue to drive if your ve-
hicle overheats. Doing so could cause
engine damage or a vehicle fire.
• To avoid the danger of being scalded,
never remove the radiator or coolant
reservoir cap while the engine is still
hot. When the radiator or coolant res-
ervoir cap is removed, pressurized
hot water will spurt out, possibly
causing serious injury.
• Do not open the hood if steam is
coming out.
If your vehicle is overheating (indicated by
an extremely high temperature gauge
reading and the Low Oil Pressure: See
Owner’s Manual warning message ap-
pears in the vehicle information display), or
if you feel a lack of engine power, detect
abnormal noise, etc. take the following
steps:
1. Move the vehicle safely off the road, ap- ply the parking brake.
2. Push the park button to shif t to the P (Park) position.
Do not stop the engine.
