The vehicle maybemoved, bypushing, tothe desired
location.
If the shift lever cannot bemoved outofthe ªPº (Park)

High fluidtemperature protectionmode
T32A1308 27-808BD 7D2-9BE0-4 70E-A660-24 B385D4FB8A
This transmission hasahigh fluidtemperature protec-
tion mode. Ifthe fluid temperature becomestoohigh
(for example, whenclimbing steepgrades inhigh
temperature withheavy loads),engine powerand,
under someconditions, vehiclespeedwillbede-
creased automatically toreduce thechance of
transmission damage.Vehicle speed canbecontrolled with
theaccelerator pedal,butengine andvehicle
speed maybelimited.
Fail-safe
T32A1308 27-5877C8 5B-EA11-4DD 6-9D52-6992317A74D 5
When thefail-safe operation occurs,theCVT willnot
be shifted tothe selected drivingposition.
If the vehicle isdriven underextreme conditions,
such asexcessive wheelspinning andsubse-
quent hardbraking, thefail-safe systemmaybe
activated. Thiswilloccur evenifall electrical
circuits arefunctioning properly.Inthis case,
turn theignition switchoffand wait for10
seconds. Thenplace theignition switchbackin
the ªONº position. Thevehicle shouldreturnto
its normal operating condition. Ifitdoes not
return toits normal operating condition, havea
NISSAN dealercheckthetransmission and
repair itifnecessary.
WARNING:
When thefail-safe operation occurs,vehicle
speed maybegradually reduced.Thereduced
speed maybelower thanother traffic,which
could increase thechance ofacollision. Be
especially carefulwhendriving. Ifnecessary, pull
to the side ofthe road atasafe place andallow
the transmission toreturn tonormal operation,
or have itrepaired ifnecessary.

The cruise control allowsdriving atspeeds above40
km/h (25MPH) without keeping yourfootonthe
accelerator pedal.
For gasoline enginemodels, thecruise control will
automatically becanceled ifthe vehicle slowsdown
more thanapproximately 13km/h (8MPH) below the
set speed.
For diesel engine models, thecruise control will
automatically becanceled ifthe vehicle speedslows
to less than approximately 35km/h (22MPH) .
Moving theshift lever tothe ªNº (Neutral) positionwill
cancel andtheCRUISE indicator willoff.
T urning oncruise control

Depress theaccelerator pedaltoaccelerate. After
releasing theaccelerator pedal,thevehicle willreturn
to the previously setspeed.
The vehicle maynotmaintain thesetspeed when
going upordown steep hills.Insuch cases, drive
without thecruise control. Resetting
toslower speed:
GUID-2201 8305-9BAB- 4201-B6FC-C08EB94AEAE0
Use anyone ofthe following methodstoreset toa
slower speed.
. Lightly tapthefoot brake pedal. When thevehicle
reaches thedesired speed,pushandrelease the
COAST/SET switch.
. Push andhold theCOAST/SET switch.Whenthe
vehicle reaches thedesired speed,release the
COAST/SET switch.
. Quickly pushandrelease theCOAST/SET switch.
This willreduce thevehicle speedbyabout 1km/h
or 1MPH.
Resetting tofaster speed:
GUID-2201 8305-9BAB- 4201-B6FC-C08EB94AEAE0
Use anyone ofthe following methodstoreset toa
faster speed.
. Depress theaccelerator pedal.Whenthevehicle
reaches thedesired speed,pushandrelease the
