Anti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)

When theignition switchisin the ªONº position, the
Anti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)warning lightillumi-
nates andthen turns off.This indicates theABS is
operational.
If the ABS warning lightilluminates whiletheengine is
running, orwhile driving, itmay indicate theABS isnot
functioning properly.Have thesystem checked bya
NISSAN dealerpromptly .
If an ABS malfunction occurs,theanti-lock functionis
turned off.The brake system thenoperates normally,
but without anti-lock assistance. (SeeªBrake systemº
(P .5-22) .)
Brake warning light

WARNING:
. Ifthe brake fluidlevel isbelow theminimum
mark onthe brake fluidreservoir, donot
drive thevehicle untilthebrake system has
been checked byaNISSAN dealer.
. Even ifyou judge itto be safe, haveyour
vehicle towedbecause drivingitcould be
dangerous.
. Depressing thebrake pedalwithout the
engine running and/orwithalow brake
fluid level could increase thestopping dis-
tance andrequire greater pedaltravel dis-
tance andeffort.
The brake warning lightindicates theparking brake
system operation, alow brake fluidlevel ofthe brake
system andanAnti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)
malfunction.
Parking brakewarning indicator:

position, thebrake warning lightilluminates. When
the engine isstarted andtheparking brakeisreleased,
the brake warning lightturns off.
If the parking brakeisnot fully released, thebrake
warning lightremains on.Besure thatthebrake
warning lighthasturned offbefore driving. (See

Low brake fluidwarning indicator:

If the brake warning lightilluminates whiletheengine is
running, orwhile driving, andtheparking brakeis
released, itmay indicate thebrake fluidlevel islow .
When thebrake warning lightilluminates whiledriving, stop
thevehicle safelyassoon aspossible. Stopthe
engine andcheck thebrake fluidlevel. Ifthe brake fluid
level isat the minimum mark,addbrake fluidas
necessary .(See ªBrake fluidº(P.8-13) .)
If the brake fluidlevel issufficient, havethebrake
system checked byaNISSAN dealerpromptly .

Charge warning light

charge warning lightilluminates. Afterstarting the
engine, thecharge warning lightturns off.This
indicates thecharging systemisoperational.
If the charge warning lightilluminates whiletheengine
is running, orwhile driving, itmay indicate thecharging
system isnot functioning properlyandmay need
servicing.
When thecharge warning lightilluminates while
driving, stopthevehicle safelyassoon aspossible.
Stop theengine andcheck thealternator belt.Ifthe
alternator beltisloose, broken ormissing, thecharging
system needsrepair. (SeeªDrive beltº(P.8-11) .)
If the alternator beltappears tobe functioning correctly
but thecharge warning lightremains illuminated, have
the charging systemchecked byaNISSAN dealer
promptly .

Air conditioner filter

conditioner filterwhich collects dust.To make surethe
air conditioner heatsdefogs, andventilates efficiently,
replace thefilter inaccordance withthespecified

nance booklet. To replace thefilter, contact aNISSAN
dealer.
The filter should bereplaced ifthe airflow decreases
significantly orifwindows fogupeasily whenoperating
the heater orair conditioner.
