When theelectric powersteering warninglight
illuminates withtheengine running, thepower assist
to the steering willcease operation butyou willstill
have control ofthe vehicle. Atthis time, greater
steering effortsarerequired tooperate thesteering
wheel, especially insharp turnsandatlow speeds.

. Running theengine withtheengine oil

cause serious damage tothe engine.
. The engine oilpressure warninglightisnot
designed toindicate alow oillevel. Theoil
level should bechecked usingthedipstick.

Intelligent Key system warning light(if

Make surethattheIntelligent Key isinside the
vehicle. .
The light blinks ingreen whentheIntelligent Key
battery isrunning outofpower. Replace the

. The light illuminates inyellow whenitwarns ofa
malfunction withtheelectrical steeringlock
system orthe Intelligent Key system.
If the warning lightilluminates inyellow whilethe
engine isstopped, itmay beimpossible tofree the
steering lockortostart theengine. Ifthe light comes
on while theengine isrunning, youcan drive the
vehicle. However inthese cases, contact aNISSAN

Low fuelwarning light

When thesteering wheelisoperated repeatedly or
continuously whileparking ordriving atavery low
speed, thepower assistforthe steering wheelwillbe
reduced. Thisisto prevent overheating ofthe electric
power steering systemandprotect itfrom getting
damaged. Whilethepower assistisreduced, steering
wheel operation willbecome heavy.When the
temperature ofthe electric powersteering system
goes down, thepower assistlevelwillreturn tonormal.
Avoid repeating suchsteering wheeloperations that
could cause theelectric powersteering systemto
overheat.

vacuum. Ifthe engine stops,youcan stop thevehicle
by depressing thefoot brake pedal. However, greater
foot pressure onthe foot brake pedalwillberequired
to stop thevehicle. Thestopping distancewillbe
longer.
If the engine isnot running oristurned offwhile driving,
the power assisted brakeswillnot function. Braking
will beharder.
WARNING:
Do not coast withtheengine stopped.
For model withBrake Assist: Whenthebrake pedalis
depressed slowlyandfirmly ,you may hear aclicking
noise andfeelaslight pulsation. Thisisnormal and
indicates thattheBrake Assist System isoperating.
Using brakes

. Keep smoking materials, flameandsparks
away fromfuelandthebattery.
. Never connect ordisconnect eitherthe
battery orany transistorized component
connector whiletheignition switchisin the
ªONº position.
. Ongasoline enginemodels withtheMulti-
port Fuel Injection (MFI)system, thefuel
filter andfuel lines should beserviced bya
NISSAN dealerbecause thefuel lines are
under highpressure evenwhen theengine is
turned off.
. Your vehicle isequipped withanautomatic
engine cooling fan.Itmay come onatany
time without warning, evenifthe ignition switch
isin the ªOFFº position andthe
engine isnot running. To avoid injury, always
disconnect thenegative batterycablebefore
working nearthefan.
. Always weareyeprotection wheneveryou
work onyour vehicle.
. Never leavetheengine ortransmission
related component harnessconnector dis-
connected whiletheignition switchisin the
ªONº position.
. Avoid directcontact withused engine oiland
coolant. Improperly disposedengineoil,
engine coolant, and/orothervehicle fluids
can hurt theenvironment. Alwaysconform to
local regulations fordisposal ofvehicle
fluids.
