tem switch” in this section and “Electronic
locking rear differential (E-Lock) system” in
the “Starting and driving” section of this
manual.
Front fog light indicator
light (if so equipped)
The front fog light indicator light illumi-
nates when the front fog lights are on. For
additional information, refer to “Fog light
switch” in this section.
Front passenger air bag
status light (if so equipped)
The front passenger air bag status light will
be lit and the passenger front air bag will be
off depending on how the front passenger
seat is being used.
For additional information, refer to “Front
passenger air bag and status light” in the
“Safety — Seats, seat belts and supplemen-
tal restraint system” section of this manual.
High Beam Assist indicator
light (green)
This indicator light illuminates when the
headlights come on while the headlight
switch is in the AUTO position with the high
beams selected. This indicates that the
high beam assist is operational.
For additional information, refer to “Head-
light switch” in this section.
High beam indicator light
(blue)
This blue light comes on when the head-
light high beams are on and goes out when
the low beams are selected.
The high beam indicator light also comes
on when the passing signal is activated.
Hill descent control system
ON indicator light (if so
equipped)
When the ignition switch is placed in the ON
position, this light comes on briefly and
then turns off.
The light comes on when the hill descent
control system is activated. If the hill descent control switch is on and
the indicator light blinks, the system may
be disabled.
You may feel or hear the system working;
this is normal.
If the indicator light does not come on
when the hill descent switch is on, the sys-
tem may not be functioning properly. Have
the system checked. It is recommended
that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this ser-
vice.
For additional information, refer to “Hill de-
scent control system ON indicator light” in
this section and “Hill descent control sys-
tem” in the “Starting and driving” section of
this manual.
Malfunction Indicator Light
(MIL)
If this indicator light comes on steady or
blinks while the engine is running, it may
indicate a potential emission control mal-
function.
If this indicator light comes on steady for 20
seconds and then blinks for 10 seconds
when the engine is not running, it indicates
that the vehicle is not ready for an emission
control system inspection/maintenance
test. For additional information, refer to
Instruments and controls2-19

High Beam Assist
The High Beam Assist system will operate
when the vehicle is driven at speeds of ap-
proximately 25 mph (40 km/h) and above. If
an oncoming vehicle or leading vehicle ap-
pears in front of your vehicle when the
headlight high beam is on, the headlight
will be switched to the low beam automati-
cally.
WARNING
• The High Beam Assist system is a
convenience but it is not a substitute
for safe driving operation. The driver
should remain alert at all times, en-
sure safe driving practices and
switch the high beams and low beam
manually when necessary.
• The high beam or low beam may not
switch automatically under the fol-
lowing conditions. Switch the high
beam and low beam manually.
– During bad weather (rain, fog,
snow, wind, etc.).
– When a light source similar to a
headlight or tail light is in the vi-
cinity of the vehicle. –
When the headlights of the on-
coming vehicle or the leading ve-
hicle are turned off, when the color
of the light is affected due to for-
eign materials on the lights, or
when the light beam is out of
position.
– When there is a sudden, continu-
ous change in brightness.
– When driving on a road that
passes over rolling hills, or a road
that has level differences.
– When driving on a road with many
curves.
– When a sign or mirror-like surface
is reflecting intense light towards
the front of the vehicle.
– When the container, etc. being
towed by a leading vehicle is re-
flecting intense light.
– When a headlight on your vehicle
is damaged or dirty.
– When the vehicle is leaning at an
angle due to a punctured tire, be-
ing towed, etc. •
The timing of switching the low
beam and high beam may change
under the following situations.
– The brightness of the headlights
of the oncoming vehicle or leading
vehicle.
– The movement and direction of
the oncoming vehicle and the
leading vehicle.
– When only one light on the on-
coming vehicle or the leading ve-
hicle is illuminated.
– When the oncoming vehicle or the
leading vehicle is a two-wheeled
vehicle.
– Road conditions (incline, curve,
the road surface, etc.).
– The number of passengers and
the amount of luggage.

due to an accident, it is recommended that
you visit a NISSAN dealer.
Battery saver system
If the ignition switch is placed in the OFF
position while the headlight switch is in the
orposition, the headlights will
turn off af ter a period of time.
Af ter the headlights automatically turn off
with the headlight switch in the
orposition, the headlights will illuminate
again if the headlight switch is moved to
the OFF position and then turned to the
orposition.
CAUTION
Even though the battery saver feature
automatically turns off the headlights
af ter a period of time, you should turn
the headlight switch to the OFF posi-
tion when the engine is not running to
avoid discharging the vehicle battery.
Manual headlight aiming control
(if so equipped)
Depending on the number of occupants in
the vehicle and the load it is carrying, the
headlight axis may be higher than desired.
If the vehicle is traveling on a hilly road, the
headlights may directly hit the rearview
mirror of the vehicle ahead or the wind-
shield of the oncoming vehicle. The light
axis can be lowered with the operation of
the switch.
The larger the number designated on the
switch, the lower the axis. When traveling without a heavy load or on a
flat road, select position 0.
Select the switch position by referring to
the following sample.
