SAFETY CHAINS

TRAILER BRAKES

Ensure thattrailer brakes areinstalled asrequired by
local regulations. Alsocheck thatallother trailer
equipment conformstolocal regulations.
Always blockthewheels onboth thevehicle andtrailer
when parking. Applythehand brake onthe trailer if
equipped. Parkingonasteep slopeisnot recom-
mended.
If parking onasteep slopeisunavoidable, placethe
shift lever inthe ªPº (Park) position (Continuously
V ariable Transmission model)orthe shift lever inan
appropriate gear(Manual Transmission model),and
turn thefront wheels towards thecurb.
TRAILER DETECTION (ifequipped)

electrical kitand theturn signal switch isused, the
electrical systemofthe vehicle willdetect the

For models with17-inch tire,tires marked with
directional indicatorscanonly berotated between
front andrear. Make surethatthedirectional indicators
point inthe direction ofwheel rotation afterthetire
rotation iscompleted.
WARNING:
. After rotating thetires, adjust thetire
pressure.
. Retighten thewheel nutswhen thevehicle
has been driven for1,000 km(600 miles)
(also incases ofaflat tire, etc.).
. Donot include thespare tireintire rotation.
. Incorrect tireselection, fitting,care,or
maintenance canaffect vehicle safetywith
risk ofaccident andinjury. Ifin doubt,
consult aNISSAN dealerorthe tire manu-
facturer.

cracking, bulgingorobjects caughtinthe tread. If
excessive wear,cracks, bulging ordeep cutsare
found, thetireshould bereplaced immediately .
The original tireshave abuilt-in treadwearindicator.
When thewear indicator isvisible, thetireshould be
replaced.
Improper serviceofaspare tiremay result inserious
personal injury.If itis necessary torepair thespare tire,
contact aNISSAN dealer.
TIRE AGE

CHANGING TIRESANDWHEELS

When replacing atire, usethesame size,speed rating
and load carrying capacity asoriginally equipped. (For
recommended typesandsizes oftires andwheels, see
ªTires andwheelsº (P.9-7) .)The useoftires other than
those recommended orthe mixed useoftires of
different brands,construction (bias,bias-belted, or
radial) ,or tread patterns canadversely affecttheride,
braking, handling, groundclearance, body-to-tire
clearance, snowchain clearance, speedometer cali-bration,
headlight aimand bumper height.Someof
these effects maylead toaccidents andcould resultin
serious personal injury.
If the wheels arechanged forany reason, always
replace withwheels whichhavethesame offset
dimension. Wheelsofadifferent offsetcouldcause
early tirewear, possibly degraded vehiclehandling
characteristics and/orinterference withthebrake
discs/drums. Suchinterference canlead todecreased
braking efficiency and/orearlybrake pad/shoe wear.
WHEEL BALANCE

Unbalanced wheelsmayaffect vehicle handling and
tire life. Even withregular use,wheels cangetoutof
